Towards Diverse and Consistent Typography Generation
In this work, we consider the typography generation task that aims at
producing diverse typographic styling for the given graphic document. We
formulate typography generation as a fine-grained attribute generation for
multiple text elements and build an autoregressive model to generate diverse
typography that matches the input design context. We further propose a simple
yet effective sampling approach that respects the consistency and distinction
principle of typography so that generated examples share consistent typographic
styling across text elements. Our empirical study shows that our model
successfully generates diverse typographic designs while preserving a
consistent typographic structure

A new cosmic ray observation at Syowa Station in the antarctic
A set of Cosmic Ray detectors was newly installed in Syowa Station, in the Antarctic, to observe CR neutrons and muons simultaneously at the same location. The observing system has started working in February 2018 and is in stable operation with a high operation rate, >90%. We describe the new systems and show its stability
Perioperative Evaluation of Respiratory Muscle Strength after Scoliosis Correction in Patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Study DesignRetrospective cohort study.PurposeTo investigate the effect of spinal correction on respiratory muscle strength in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).Overview of LiteratureSeveral studies have reported that scoliosis correction in patients with DMD does not improve pulmonary function. In these studies, pulmonary function was evaluated using the traditional spirometric values of percent vital capacity (%VC) and percent forced vital capacity (%FVC). However, traditional spirometry may not be suitable for patients with DMD because the results can be influenced by patient fatigue or level of understanding. Therefore, we evaluated respiratory function focusing on respiratory muscle strength using maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), and sniff nasal inspiratory pressure (SNIP), in addition to %VC and %FVC.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed 16 patients with DMD who underwent spinal correction surgery between 2006 and 2011 at Kitasato University Hospital. All patients were males, and the mean age was 13.5 years. Respiratory muscle strength was evaluated using MIP, MEP, and SNIP. Measurements were obtained preoperatively and at 1 and 6 months postoperatively, and %VC and %FVC were obtained preoperatively and within 6 months postoperatively.ResultsThe mean preoperative and postoperative %VC values were 54.0% and 51.7%, whereas the mean %FVC values were 53.9% and 53.2%, respectively. The mean MIP, MEP, and SNIP values obtained preoperatively and at 1 and 6 months postoperatively were as follows: MIP, 40.5, 42.7 and 47.2 cm H2O; MEP, 26.0, 28.0, and 29.0 cm H2O; and SNIP, 33.4, 33.0, and 33.0 cm H2O; respectively. The mean MIP and MEP values significantly improved postoperatively. There were no significant differences in SNIP, %VC, or %FVC preand postoperatively.ConclusionsBy focusing on respiratory muscle strength, our results suggest that scoliosis correction in patients with DMD might have a favorable effect on respiratory function
Observations of hard X-rays of auroral origin with Polar Patrol Balloons No. 8 and 10
In the Polar Patrol Balloon (PPB) project, two balloons named PPB-8 and -10 were launched in rapid succession to form a cluster of balloons during their flight on January 13, 2003, from Syowa Station, Antarctica. In order to make the two-dimensional images for auroral X-rays and to obtain the energy spectra of auroras with energy range from 30 keV to 778 keV, the same instruments for hard X-rays were installed on PPB-8 and -10, respectively. These detection systems observed several auroral X-ray events during the flight. In particularly on January 25, 2003, strong auroral events were detected at about 0919 UT by PPB-10 and at 0927 UT by PPB-8. The aurora observed by PPB-10 was observed after about 8 min by PPB-8 located a 650 km west of PPB-10. The energy spectra of the bright aurora at 0919 UT and 0927 UT for PPB-10 and -8 is obtained as E0 = (78+-5) keV and (70+-5) keV, respectively

Case report: Laparoscopic gastrojejunostomy for duodenal atresia with situs inversus and preduodenal portal vein: a report of two cases
Congenital duodenal atresia with situs inversus is occasionally accompanied by a preduodenal portal vein (PDPV), which is incidentally diagnosed during surgery. Duodenoduodenostomy is the most common and effective treatment. However, some patients require other anastomoses. Here, we present two cases of laparoscopic gastrojejunostomy for congenital duodenal atresia with situs inversus and PDPV and describe the reason for selecting gastrojejunostomy. The optimal surgical strategy is patient specific and should be determined based on the patient's general and physical condition
