Generation of ultrashort electrical pulses with variable pulse widths

Previous methods used to generate ultrashort electrical pulses suffer some limitations. In this article, two pump beams with variable delay were used to generate two step-like electrical transients of opposite sign and then the signs were superimposed. Each beam illuminates specific parts, beam 1 generates a positive step while beam 2 generates a negative spot. Both the widths and amplitudes of the beams were considered. Significant results were obtained

Generation of ultrashort electrical pulses with variable pulse widths

Electrical pulses from 450 fs to 3 ps are generated using coplanar strip lines and coplanar waveguides on SI GaAs substrate. We use two optical pump beams to generate two steplike electrical transients with opposite sign and then superimpose the signals resulting in rectangular shaped pulses. By varying the delay between the two pump beams the pulse width can be adjusted.</p
