The effect of Pressure in Higher Dimensional Quasi-Spherical Gravitational Collapse

    Get PDF
We study gravitational collapse in higher dimensional quasi-spherical Szekeres space-time for matter with anisotropic pressure. Both local and global visibility of central curvature singularity has been studied and it is found that with proper choice of initial data it is possible to show the validity of CCC for six and higher dimensions. Also the role of pressure in the collapsing process has been discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, RevTeX styl

Naked Singularities in Higher Dimensional Szekeres Space-time

In this paper we study the quasi-spherical gravitational collapse of (n+2) dimensional Szekeres space-time. The nature of the central shell focusing singularity so formed is analyzed by studying both the radial null and time-like geodesic originated from it. We follow the approach of Barve et al to analyze the null geodesic and find naked singularity in different situations.Comment: 11 Latex Pages, 4 figures, RevTex styl

Description of a new sand lance species, Bleekeria murtii (Perciformes: Ammodytidae) from India

    Get PDF
A new fish species of the genus Bleekeria was collected by trawl nets off Tuticorin from a depth of 20-30 m. Bleekeria murtii is characterized by 34-39 dorsal rays, 12-16 anal rays, 80-108 lateral line scales, high head length (21.1-23.2 in SL), smaller eye diameter (2.45-5.37 mm) and high body height (8.7-19.7 mm). The species-specific characters, colour pattern and morphometric variations are described in detail

First record of the pelagic stingray Pteroplatytrygon violacea (Boneparte, 1832) (Family: Dasyatidae) from the east coast of India

Pelagic stingray, Pteroplatytrygon violacea, (Boneparte, 1832) was recorded for the first time from the east coast of India. The female specimen measuring 91 cm in TL was collected from the hooks and line landings from Tuticorin on 9th July 2009. The morphometric measurements of the specimen were compared with the specimens previously recorded from west coast of India and from the North Sea. The present specimen agrees with most of the characters of earlier specimens, but variation was observed in the disc width, disc length, eye length, inter-space first gill slits, snout to cloaca length and cloaca to tail length as compared to the paratypes, which may be variations owing to sex-specific differences. The present specimen might have migrated from the populations available in the equator, along with the monsoon currents

Collapse Dynamics of a Star of Dark Matter and Dark Energy

    Get PDF
In this work, we study the collapse dynamics of an inhomogeneous spherically symmetric star made of dark matter (DM) and dark energy (DE). The dark matter is taken in the form of a dust cloud while anisotropic fluid is chosen as the candidate for dark energy. It is investigated how dark energy modifies the collapsing process and is examined whether dark energy has any effect on the Cosmic Censorship Conjecture. The collapsing star is assumed to be of finite radius and the space time is divided into three distinct regions ╬г\Sigma and V┬▒V^{\pm}, where ╬г\Sigma represents the boundary of the star and VтИТ(V+)V^{-}(V^{+}) denotes the interior (exterior) of the star. The junction conditions for matching V┬▒V^{\pm} over ╬г\Sigma are specified. Role of Dark energy in the formation of apparent horizon is studied and central singularity is analyzed.Comment: 13 page

New Record of Satyrichthys milleri Kawai, 2013 (Peristediidae) From Gulf of Mannar, Bay of Bengal

A specimen of Satyrichthys milleri Kawai, 2013 with the standard length of 221 mm was collected from Tuticorin fishing harbour, south east coast of India on 23rd October 2014. It was collected by bottom trawlers at a depth ranges from 200-250 m. This is the first attempt to provide a detailed description of the species from the Gulf of Mannar. This record was compared with the first reported specimen in order to compare the external morphology with known specimen. The present study constitutes an extension of the known distributional range of this species from the Andaman to the Gulf of Mannar

Background: The present report is the first record of the Pyramodon lindas (Markle and Olney, Bull Mar Sci 47: 269-410, 1990) from India waters. A specimen of Pyramodon lindas measuring 483 mm total length was obtained from Tuticorin of Gulf of Mannar which is the largest specimen of so far recorded. Results: The Pyramodon lindas measured 483 mm in TL, 85 mm in Head length, 18.1 mm in snout length. Body elongate, compressed to round and eel like, supramaxilla absent, anal fin origin advanced. The specimen was deposited in the National Biodiversity Museum at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi (GB.28.3.3.1) Detailed mophometric and meristic characters described and discussed. Conclusion: The Pyramodon lindas reported in the present study makes the total species reported from India as four in family Carapidae. The other reports were Carapus homei (Richardson, 1846), Pyramodon punctatum (Regan, 1914), Carapus margaritiferae (Rendahl, 1921) Brotula multibarbata Temmink & Schlegel, 1846 Antennarius hispidus (Bloch & Schneider, 1801)
