Inelastic Cross Sections for Proton - Nucleus Collisions at 205-GeV/c in Nuclear Emulsion

A stack of the nuclear emulsion was exposed to the 205 GeV/c proton beam at NAL. By along-the-track scanning of 1060 m, 2963 inelastic proton-nucleus collisions are obtained. The cross section for the inelastic interaction, its mass number dependence and the cross section for the coherent production are studied

Phenomenological study of 200 and 500 GeV/c proton-proton collisions in emulsion

We propose to expose two stacks of nuclear emulsion to the 200 and 500 GeV/c protons. In these stacks, the following properties are examined: (1) energy dependence of total, elastic, and inelastic cross sections, (2) contribution of diffraction dissociation, (3) energy dependence of mean multiplicity, (4) character of multiplicity distribution, (5) behaviors of backwards particles for which momenta and masses are determined

Higgs searches at the Tevatron

We present the latest results on searches for the standard and beyond-the-standard model Higgs bosons in proton-antiproton collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV by the CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron. No significant excess is observed above the expected background, and the cross section limits for the Higgs bosons are calculated. It is noticed that the standard model Higgs boson in the mass range 163-166 GeV/c{sup 2} is excluded at the 95% C.L

NUCLEAR INTERACTIONS OF HIGH ENERGY PROTONS IN NUCLEAR EMULSION

Inelastic nuclear interactions in nuclear emulsions exposed to 200, 300 and 400 GeV proton beams are investigated. Dependence of inelastic cross sections on A is discussed. It seems to have been generally accepted that N{sub h}-distribution has little dependence on incident energies, but it is shown that the fraction of events without heavily ionizing tracks (N{sub h}=0) increases appreciably with increasing primary energies. Classifying events by number of heavily ionizing particles, the pseudo-rapidity distributions are studied, and the number of shower particles at higher rapidity region is less in central collisions with heavy nuclei compared to that in collisions with small N{sub h}
