Underground Farm Petroleum Storage Tanks
Protection of farmstead water supplies is a topic which should be a prime concern of every rural landowner. Contamination of underground and surface water supplies by pesticides, fertilizers and petroleum products is a real and present hazard of modern agricultural operations. Contaminated soil and water sources can result in immediate, obvious losses such as unhealthy livestock and the need to develop alternative water sources, and long term losses such as reduced land values
Advanced composites: Environmental effects on selected resin matrix materials
The effects that expected space flight environment has upon the mechanical properties of epoxy and polyimide matrix composites were analyzed. Environmental phenomena covered water immersion, high temperature aging, humidity, lightning strike, galvanic action, electromagnetic interference, thermal shock, rain and sand erosion, and thermal/vacuum outgassing. The technology state-of-the-art for graphite and boron reinforced epoxy and polyimide matrix materials is summarized to determine the relative merit of using composites in the space shuttle program. Resin matrix composites generally are affected to some degree by natural environmental phenomena with polyimide resin matrix materials less affected than epoxies
Parameterised Multiparty Session Types
For many application-level distributed protocols and parallel algorithms, the
set of participants, the number of messages or the interaction structure are
only known at run-time. This paper proposes a dependent type theory for
multiparty sessions which can statically guarantee type-safe, deadlock-free
multiparty interactions among processes whose specifications are parameterised
by indices. We use the primitive recursion operator from G\"odel's System T to
express a wide range of communication patterns while keeping type checking
decidable. To type individual distributed processes, a parameterised global
type is projected onto a generic generator which represents a class of all
possible end-point types. We prove the termination of the type-checking
algorithm in the full system with both multiparty session types and recursive
types. We illustrate our type theory through non-trivial programming and
verification examples taken from parallel algorithms and Web services usecases.Comment: LMCS 201

A Primary Ecological Survey of Dardanelle Reservoir Prior to Nuclear Facility Effluent Discharge
A preliminary ecological survey of Dardanelle Reservoir during the construction phase of Arkansas Power and Light Company\u27s nuclear generating facility was conducted from January 1970 through June 1974. The reservoir is characterized by relatively shallow depths and a high flow-thru rate. A number of features were associated with these characteristics. The reservoir carried a great deal of suspended material and exhibited high turbidities throughout most of the year. Typical thermal stratification and oxygen depletion were only rarely observed. Many of the physico-chemical parameters exhibited relatively high values in comparison to other Arkansas lakes and reservoirs, but due to absence of prolonged periods of stratification and stagnation, they did not undergo the extreme fluctuations sometimes observed in other reservoirs. Plankton and benthic samples were collected at least nine times per year from ten stations. These stations were selected to include both shallow and deep locations and to include points both within and outside the projected area of thermal influence when the plant became operational. There were a great variety of forms in the phytoplankton with the diatoms making up a considerable portion. The level of turbidity appeared to dampen somewhat the extreme fluctuations sometimes found in bloom periods. In the zooplankton the rotifers Brachionus, Keratella, and Polyarthra predominated followed by the microcrustaceans Cyclops and Bosmina. Both the plankton and the benthic fauna showed great seasonal variation. The benthic fauna consisted primarily of Chironomidae, Oligochaeta, and Hexagenia with the Chironomidae predominating in the shallower depths and the Oligochaeta exhibiting increased abundance and importance in the deeper stations
