Proteinis an important source in human and animal nutrition. Approximately 70% of theworld's protein requirement is provided from plant sources, while this rate canreach up to 90% in undeveloped and developing countries. Faba beans are rich inphosphorus and iron as well as high protein content. However, geneticcharacterization studies in faba bean are minimal. In this study, the geneticcharacterization of a total 10 accessions faba bean (Vicia faba L.)species was investigated using SSR markers. A total of 6 SSR markers were used. The polymorphism information content (PIC) average value was 0,69. Very highsimilarities were found between some cultivars within the same species. Thissimilarity may be due to the narrow structure of the faba bean genome or theinability of the SSR markers used. The results reported here will becontributed to future germplasm management efforts and for comparative studiesin faba bean.</p
