Simulation Study of Microwave Imaging for Brain Disease Diagnostic

    Get PDF
Brain tumour result by abnormal growth and division of cell inside the skull show high potential to become malignancies and lead to brain damage or even death. Early detection is crucial for further treatment to increase the survival rate of patients who have brain cancer. Existing clinical imaging possess limitation as they are costly, time-consuming and some of them depend on ionising radiation. The microwave imaging has emerged as the new preliminary diagnosis method as it is portable, non-ionising, low cost, and able to produce a good spatial resolution. This paper will be discussing the microwave head based sensing and imaging techniques for brain tumour diagnosis. The 2D FEM approach is applied to solve the forward problem, and the image is reconstructed by implementing linear back projection. Eight rectangular sensing electrodes are arranged in an elliptical array around the head phantom. When one electrode is transmitting the microwave, the remaining of the electrode served as the receiver. The different tumour position is simulated to test the reliability of the system. Lastly, the system is able to detect the tumour, and 1 GHz is chosen as the best frequency based on the simulation and image reconstructed

A review of non-invasive imaging: the opportunity of magnetic induction tomography modality in agarwood industry

The needs for non-invasive technique in agarwood industry could enhance and preserve the future of this industry in Malaysia as well as in most of the Asia countries. Normally karas tree which produces agarwood needs at least more than ten years to yield a matured agarwood resin. Thus cutting down the immature trees without pre-assessment on the agarwood content would become a waste of resources. This paper discusses the NDE techniques in wood industry which has the potential to be applied in karas tree for pre-assessment of agarwood volume embedded inside the trees. Finally future research in agarwood imaging using Magnetic Induction Tomography modality is addressed

Route Planning Analysis In Holes Drilling Process Using Magnetic Optimization Algorithm For Electronic Manufacturing Sector

    Get PDF
Electronic manufacturing sector uses computer numerical controlled machines for drilling holes. Most of the computer numerical controlled machines used nearest neighbour algorithm to plan the route for the drill bit to travel. Based on this motivation, this paper proposes an approach which is based on the experimentation of Magnetic Optimization Algorithm. In this implementation, each magnetic agent or particle in Magnetic Optimization Algorithm represents a candidate solution of the problem. The magnitude of the magnetic force between these particles is inversely proportional to the distance calculated by the solution they represented. Particles with greater magnetic force will attract other particles with relatively smaller magnetic force, towards it. The process is repeated until the stopping condition meets and the solution with lowest distance is taken as the best-found solution. Result obtained from the case study shows that the proposed approach managed to find the optimal solution. With this method, electronics manufacturing sector can optimize the drilling process hence will increase the productivity of the manufacturer. This study can be extended further by tuning the parameters of MOA in order to enhance the drilling route process

Capacitance tomography technique for imaging mixture oil and water

Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) sensor is non-invasive device that used the Electrical Capacitance Tomography Techniques which is non - intrusive technique to measure the concentration of flow inside the pipeline. By develop 12 ECT sensors with MATLAB programming software, the distribution of fluids inside pipeline or vessel can be visualized easily. By design a simple 12 ECT sensor with portable electrodes may reduce the difficulties on sensor construction and configuration. Perhaps that, this project can give some idea to anyone out there to develop better ECT system in practice. This system also can be used to investigate volume ratio of mixture oil and water particularly in horizontal-stratified distribution inside a flowing pipeline. Data from hardware system can be computed using MATLAB software in order to visualize the cross-section image of pipeline. Linear Back projection algorithm is taken in to account as a projection method use in this project
