Fast degradation of dyes in water using manganese-oxide-coated diatomite for environmental remediation

    Get PDF
By a simple wet-chemical procedure using a permanganate in the acidic medium, diatomite coated with amorphous manganese oxide nanoparticles was synthesized. The structural, microstructural and morphological characterizations of the as-synthesized catalysts confirmed the nanostructure of MnO2 and its stabilization on the support - diatomite. The highly efficient and rapid degradation of methylene blue and methyl orange over synthesized MnO2 coated Diatomite has been carried out. The results revealed considerably faster degradation of the dyes against the previously reported data. The proposed mechanism of the dye-degradation is considered to be a combinatorial effect of chemical, physicochemical and physical processes. Therefore, the fabricated catalysts have potential application in waste water treatment, and pollution degradation for environmental remediation

How heterogeneous are the determinants of total factor productivity in manufacturing sectors? Panel-data evidence from vietnam

    Get PDF
One of the remaining challenges in explaining differences in total factor productivity is heterogeneity between sectors and within a specific sector in terms of labor and capital. This paper employs the generalized method of moments (GMM) to identify factors that affect total factor productivity across 21 manufacturing sectors and to clarify the heterogeneous determinants of total factor productivity within manufacturing sectors for the period 2010–2015. Our estimations show that large firms have significantly greater total factor productivity levels than small firms in some fragmentations of firms in terms of both labor and total capital and in some manufacturing sectors. It is suggested that firm characteristics should be considered by the government in establishing relevant policies for enhancing firm productivity

Mobility Enhancement in Square Quantum Wells: Symmetric Modulation of the Envelop Wave Function

    Get PDF
We present a theoretical study of the effects from symmetric modulation of the envelop wave function on quantum transport in square quantum wells (QWs). Within the variational approach we obtain analytic expressions for the carrier distribution and their scattering in symmetric two-side doped square QWs. Roughness-induced scattering are found significantly weaker than those in the asymmetric one-side doped counterpart. Thus, we propose symmetric modulation of the wave function as an efficient method for enhancement of the roughness-limited QW mobility. Our theory is able to well reproduce the recent experimental data about low-temperature transport of electrons and holes in two-side doped square QWs, e.g., the mobility dependence on the channel width, which have not been explained so far

The Channel-width Dependence of the Low-temperature Hole Mobility in Ge-rich Narrow Square Quantum Well Studied by the Band-bending Method

    Get PDF
We employ the theory of band-bending effects to explain the channel-width dependence of the mobility of a two-dimentional hole gas (2DHG) in narrow square Si/Si1x_{1-x}Gex_x/Si quantum well at high Ge content. The numerical calculation of scattering mechanisms is shown in comparison with the ones from the previous computations. Our method enables a better quantitative description of recently measured data about the dependence of the 8 K mobility of holes in a Si/Si0.2_{0.2}Ge0.8_{0.8}/Si quantum well on the channel width varying from 25 - 70

The exploration for grain legumes was conducted in collaboration with Vietnamese goverment from February 24 to March 23, 1994. The intinerary, route and locality of exploration are shown Table 1 and Fig. 1. We visited East-North area, Central-South Plateau area and Central-South Coast area to collect local varieties which are in danger of disappearing. We collected a total of 163 samples, which consists of 160 local varieties and 3 wild species. The number of each species is as follows, 41 samples of Glycine max, 43 samples of Vigna unguiculata, 40 samples of Vigna radiata, 6 samples of Vigna umbellata, 2 samples of Vigna glabrescens, 21 samples of Arachis hypogaea, 5 samples of Lablab purpureus, 2 samples of Phaseolus lunatus, 1 sample of Phaseolus vulgaris, 1 sample of Cajanus sajan and another legume. These legmues are cultivated mostly in rainy season and used in daily life for food and feed. The different characters of samples are exhibited in seed color, cotyledon color, seed size, number of seed, pod type and growing period

We describe a new species of the genus Cyrtodactylus based on five adult specimens from Bac Ha District, Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam. Cyrtodactylus luci sp. nov. is distinguished from the remaining Indochinese bent-toed geckos by a combination of the following morphological characteristics: medium size (SVL up to 89.5 mm); dorsal tubercles in 17–19 irregular transverse rows; ventral scales in 32–34 longitudinal rows at midbody; precloacal pores present in both sexes, 9 or 10 in males, 8 or 9 in females; 12–15 enlarged femoral scales on each thigh; femoral pores 9–12 in males, 5–10 in females; postcloacal tubercles 2–4; lamellae under toe IV 21–23; dorsal pattern consisting of 5 or 6 irregular dark bands, a thin neckband without V-shape or triangle shape in the middle, top of head with dark brown blotches; subcaudal scales transversely enlarged. Molecular phylogenetic analyses recovered the new species as the sister taxon to C. gulinqingensis from Yunnan Province, China, with strong support from all analyses and the two taxa are separated by approximately 8.87–9.22% genetic divergence based on a fragment of the mitochondrial ND2 gene. This is the first representative of Cyrtodactylus known from Lao Cai Province

All-dielectric Metamaterial for Electromagnetically-induced Transparency in Optical Region

    Get PDF
Metamaterial (MM) is emerging as a promising approach to manipulate electromagnetic waves, spanning from radio frequency to the optical region. In this paper, we employ an effect called electromagnetically-induced transparency (EIT) in all-dielectric MM structures to create a narrow transparent window in opaque broadband of the optical region (580-670 nm). Using dielectric materials instead of metals can mitigate the large non-radiative ohmic loss on the metal surface. The unit-cell of MM consists of Silicon (Si) bars on Silicon dioxide (SiO2_{2}) substrate, in which two bars are directed horizontally and one bar is directed vertically. By changing the relative position and dimension of the Si bars, the EIT effect could be achieved. The optical properties of the proposed MM are investigated numerically using the finite difference method with commercial software Computer Simulation Technology (CST). Then, characteristic parameters of MM exhibiting EIT effect (EIT-MM), including Q-factor, group delay, are calculated to evaluate the applicability of EIT-MM to sensing and light confinement

Applied bioinformatics tools for analysis of Microrna-214 expression and prediction of its potential targets genes in Nasopharyngeal carcinoma

    Get PDF
miRNA (microRNA) are short RNA molecules in length from 20 to 24 nucleotides that have been shown to play an important role in regulating gene expression in many different types of human cancer. Meanwhile, miRNA-214 is one of the known miRNAs involved in the formation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) through overexpression that promotes proliferation and development of cancer cells. However, in Vietnam, the study of miR-214 related to NPC has not been conducted yet. With the aims to develop the further studies of miR-214 on NPC in Vietnamese patients, in this initial study, we conducted the analysis of miR-214 expression in previous publications, as well as the prediction of miR-214 potential target genes, which involved in many cellular pathways. Here we applied bioinformatics tools to predict miRNAs and their targets, and discuss the role of miR-214 in the context of human cancers. As the results, miR-214 acted as the oncogenic roles in NPC, relevanted to many pathways, such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis and invasion through the its target genes LTF, Bim, Bax, LINC0086, etc. In conclusion, the use of computional approaches facilitate the further experimental validation of miRNAs in general, particularly miR-214, in Vietnamese NPC patients

A potential low cost medium for cultivation of Dunaliella salina DCCBC15 in Vietnam

    Get PDF
Dunaliella salina is a marine alga with high potential for beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A), up to more than 10% of cellular dry weight under appropriate stress conditions of limiting one of the following nutrients: nitrogen, phosphate, high light or high salt. Obtaining high biomass in low cost medium is the essential step of the two-phase culture system for beta-carotene production. For future development of beta-carotene production from Dunaliella in Vietnam, it is our first step to study a low cost medium using natural seawater enriched with industrial fertilizer N-P-K (30-15-10) commercially available in Vietnam. The primary results of biomass, cell density, chlorophyll a as well as growth rate are very promising to use this medium for mass culture of Dunaliella salina. The medium is recommended for growing other marine algae as well
