    Purchasing Power Parity in the 34 OECD Countries: Evidence from Quantile-Based Unit Root Tests with both Smooth and Sharp Breaks

    Conventional unit root tests have mostly failed to validate the PPP. Quantile-based unit root test by previous research have provided some support for the PPP. In this paper we take an additional step and incorporate sharp shifts and smooth breaks into the quantile-based unit root test and re-examine the PPP in each of the 34 OECD countries over the period 1994M01 to 2016M03. We find support for the PPP in 18 countries of Austria, Chile, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom

    Are house prices in South Africa really nonstationary? Evidence from SPSM-based panel KSS test with a Fourier function

    This study applies the sequential panel selection method (SPSM) to investigate the time-series properties of provincial house prices for entire, large, medium and small middle-segments of South Africa. Quarterly time-series data were collected from nine provinces in South Africa for different house-size categories over the period of 1978.Q1 to 2012.Q4. Whereas other panel-based unit-root tests are joint tests of a unit root for all members of a panel and are incapable of determining the mix of integrated of order zero (I(0)) series and integrated of order one (I(1)) series in a panel setting, the SPSM proposed by Chortareas and Kapetanios (2009) can clearly identify how many and which series in the panel are stationary processes by classifying a whole panel into a group of stationary and nonstationary series. The empirical results from several panel-based, as well as standard pure time-series, unit-root tests, indicate that house prices for the nine provinces studied here are either stationary or nonstationary. However, results from the SPSM using the panel version of the Kapetanios et al. (KSS, 2003) test with a Fourier function unequivocally indicate that house prices are stationary for the nine provinces under study.     On the Efficiency of Integrating Self-supervised Learning and Meta-learning for User-defined Few-shot Keyword Spotting

    User-defined keyword spotting is a task to detect new spoken terms defined by users. This can be viewed as a few-shot learning problem since it is unreasonable for users to define their desired keywords by providing many examples. To solve this problem, previous works try to incorporate self-supervised learning models or apply meta-learning algorithms. But it is unclear whether self-supervised learning and meta-learning are complementary and which combination of the two types of approaches is most effective for few-shot keyword discovery. In this work, we systematically study these questions by utilizing various self-supervised learning models and combining them with a wide variety of meta-learning algorithms. Our result shows that HuBERT combined with Matching network achieves the best result and is robust to the changes of few-shot examples.Comment: Submitted to Interspeech 202

    Women with endometriosis have higher comorbidities: Analysis of domestic data in Taiwan

    AbstractEndometriosis, defined by the presence of viable extrauterine endometrial glands and stroma, can grow or bleed cyclically, and possesses characteristics including a destructive, invasive, and metastatic nature. Since endometriosis may result in pelvic inflammation, adhesion, chronic pain, and infertility, and can progress to biologically malignant tumors, it is a long-term major health issue in women of reproductive age. In this review, we analyze the Taiwan domestic research addressing associations between endometriosis and other diseases. Concerning malignant tumors, we identified four studies on the links between endometriosis and ovarian cancer, one on breast cancer, two on endometrial cancer, one on colorectal cancer, and one on other malignancies, as well as one on associations between endometriosis and irritable bowel syndrome, one on links with migraine headache, three on links with pelvic inflammatory diseases, four on links with infertility, four on links with obesity, four on links with chronic liver disease, four on links with rheumatoid arthritis, four on links with chronic renal disease, five on links with diabetes mellitus, and five on links with cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, etc.). The data available to date support that women with endometriosis might be at risk of some chronic illnesses and certain malignancies, although we consider the evidence for some comorbidities to be of low quality, for example, the association between colon cancer and adenomyosis/endometriosis. We still believe that the risk of comorbidity might be higher in women with endometriosis than that we supposed before. More research is needed to determine whether women with endometriosis are really at risk of these comorbidities

    摘要 傳統土地複丈外業是以圖解套圖作業方式完成的,也就是應用平板儀測量現況點於土地複丈圖上,並將之謄繪於透明紙上據以套圖。因此具有法律效力之地籍圖,有時會因地籍圖的伸縮、折縐破損而產生圖、地不符現象,使得一般情況下之複丈成果出現較差精度之成果。 基於此項作業缺失,本研究開出發一套土地複丈外業電腦套圖的程式,並分別針對地籍圖的伸縮、折縐破損狀況,選定甲、乙及丙三個實驗區,以分別代表整幅圖之伸縮、折縐破損及都會地區各街廓間地籍圖之伸縮不一致等三種類型,進而依據TWD97坐標系統控制點測量現況,應用數化成果暨採用電腦套圖軟體辦理土地複丈外業之套圖。藉由本研究研發之電腦圖形介面,除可立即目睹現況點與地籍圖間之相對關係及幾何運算外,同時亦兼具圖解法與數值法複丈之優點,以使土地複丈外業測量技術向前邁進,同時兼顧精度與速度,提昇政府為民服務的效力。Abstract The land revision fieldworks have been completely by using tracing method traditionally. The tracing paper method for land revision usually uses alidade to measure ground points of real situation on the tracing paper. The real situation points registers to the cadastral map, but the location in the shrink and fracture part of the paper make precision getting worse. The cadastral map is authorized by government. In order to make the real situation to fit the cadastral map is the main topic of this study which is to develop a computer program solving the problem of real situation registering to the cadastral map.     Purchasing Power Parity in Transition Countries: Panel Stationary Test with Smooth and Sharp Breaks

    This study examines whether the long-run purchasing power parity (PPP) holds in transition economies (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Russia) using monthly data over the 1995–2011 period. We apply a recently introduced panel stationary test, which accounts for sharp breaks and smooth shifts. The results indicate that the PPP holds only in two countries (i.e., Lithuania and Poland)

    Nexus Between Tourism and House Prices: Quantile-on-Quantile Approaches

    This work aims to examine the relationship between tourism activities and house prices (HP) in first-tier cities (i.e., Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou) of China using a quantile-on-quantile approach. This approach provides an ideal framework with which to capture the overall dependence structure between tourism activities and HP. The empirical results show that there is a positive and negative relationship between tourism and HP for the first-tier cities considered, with substantial variations across cities and across quantiles within each city. Important city-specific policy implications may be drawn from these findings
