Lightweight Image Inpainting by Stripe Window Transformer with Joint Attention to CNN

Image inpainting is an important task in computer vision. As admirable methods are presented, the inpainted image is getting closer to reality. However, the result is still not good enough in the reconstructed texture and structure based on human vision. Although recent advances in computer hardware have enabled the development of larger and more complex models, there is still a need for lightweight models that can be used by individuals and small-sized institutions. Therefore, we propose a lightweight model that combines a specialized transformer with a traditional convolutional neural network (CNN). Furthermore, we have noticed most researchers only consider three primary colors (RGB) in inpainted images, but we think this is not enough. So we propose a new loss function to intensify color details. Extensive experiments on commonly seen datasets (Places2 and CelebA) validate the efficacy of our proposed model compared with other state-of-the-art methods. SummaryObjectiveTo evaluate the demographics, clinical presentations, laboratory findings, and maternal and fetal outcomes in patients with acute fatty liver of pregnancy.Materials and MethodsA retrospective review was conducted of the records of pregnant patients with a diagnosis of acute fatty liver in a tertiary medical center over a 22-year period.ResultsEighteen patients with acute fatty liver of pregnancy were recruited, all of whom developed the disease in the third trimester. Eleven women (61%) were primigravid and four (22%) had twin pregnancies; six (33%) were diagnosed antepartum, and the other 12 (67%) were diagnosed postpartum. There were two maternal deaths (11%) and four fetal deaths (18%). The most common complications apart from severe liver dysfunction were acute renal failure (83%), hypoglycemia (61%), and disseminated intravascular coagulation (61%).ConclusionWomen who become acutely ill during the third trimester of pregnancy should undergo tests for acute fatty liver of pregnancy, including laboratory tests for assessing liver function and coagulation profile

The PSEA promoter element of the Drosophila U1 snRNA gene is sufficient to bring DmSNAPc into contact with 20 base pairs of downstream DNA

Most of the major spliceosomal small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) (i.e. U1, U2, U4 and U5) are synthesized by RNA polymerase II (pol II). In Drosophila melanogaster, the 5′-flanking DNA of these genes contains two conserved elements: the proximal sequence element A (PSEA) and the proximal sequence element B (PSEB). The PSEA is essential for transcription and is recognized by DmSNAPc, a multi-subunit protein complex. Previous site-specific protein–DNA photo-cross-linking assays demonstrated that one of the subunits of DmSNAPc, DmSNAP43, remains in close contact with the DNA for 20 bp beyond the 3′ end of the PSEA, a region that contains the PSEB. The current work demonstrates that mutation of the PSEB does not abolish the cross-linking of DmSNAP43 to the PSEB. Thus the U1 PSEA alone is capable of bringing DmSNAP43 into close contact with this downstream DNA. However, mutation of the PSEB perturbs the cross-linking pattern. In concordance with these findings, PSEB mutations result in a 2- to 4-fold reduction in U1 promoter activity when assayed by transient transfection

A Mathematical Tool for Inference in Logistic Regression with Small-Sized Data Sets: A Practical Application on ISW-Ridge Relationships

The general approach to modeling binary data for the purpose of estimating the propagation of an internal solitary wave (ISW) is based on the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) method. In cases where the number of observations in the data is small, any inferences made based on the asymptotic distribution of changes in the deviance may be unreliable for binary data (the model's lack of fit is described in terms of a quantity known as the deviance). The deviance for the binary data is given by D. Collett (2003). may be unreliable for binary data. Logistic regression shows that the P-values for the likelihood ratio test and the score test are both <0.05. However, the null hypothesis is not rejected in the Wald test. The seeming discrepancies in P-values obtained between the Wald test and the other two tests are a sign that the large-sample approximation is not stable. We find that the parameters and the odds ratio estimates obtained via conditional exact logistic regression are different from those obtained via unconditional asymptotic logistic regression. Using exact results is a good idea when the sample size is small and the approximate P-values are <0.10. Thus in this study exact analysis is more appropriate

Direction controllable linearly polarized laser from a dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal

We demonstrate a direction controllable linearly polarized laser from a dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) in a homogeneous cell coated with a metallic mirror on the inner side of a glass substrate. Due to coherent superposition of two orthogonal polarization states, the output laser light becomes linearly polarized and its output energy is greatly enhanced. Moreover, the linear polarization direction angle is proportional to the product of the CLC effective birefringence and cell gap. Hence direction tunable laser devices can be demonstrated by controlling the cell gap and the operating temperature
