    BIOMECHANICAL STUDY ON DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS FOR RUNNING JUMPS FOCUSED ON THE TAKEOFF PREPARATION

    This study aimed to elucidate the difference in CG parameters from three steps, prejump to takeoff step of the jump motion (running jump), and obtain primary data on takeoff preparation action. Five male jumpers associated with the university track and field department were trained to perform their best at (1) approach run with no takeoff (RUN), (2) jumping as far as possible (long jump [LJ]), and (3) jumping as high as possible (high jump [HJ]), which were recorded using a three-dimensional capture system. As a result, significant differences were observed in not only the takeoff but also the takeoff preparation phase regarding CG parameters, suggesting the need to focus on the takeoff preparation phase as a factor that determines jump direction. Moreover, HJ and LJ suppressed an increase in vertical velocity one step prior, and by takeoff at a lower CG, the athletes allowed for an easier increase in takeoff angle and jump height. However, to resist a decrease in horizontal velocity, LJ transitioned to takeoff in a manner closer to RUN and without changing takeoff preparation as much as that in HJ. Thus, adjusting vertical velocity and height one step before takeoff can influence takeoff angle

    Ubiquilin 2 (UBQLN2), a member of the ubiquitin-like protein family (ubiquilins), maintains protein homeostasis. Although UBQLN2 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, it is also associated with mali­gnant tumors. Therefore, we examined whether UBQLN2 plays a role in human osteosarcoma. The human osteosarcoma cell line MG63 was transfected with UBQLN2 siRNA and cultured under hypoxic conditions. The rat osteosarcoma cell line COS1NR was inoculated into Fischer 344 rats, followed by injection of UBQLN2 siRNA with atelocollagen. An immunohistochemical analysis of UBQLN2 was performed using 34 cases of human high-grade osteosarcomas, and metastasis-free survival was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Silencing of UBQLN2 by siRNA transfection under hypoxia led to activation of JNK and p38, resulting in induction of apoptosis in the osteosarcoma cell line MG63. Injection of UBQLN2 siRNA suppressed tumor growth in the rat osteosarcoma model, followed by apoptosis induction. The immunohistochemical examination revealed that high UBQLN2 expression was significantly associated with the unfavorable metastasis-free survival of osteosarcoma patients. UBQLN2 plays an important role in resistance to hypoxic stress and enhances tumor progression in osteosarcoma.     This study aimed to clarify the role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a component of the cancer microenvironment. We investigated the homing-related chemokine expression levels of MSCs treated with a prostate cancer cell line (PC-3) -conditioned medium. Among several homing chemokines, an antibody array revealed that expression of eotaxin-3 (but not eotxin-1 and -2) was highly enhanced in MSCs treated with PC-3-conditioned medium. A gene expression array showed significantly increased expression of CCR3, a receptor of eotaxin-3, in PC-3. In a matrigel invasion assay, interferon-gamma, a specific inhibitor of eotaxin-related homing, significantly reduced the transmigration of PC-3 cells, under co-cultured condition with MSCs, in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.05). Consistent with these results, anti-CCR3 antibody successfully reduced PC-3 migration under the co-cultured condition.     Hibernoma of the axillary region: a rare benign adipocytic tumor

    Hibernoma is a rare benign tumor considered to arise from remnants of fetal brown adipose tissue. It tends to occur in sites where brown fat persists beyond fetal life, such as the interscapular region, but can occur in sites where brown fat is usually absent in adults. Clinicallywell, hibernomas are slow-growing, asymptomatic tumors. However, unlike lipomas, MRI findings sometimes mislead clinicians to diagnose a malignant neoplasm. We describe a 63-year-old male with an axillary hibernoma involving the brachial neurovascular bundles and mimicking a well-differentiated liposarcoma, from which it should be distinguished

    Undifferentiated Sarcoma of the Salivary Gland in a Mongolian Gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus)

    A subcutaneous mass was found in the lower ventral neck region of a 55-week-old male Mongolian gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus). Histopathologically, the mass involved salivary glands and featured diffuse proliferation of pleomorphic neoplastic cells with large necrotic foci. The lesion was well demarcated from the surrounding tissue, although invasive growth to fibrous septa was occasionally observed. The neoplastic cells were mainly arranged in irregular sheets with severe cellular atypia, round to oval nuclei and varying amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm. Mitotic figures and multinucleated giant cells were frequent. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the neoplastic cells were strongly positive for vimentin and S-100 and negative for NSE, cytokeratin, α-SMA, c-kit, factor VIII, CD34, α-1-antitrypsin, lysozyme and MSR-A. Based on the results, the mass was diagnosed as an undifferentiated sarcoma of the salivary gland. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of such a tumor in Mongolian gerbils

Emphasis is given to a well-established subset ofmethods, specifically robust control techniques based on theH∞concept. A thoroughdescription of how this family of methods can be used for the descent phase of reusablerockets is provided, together with a comparison of the full- and structured-version ofH∞methods.     Development of a Multifunctional Lightweight Membrane with a High Specific Power Generation Capacity

    As a lighter power generation system, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Sakase Adtech Corp. are developing a demonstrator component named “Harvesting Energy with Lightweight Integrated Origami Structure” (HELIOS), which is a deployable lightweight membrane structure. HELIOS has solar arrays on its surface and demonstrates the technology which enables higher specific power generation capacity compared to the conventional solar array panels. The membrane also has communication antennas, showing the potency of lightweight membrane’s multifunctionality such as large data transmitting by 5G antennas and high-resolution observation by interferometer antennas.     Genetic Polymorphisms of IL-17F and TRAF3IP2 Could Be Predictive Factors of the Long-Term Effect of Infliximab against Crohn’s Disease

    Background. We aimed to identify certain genes related to response to infliximab (IFX) and biomarkers to predict the IFX effect for Japanese Crohn\u27s disease (CD) patients by performing an association study of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in candidate genes in the interleukin-(IL-) 17 signaling pathway with response to IFX after 1 year of treatment. Methods. A total of 103 patients were divided into two groups, responders and nonresponders. Twenty-eight tag SNPs in 5 genes were genotyped. The frequencies of alleles and genotypes of each SNP were compared between responders and nonresponders in three different inheritance models. A genetic test was performed using a combination of the associated SNPs as biomarkers. Results. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the four variable factors, concomitant use of immunomodulators, penetrating disease, a G/G genotype of rs766748 in IL-17F, and a C/C or C/A genotype of rs1883136 in TRAF3IP2, independently contributed to response to IFX after 1 year of treatment. Genetic test using the polymorphisms of these genes perfectly predicted the responder and nonresponder CD patients with both concomitant use of immunomodulators and penetrating disease. Conclusion. IL17F and TRAF3IP2 are one of IFX-related genes, useful as biomarkers of IFX response, and may be target molecules for new therapeutic drugs
