Magnetic gap of fe-doped BiSbTe2Se bulk single crystals detected by tunneling spectroscopy and gate-controlled transports

Topological insulators with broken time-reversal symmetry and the Fermi level within the magnetic gap at the Dirac cone provides exotic topological magneto-electronic phenomena. Here, we introduce an improved magnetically doped topological insulator, Fe-doped BiSbTe2Se (Fe-BSTS) bulk single crystal, with an ideal Fermi level. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements revealed that the surface state possesses a Dirac cone with the Dirac point just below the Fermi level by 12 meV. The normalized dI/dV spectra suggest a gap opening with Δmag ~55 meV, resulting in the Fermi level within the opened gap. Ionic-liquid gated-transport measurements also support the Dirac point just below the Fermi level and the presence of the magnetic gap. The chemical potential of the surface state can be fully tuned by ionic-liquid gating, and thus the Fe-doped BSTS provides an ideal platform to investigate exotic quantum topological phenomena.</p

This study aimed to develop a methodology for estimating ionospheric conductance at auroral latitudes using data from a multi-wavelength photometer (427.8, 557.7, and 630.0 nm). An advantage of the approach is that the ionosphere is divided into layers and conductance is computed for each layer. From optical data, the layer conductance was determined by using height-resolved conductivity derived from the European Incoherent Scatter (EISCAT) Tromso UHF radar. The developed method can provide conductance from optical data with some confidence (at least at the same level as previous methods) even after separating the ionosphere into three layers, 95-110 km, 110-170 km, and 170-300 km

Vortex-Induced Alignment of a Water Soluble Supramolecular Nanofiber Composed of an Amphiphilic Dendrimer

We have synthesized a novel amphiphilic naphthalene imide bearing a cationic dendrimer wedge (NID). NID molecules in water self-assemble to form a two-dimensional ribbon, which further coils to give a linear supramolecular nanofiber. The sample solution showed linear dichroism (LD) upon stirring of the solution, where NID nanofibers dominantly align at the center of vortex by hydrodynamic interaction with the downward torsional flows

PurposeTo investigate the potential of colchicine to improve bleb function after trabeculectomy.MethodsTo find the maximum usable colchicine concentration, an ocular irritation study was performed with the Draize test at concentrations of 0.001%, 0.01% and 0.1%. Additionally, the synergistic effect of topical colchicine instillation and MMC application to surgical site was evaluated in a rabbit model by measuring changes after trabeculectomy in intraocular pressure (IOP) and bleb morphology score at 3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, and 49 days.ResultsExperiments with a rabbit model of trabeculectomy showed that 0.04% MMC plus 0.01% colchicine was more effective than saline and 0.04% MMC alone in maintaining IOP reduction at days 7-49 (P ConclusionColchicine may be a promising adjuvant for strengthening the effect of MMC and improving the survival of the filtering bleb in trabeculectomy
