Fluoride Exposure in Michigan Schoolchildren

Recent trends in the prevalence of dental caries in children, as well as a possible increase in the prevalence of dental fluorosis, have prompted some researchers to suggest the reassessment of water fluoride concentration standards. Instead of reducing water fluoride concentrations, an alternative approach would be to limit the use of, or reduce the fluoride concentration of, dentifrices, mouthrinses, and supplements. Information about the use of these other sources of fluoride, however, is scarce. Using data from a 1987 survey of Michigan schoolchildren, exposure to selected fluoride sources as well as tooth brushing habits are described. Responses from questionnaires revealed that, overall, 98.5 percent of the children have used fluoride dentifrices, 27 percent have used topical fluoride rinses, 72.5 percent have had at least one exposure to professionally applied topical fluoride, and 27percent have used dietary fluoride supplements. Although the use of fluoride dietary supplements was appropriate for most children residing in fluoride-deficient Cadillac, the percentages of children in the other communities who have ingested these supplements suggest that these products are being prescribed improperly. Given the almost universal use of fluoride dentifrices at an early age, it may be time to investigate the use of reduced fluoride dentifrices for children. Rancang Bangun Sistem Kontrol Rotor Desikan Untuk Pengondisian Udara Ruang Palka Kapal

Buruknya kualitas penyimpanan ruang muat merupakan salah satu penyebab kurangnya minat penggunaan kapal pelra sabagi darana angkutan dibanding kapal pengangkut muatan lainya. Ini disebabkan karena sistem ventilasi pada kapal pelra tidak dapat menyaingi kualitas sistem ventilasi di kapal lainya. Oleh karena itu kapal pelra memerlukan sistem ventilasi yang lebih baik. Salah satu pilihan yang dapat digunakan adalah dengan menggunakan sistem ventilasi dengan rotor desikan. Tulisan ini dibuat untuk merancang sistem control agar untuk mengatur tingkat kelembabanm relatif yang disediakan dari sistem ventilasi. Mengatur kelembaban relatif dilakukan dengan mengatur kecepatan motor yang memutar rotor desikan. Sistem control yang digunakan berbasis Arduino dengan modul motor drive L298N sebagai actuator. Pada rancangan ini media yang digunakan adalah Bluetooth client yang terhubung melaui aplikasi android yang dibuat melaui platform MIT App Inventor. Data dikirimkan oleh aplikasi dan diolah oleh Arduino sehingga putaran motor dapat diatur. Salain sebagai media control, aplikasi yang dibuat juga menyediakan fitur serial monitor yang menampilakan suhu dan kelembaban pada sistem secara real time.============================================================================================== The poor quality of cargo space storage is one of the reasons for the lack of interest in using traditional vessels as a vehicle for transportation compared to other cargo vessels. This is because the ventilation systems on traditional ships cannot match the quality of the ventilation systems on other ships. Therefore traditional ships require a better ventilation system. One option that can be used is to use a ventilation system with a desiccant rotor. This paper is made to design a control system in order to regulate the relative humidity level provided by the ventilation system. Adjusting the relative humidity is done by adjusting the speed of the motor that rotates the desiccant rotor. The control system used is based on Arduino with the L298N motor drive module as an actuator. In this design, the media used is a Bluetooth client that is connected through an android application made through the MIT App Inventor platform. The data is sent by the application and processed by Arduino so that the motor rotation can be adjusted. Apart from being a media control, the application also provides a serial monitor feature that displays the temperature and humidity on the system in real time
