Competing ideologies of Russia's civil society

Many analysts and public opinion makers in the West conflate the notions of Russia’s non-systemic liberal opposition and the country’s civil society. Indeed, despite garnering the support of a minority of Russia’s population, non-systemic liberal opposition represents a well-organized civic group with a clearly articulated agenda and the ability to take action. Yet, does Russia’s civil society end there? A closer look at the country’s politics shows that Russia has a substantial conservative-traditionalist faction that has also developed agenda for action and formulated opinions. This group is anti-liberal rather than illiberal ideologically and pro-strong state/pro a geopolitically independent Russia rather than pro-Kremlin politically. The interaction between liberal and conservative civic groups represents the battle of meanings, ideas, and ethics, and ultimately determines the future trajectory of Russia’s evolution. Thus, the analysis of Russia’s civil society must represent a rather more nuanced picture than a mere study of the liberal non-systemic opposition. This article will examine the complexity of Russia’s civil society scene with reference to the interplay between the liberal opposition and conservative majority factions. The paper will argue that such complexity stems from ideological value pluralism that falls far beyond the boundaries of the liberal consensus, often skewing our understanding of political practice in Russia

Внутридолевая бронхолегочная секвестрация: пример позднего дебюта редкой врожденной патологии

Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) refers to a rare congenital lung malformation with a nonventilated dysplastic fragment of parenchyma separated from the main bronchial tree. This segment has a systemic blood supply through aberrant arteries and venous outflow into the systemic venous bed or pulmonary veins and has a common with the rest of the lung (intralobar BPS) or an independent (extralobar BPS) visceral pleura. Purpose of the study is to describe an unusual late onset of right-sided intralobar BPS characterized by a pseudopneumonic course in a patient with concomitant anomalies of the thoracic spine and diaphragm; to discuss the issues of formation, manifestation, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, complications, and treatment of intralobar BPS, and to consider its combination with other developmental anomalies. Conclusion. BLS should be considered in patients with an unusual course of pulmonary anomalies, especially localized in the basal segments of the left (more common) or right (less common) lung and characterized by abnormal blood supply and other malformations.

Critical behavior for mixed site-bond directed percolation

We study mixed site-bond directed percolation on 2D and 3D lattices by using time-dependent simulations. Our results are compared with rigorous bounds recently obtained by Liggett and by Katori and Tsukahara. The critical fractions psitecp_{site}^c and pbondcp_{bond}^c of sites and bonds are extremely well approximated by a relationship reported earlier for isotropic percolation, (logpsitec/logpsitec+logpbondc/logpbondc=1)(\log p_{site}^c/\log p_{site}^{c^*}+\log p_{bond}^c/\log p_{bond}^{c^*} = 1) , where psitecp_{site}^{c^*} and pbondcp_{bond}^{c^*} are the critical fractions in pure site and bond directed percolation.Comment: 10 pages, figures available on request from [email protected]

The invasive species of North American origin, Erigeron canadensis L., found throughout the Trans-Siberian Railway has been set as a model object. This species grows directly on the railway track and on the adjacent slopes, therefore, its spreading is likely along the transport corridor, but not repeatedly from settlements located nearby the railwa

A supercritical series analysis for the generalized contact process with diffusion

We study a model that generalizes the CP with diffusion. An additional transition is included in the model so that at a particular point of its phase diagram a crossover from the directed percolation to the compact directed percolation class will happen. We are particularly interested in the effect of diffusion on the properties of the crossover between the universality classes. To address this point, we develop a supercritical series expansion for the ultimate survival probability and analyse this series using d-log Pad\'e and partial differential approximants. We also obtain approximate solutions in the one- and two-site dynamical mean-field approximations. We find evidences that, at variance to what happens in mean-field approximations, the crossover exponent remains close to ϕ=2\phi=2 even for quite high diffusion rates, and therefore the critical line in the neighborhood of the multicritical point apparently does not reproduce the mean-field result (which leads to ϕ=0\phi=0) as the diffusion rate grows without bound
