The Gamification of Modern Dating: A Feminist Analysis

    Get PDF
My project gg is a digitally rendered 360° animation of a tech-filled bedroom, accompanied by a joystick that can be used to navigate the 3D space. A visual comparison between multimedia games and modern dating culture, the bedroom scene draws parallels between the prioritization of male perspectives in fine art and digital media and the social prioritization of “masculine” qualities like logic over emotional vulnerability in the initialization of interpersonal relationships. My project investigates human motivations for playing games, both in the literal and idiomatic sense, using stereotypically feminized colors and symbols, to reclaim the patriarchal world of gaming for individuals who don’t identify with a hetero-masculine technological space

Fresh Croissant, Antique Bisque, Caramel Swirl: An Installation & Fruits Of Labor

Fresh Croissant, Antique Bisque, Caramel Swirl: An Installation When I was six years old I vividly remember asking my mom why my skin was a different color than hers, and without hesitation, she told me people paid money to make their skin look golden brown like mine. She told me to be proud of it. Her words form the backbone to this piece, which aims to embody the experience of growing up in a biracial home, in a home where my mother was white and my father was Filipino. I believe being biracial allows me to experience nuanced perspectives, not quite the majority but not fully a minority, this duality leaves me in a place of limbo. With a color palette derived by using Home Depot’s paint color matching service on an image of my parents and I, my installation emphasizes these predetermined colors and the connection the colors have to the narrowly defined race/ethnic boxes we are supposed to ascribe ourselves. Fruits of labor These photographs were made in 2016, but their meaning was realized just today. A near college graduate, I anxiously await a taste of the fruits of my labor

    Comau Robotic 3-D Tetris

The goal of our project is to build a device (hardware and software) to allow a robotic system to pack a series of unknown objects into a container. The final deliverable uses the camera’s depth stream to generate a point cloud, while segmentation parses this data to create a dimensioned bounding box of the object. The bin packing algorithm uses these dimensions to calculate the object’s ideal placement within the bin, while the graphical user interface displays the placement of each object for system monitoring.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/167250/1/Honors_Capstone-Joseph_Berman.pdfhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/167250/2/Capstone_Final_Report-Joseph_Berman.pdfhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/167250/3/CapstonePresentation-Joseph_Berman.mp
