Measurements of spin rotation parameter A in pion-proton elastic scattering at 1.62 GeV/c
The ITEP-PNPI collaboration presents the results of the measurements of the
spin rotation parameter A in the elastic scattering of positive and negative
pions on protons at P_beam = 1.62 GeV/c. The setup included a
longitudinally-polarized proton target with superconductive magnet, multiwire
spark chambers and a carbon polarimeter with thick filter. Results are compared
to the predictions of partial wave analyses. The experiment was performed at
the ITEP proton synchrotron, Moscow.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. To be published in Phys. Lett.
Membranes with a boundary
We investigate the recently developed theory of multiple membranes. In
particular, we consider open membranes, i.e. the theory defined on a membrane
world volume with a boundary. We first restrict our attention to the gauge
sector of the theory. We obtain a boundary action from the Chern-Simons terms.
Secondly, we consider the addition of certain boundary terms to various
Chern-Simons theories coupled to matter. These terms ensure the full bulk plus
boundary action has the correct amount of supersymmetry. For the ABJM model,
this construction motivates the inclusion of a boundary quartic scalar
potential. The boundary dynamics obtained from our modified theory produce
Basu-Harvey type equations describing membranes ending on a fivebrane. The
ultimate goal of this work is to throw light on the theory of fivebranes using
the theory of open membranes.Comment: 48 pages, Latex, v2 references adde
Conformal geometry of the supercotangent and spinor bundles
We study the actions of local conformal vector fields X∈conf(M,g) on the spinor bundle of (M,g) and on its classical counterpart: the supercotangent bundle M of (M,g). We first deal with the classical framework and determine the Hamiltonian lift of conf(M,g) to M. We then perform the geometric quantization of the supercotangent bundle of (M,g), which constructs the spinor bundle as the quantum representation space. The Kosmann Lie derivative of spinors is btained by quantization of the comoment map.
The quantum and classical actions of conf(M,g) turn, respectively, the space of differential operators acting on spinor densities and the space of their symbols into conf(M,g)-modules. They are filtered and admit a common associated graded module. In the conformally flat case, the latter helps us determine the conformal invariants of both conf(M,g)-modules, in particular the conformally odd powers of the Dirac operator.Peer reviewe
Measurements of the spin rotation parameter A in the elastic pion-proton scattering in the D13(1700) resonance region
The spin rotation parameters and were measured for
the elastic pion-proton scattering by the PNPI-ITEP
collaboration
in the (1700) resonance region. The main goal of the
experimental program is to resolve the current partial-wave
analyses (PWA) uncertainties. Simultaneously with and
the polarization parameter was measured with the purpose to
improve the experimental database and estimate systematic
errors. The constraint which demands a smooth energy dependence
of all transverse amplitude zeros in the complex plane
together with the new experimental data on parameter
can lead to the conclusion that the Barrelet branch of "zero
trajectories" is chosen improperly in PWA of the
Carnegie-Mellon-Lawrence-Berkely-Laboratory groups at the range of the
pion beam momentum near 1.0 GeV/c. The setup included a longitudinally
polarized proton target with
superconductive magnet, multiwire spark chambers and carbon
polarimeter with thick filter. The experiment was performed at the
