Toward Real-time Multi-criteria Decision Making for Bus Service Reliability Optimisation

    Get PDF
This paper addresses issues associated with the real-time control of public transit operations to minimize passenger wait time: namely vehicle headway, maintenance of passenger comfort, and reducing the impact of control strategies. The randomness of passenger arrivals at bus stops and external factors (such as traffic congestion and bad weather) in high frequency transit operations often cause irregular headway that can result in decreased service reliability. The approach proposed in this paper, which has the capability of handling the uncertainty of transit operations based on Multi-objective evolutionary algorithm using a dynamic Bayesian network, applies preventive strategies to forestall bus unreliability and, where unreliability is evident, restore reliability using corrective strategies. Holding , expressing , shortturning and deadheading are the corrective strategies considered in this paper

MINING TOP-K FREQUENT SEQUENTIAL PATTERN IN ITEM INTERVAL EXTENDED SEQUENCE DATABASE

Abstract. Frequent sequential pattern mining in item interval extended sequence database (iSDB) has been one of interesting task in recent years. Unlike classic frequent sequential pattern mining, the pattern mining in iSDB also consider the item interval between successive items; thus, it may extract more meaningful sequential patterns in real life. Most previous frequent sequential pattern mining in iSDB algorithms needs a minimum support threshold (minsup) to perform the mining. However, it’s not easy for users to provide an appropriate threshold in practice. The too high minsup value will lead to missing valuable patterns, while the too low minsup value may generate too many useless patterns. To address this problem, we propose an algorithm: TopKWFP – Top-k weighted frequent sequential pattern mining in item interval extended sequence database. Our algorithm doesn’t need to provide a fixed minsup value, this minsup value will dynamically raise during the mining proces

Mechanical response of outer frames in tuning fork gyroscope model with connecting diamond-shaped frame

    Get PDF
In tuning fork micro-gyroscopes, two outer frames are connected by using the linking elements. The driving vibrations of the two outer frames are required to be exactly opposite to generate the opposite sensing modes perpendicular to driving direction. These opposite driving vibrations are provided by a mechanical structure named the diamond-shaped frame. This paper presents mechanical responses of two outer frames in a proposed model of tuning fork gyroscope when an external force with different types is applied to them. The results show that the presence of a diamond-shaped frame guarantees the absolute anti-phase mode for the driving vibrations of outer frames

A Novel Chebyshev Series Fed Linear Array with High Gain and Low Sidelobe Level for WLAN Outdoor Systems

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a novel high gain and low sidelobe level (SLL) linear microstrip array antenna for outdoor WLAN applications. The antenna consists of two main parts, which are a linear array and a reflector. The linear array comprises of 10 elements; those have been designed on Rogers RT/Duroid 5870tm with the dimensions of 422Ă—100Ă—10.15 mm3. To gain low SLLs, a series fed network was designed to have the output signals being proportional to the Chebyshev distributions (with preset SLL of -30 dB). Furthermore, Yagi antenna theory has been applied by adding directors above every single element to increase the directivity of the single element. The reflector has been constructed at the back of the proposed structure. Simulation results show that the array can provide high gain of 17.5 dBi and a low SLL of -26 dB. A prototype has been fabricated and measured. Good agreements between simulation and measurement data have been obtained

PROVISION CAPACITY OF SERVICE DELIVERY FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN WITH HEARING LOSS IN HAI PHONG, VIETNAM

Objective: Hearing loss is a commonly occurring disability that affects 466 million people worldwide. This study aimed at determining the actual situations of early intervention delivery facilities for children with hearing loss. Out of this affected population, 7% are children (34 million) who, along with their families, grapple with the serious lifelong problems that accompany the disease. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with facilities investigated consisting of a school for the deaf, hospitals, an audiology center, and a social agency in Hai Phong province from January 2013 to December 2014. A sample composed of 353 children was also recruited. Results: The examined facilities suffer from shortcomings in provision capacity, which manifest in deficient materials, supplies and equipment, and human resources; the lack of interdisciplinary coordination of activities; inadequate community awareness; and the unaddressed need for early detection and intervention. The conditions of most of the children (98%) were detected by their families, and among those who were clinically diagnosed, the majority (76.8%) received such diagnosis at central hospitals. Hearing impairment among the children were detected, diagnosed, and subjected to intervention at a very late stage (on average, at ages 22.3, 34, and 32.5 months, respectively), thereby compelling up to 63.6% of the families to struggle with their children’s hearing loss. Conclusion: Solutions to current interventions are needed to enhance service delivery systems and guarantee early detection as well as timely and appropriate treatment

CDIO-based teaching at universities: A case study for students majoring in electrical and electronic engineering technology, Vietnam

    Get PDF
In the 1980s of the twentieth century, universities in developed countries began to realize the growing gap between the capabilities of new graduate engineers and the actual requirements of engineering branches. The strong progress of technology requires engineers to have the intellectual abilities and necessary job-specific skills to master that progress. This paper focuses on Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate (CDIO) approach-based teaching for students majoring in electrical and electronic engineering technology at engineering universities in Vietnam to demonstrate the feasibility of the teaching model. The experimental method of synthesizing qualitative and quantitative results for 90 students in control and experimental classes was used. The experimental and control classes both had 45 students. SPSS software version 22 was used to gather data and evaluate the learning results of the two experimental and control groups. According to the findings of the T-test analysis of the independent variables for the two groups, the experimental class performed better in academics and had students in the experimental group who were more satisfied with their post-test scores. This result contributes to confirm that the use of the CDIO-based teaching model in Vietnam is effective for students majoring in electrical and electronic engineering technology

Facile Template In-Situ Fabrication of ZnCo2O4 Nanoparticles with Highly Photocatalytic Activities under Visible-Light Irradiation

    Get PDF
High specific surface area ZnCo2O4 nanoparticles were prepared via a sacrificial template accelerated hydrolysis by using nanoparticles of ZnO with highly polar properties as a template. The obtained ZnCo2O4 nanoparticles were characterized by the method of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The obtained nanoparticles were performed as a photocatalyst for the degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under visible irradiation. The photocatalytic degradation rate of methylene blue onto the synthesized ZnCo2O4 was higher than that of commercial ZnO and synthesized ZnO template. Copyright © 2019 BCREC Group.
