Data-driven approach to machine condition prognosis using least square regression trees
Machine fault prognosis techniques have been considered profoundly in the recent time due to their profit for reducing unexpected faults or unscheduled maintenance. With those techniques, the working conditions of components, the trending of fault propagation, and the time-to-failure are forecasted precisely before they reach the failure thresholds. In this work, we propose an approach of Least Square Regression Tree (LSRT), which is an extension of the Classification and Regression Tree (CART), in association with one-step-ahead prediction of time-series forecasting technique to predict the future conditions of machines. In this technique, the number of available observations is firstly determined by using Cao’s method and LSRT is employed as prognosis system in the next step. The proposed approach is evaluated by real data of low methane compressor. Furthermore, the comparison between the predicted results of
CART and LSRT are carried out to prove the accuracy. The predicted results show that LSRT offers a potential for

An application of decision trees method for fault diagnosis of induction motors
Decision tree is one of the most effective and widely used methods for building
classification model. Researchers from various disciplines such as statistics, machine learning,
pattern recognition, and data mining have considered the decision tree method as an effective
solution to their field problems. In this paper, an application of decision tree method to classify the faults of induction motors is proposed. The original data from experiment is dealt with feature calculation to get the useful information as attributes. These data are then assigned the classes which are based on our experience before becoming data inputs for decision tree. The total 9 classes are defined. An implementation of decision tree written in Matlab is used for these data
FMI Compliant Approach to Investigate the Impact of Communication to Islanded Microgrid Secondary Control
In multi-master islanded microgrids, the inverter controllers need to share
the signals and to coordinate, in either centralized or distributed way, in
order to operate properly and to assure a good functionality of the grid. The
central controller is used in centralized strategy. In distributed control,
Multi-agent system (MAS) is considered to be a suitable solution for
coordination of such system. However the latency and disturbance of the network
may disturb the communication from central controller to local controllers or
among agents or and negatively influence the grid operation. As a consequence,
communication aspects need to be properly addressed during the control design
and assessment. In this paper, we propose a holistic approach with
co-simulation using Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) standard to validate the
microgrid control system taking into account the communication network. A
use-case of islanded microgrid frequency secondary control with MAS under
consensus algorithm is implemented to demonstrate the impact of communication
and to illustrate the proposed holistic approach.Comment: Proceedings of the IEEE PES ISGT Asia 2017 conferenc
Machine condition prognosis based on regression trees and one-step-ahead prediction
Predicting degradation of working conditions of machinery and trending of fault propagation before they reach the alarm or failure threshold is extremely importance in industry to fully utilize the machine production capacity. This paper proposes a method to predict future conditions of machines based on one-step-ahead prediction of time-series forecasting techniques and regression trees. In this study, the embedding dimension is firstly estimated in order to determine the necessary available
observations for predicting the next value in the future. This value is subsequently utilized for
regression tree predictor. Real trending data of low methane compressor acquired from condition
monitoring routine are employed for evaluating the proposed method. The results indicate that the
proposed method offers a potential for machine condition prognosi

Vortex flow generator utilizing synthetic jets by diaphragm vibration
This paper develops a millimeter scale fully packaged device in which a vortex flow of high velocity is generated inside a chamber. Under the actuation by a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) diaphragm, a flow circulates with increasing velocity after each actuating circle to form a vortex in a cavity named as the vortex chamber. At each cycle, the vibration of the PZT diaphragm creates a small net air flow through a rectifying nozzle, generates a synthetic jet which propagates by a gradual circulation toward the vortex chamber and then backward the feedback chamber. The design of such device is firstly conducted by a numerical analysis whose results are considered as the base of our experimental set-up. A vortex flow generated in the votex chamber was observed by a high-speed camera. The present approach which was illustrated by both the simulation and experiment is potential in various applications related to the inertial sensing, fluidic amplifier and micro/nano particle trapping and mixing
How heterogeneous are the determinants of total factor productivity in manufacturing sectors? Panel-data evidence from vietnam
One of the remaining challenges in explaining differences in total factor productivity is heterogeneity between sectors and within a specific sector in terms of labor and capital. This paper employs the generalized method of moments (GMM) to identify factors that affect total factor productivity across 21 manufacturing sectors and to clarify the heterogeneous determinants of total factor productivity within manufacturing sectors for the period 2010–2015. Our estimations show that large firms have significantly greater total factor productivity levels than small firms in some fragmentations of firms in terms of both labor and total capital and in some manufacturing sectors. It is suggested that firm characteristics should be considered by the government in establishing relevant policies for enhancing firm productivity
A circulatory ionic wind for inertial sensing application
A novel gyroscope using circulatory electro-hydrodynamics flow in a confined space is presented for the first time. The configuration of the new gyroscope includes three point-ring corona discharge actuators that generate ion flows in three separated sub-channels. The three ion flows then merge together when going through a nozzle of the main chamber entrance and create a jet flow. In the new configuration, the residual charge of ion wind flow is removed by a master-ring electrode located at one end of the main chamber. Under the effect of the angular speed of gyroscope, the jet flow is deflected and this deflection is sensed using hotwires. The results, which are consistently acquired by both the numerical simulation and experiment on our prototypes, demonstrate the repeatability and stability of the new approach. Since the ion wind can be generated by a minimum power, the present configuration-based device does not require any vibrating component. Thus, the device is robust, cost, and energy-effective
Synthesis and Investigation of the Physical Properties of Lead-Free BCZT Ceramics
This work presents the structure, microstructure, and physical properties of low sintering temperature lead-free ceramics 0.52(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3-0.48Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 doped with nano-sized ZnO particles (noted as BCZT/x, x is the content of ZnO nanoparticles in wt.%, x = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, and 0.25). The obtained results of Raman scattering and dielectric measurements have confirmed that Zn2+ has occupied B-site, to cause a deformation in the ABO3-type lattice of the BCZT/x specimens. The 0.15 wt.% ZnO-modified ceramic sintered at 1350°C exhibited excellent piezoelectric parameters: d33 = 420 pC/N, d31 = −174 pC/N, kp = 0.483, kt = 0.423, and k33 = 0.571. The obtained results indicate that the high-quality lead-free BCZT ceramic could be successfully synthesized at a low sintering temperature of 1350°C with an addition of appropriated amount of ZnO nanoparticles. This work also reports the influence of the sintering temperature on structure, microstructure, and piezoelectric properties of BCZT/0.15 compound. By rising sintering temperature, the piezoelectric behaviors were improved and rose up to the best parameters at a sintering temperature of 1450°C (d33 = 576 pC/N and kp = 0.55). The corresponding properties of undoped BCZT ceramics were investigated as a comparison. It also presented that the sintering behavior and piezo-parameters of doped BCZT samples are better than the undoped BCZT samples at each sintering temperature
