Exact Solutions for Fixed-Fixed Anisotropic Beams under Uniform Load by Using Maple

    Get PDF
The approximate solutions of stresses and displacements were obtained for fixed-fixed anisotropic beams subjected to uniform load. A stress function involving un-known coefficients was constructed, and the general expressions of stress and displacement were obtained by means of airy stress function method. Two types of the description for the fixed end boundary condition were considered. The introduced unknown coefficients in stress function were determined by using the boundary conditions. The approximate solutions for stresses and displacements were finally obtained. Numerical tests show that the solutions agree with the FEM results. These solutions are achieved by using Maple software

    Composition-centered architectural pattern description language

    Get PDF
International audienceArchitectural patterns are important artefacts containing specialized design knowledge to build good-quality systems. Complex systems often exhibit several architectural patterns in their design which leads to the need of architectural pattern composition. Unfortunately, information about the composition of patterns tend to be vaporized right after the composition process which causes problems of traceability and reconstructability of patterns. This paper proposes a pattern description language that first, facilitates several types of pattern merging operation and second, allows the traceability of pattern composition. More specifically, the approach consists of a proper description of pattern that supports composition operations and a two-step pattern design process that helps to preserve pattern composition information

A study on vegetative propagation of Huperzia serrata by cuttings in Sa Pa, Lao Cai

Huperzia serrata is a precious medicinal plant used in medicine to support and treat Alzheimer's disease. Currently, this species is in danger of extinction due to indiscriminate exploitation for commercial purposes. Furthermore, this species reproduces slowly and is difficult to cultivate artificially. The reproduction by spores of this species is very long and takes 15−20 years from the spore germination to mature plant, whereas asexual reproduction by tissue culture is also difficult. Therefore, cutting is an effective method to propagate this species on a large scale. In this study, we surveyed the factors affecting the survival rate, the rooting and the number of new leaves of the stem cuttings, including cutting length, growing substrate, and effects of growth-regulating hormones IBA (0 ppm, 500 ppm, 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm and 3000 ppm) and α-NAA (0 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, 30 ppm and 40 ppm). The experimental results showed that using cuttings of 6 cm in length treated with IBA at a concentration of 1000 ppm for 30 mins and cultured on the substrate mixture of soil, decomposed animal manure and rice husk at a ratio of 3:1:1 was the best for cuttings of H. serrata in Sa Pa. The results of this study will contribute to the conservation and development of genetic source of H. serrata in Vietnam.

Increased Wettability and Surface Free Energy of Polyurethane by Ultraviolet Ozone Treatment

The wettability of polyurethane (PU) was altered using ultraviolet ozone (UVO) treatment. The effect of UVO treatment on PU surface chemistry was investigated with various experiments. The direct measurement of sessile drops was employed to quantify the static contact angle of different wetting liquids on homogeneous PU films with various UV ozone treatment times. The contact angle of DI water droplets was decreased to 17.2Âș from 70.04Âș after 5min UVO treatment. The surface free energy of PU films was 51.46mN/m prior to treatment and was increased to 71.5mN/m after being fully treated. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XP) analysis shows a significant amount of polar functional species (C-O and C=O bonding) were formed on the PU surface by UVO treatment. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) characterization shows the PU surface morphology was different before and after UVO treatment. The effect of water washing on UVO treated surface was also investigated. An aging effect study indicates the UV ozone modification can sustain the improved wettability with limited hydrophobic recovery, where the DI water contact angle remains constant at around 22Âș after the UVO treatment
