The role of fluoride tablets in the prophylaxis of dental caries. A literature review

Doing a meta-analysis to answer the question: “Does fluoride tablets prevent dental caries among children and adolescents?” A review of the literature is performed using the following databases: PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Embase, NHS Evidence Oral Health, PsycINFO, Web of Knowledge, Metalib. The keywords used are dental fluoride, fluoride tablets. The studies analyzed was limited to English language with free abstract. For the studies selection was taken into consideration the criteria proposed by the Cochrane Oral Health Group. Few studies with good quality were identified in general. Only 3 out of 779 studies were acceptable. Evident disagreements among the results show that there’s a limited effectiveness on fluoride tablets

Risultato a lungo termine di impianti endossei posizionati a livello del tuber maxillae

OBIETTIVI Il posizionamento di un impianto endosseo nell\u2019area della tuberosit\ue0 mascellare pu\uf2 rappresentare un\u2019alternativa in caso di volume osseo inadeguato nei pazienti con grave riassorbimento mascellare. Tuttavia, si sa poco dei risultati a lungo termine di tale procedura. Lo scopo del presente studio \ue8 di riportare il tasso di sopravvivenza e successo e di riassorbimento osseo marginale dell\u2019impianto posto nell\u2019area del tuber maxillae dopo dieci anni di follow-up. MATERIALI E METODI Quindici pazienti (8 maschi e 7 femmine) sono stati trattati con fixture 3i Implant Innovation (lunghezze 11,5-15 mm, diametro 3,75 mm). I pazienti sono stati sottoposti a ortopantomografia a 10 anni per valutare la perdita ossea crestale, calcolando la distanza tra il collo dell\u2019impianto e il punto di contatto pi\uf9 coronale tra l\u2019osso in zona mesiale e distale. Le misurazioni sono state eseguite utilizzando ImageJ sull\u2019ortopantomografia eseguita al tempo della chirurgia e quella a 10 anni di distanza. Il successo e la sopravvivenza degli impianti sono stati valutati utilizzando i criteri definiti da Albrektsson nel 1986. RISULTATI Nessuno dei quindici impianti \ue8 stato diagnosticato come fallito dopo 10 anni di follow-up; il riassorbimento osseo mesiale e distale medio era, rispettivamente, di 1,77 mm e di 1,95 mm. CONCLUSIONI Il successo cumulativo e il tasso di sopravvivenza degli impianti erano del 100% secondo i criteri di Albrektsson

Drugs on the web; the Psychonaut 2002 EU project

Abstract Purpose: Only a few formal assessments of websites with drug-related contents have been carried out. We aimed here at fostering collection and analysis of data from web pages related to information on consumption, manufacture and sales of psychoactive substances. General methods: An 8-language, two-engine, assessment of the information available in a purposeful sample of 1633 unique websites was carried out. Findings: A pro-drug and a harm reduction approach were evident, respectively, in 18% and 10% of websites accessed. About 1 in 10 websites offered either psychoactive compounds for sale or detailed data on drugs' synthesis/extraction procedures. Information on a number of psychoactive substances and on unusual drugs' combinations not found in the Medline was elicited.
