    Time-domain robotic vision application

The quest for the highest resolution microwaves imaging and the principle of time-domain imaging is the primary motivation for recent developments in time-domain techniques. With the present technology fast time varying signals can now be measured and recorded both in magnitude and in phase. It has also enhanced the ability to extract relevant details concerning the scattering object. In the past, the inference of object geometry or shape from scattered signals has received substantial attention in radar technology. Various inverse scattering theories were proposed to develop analytical solutions to this problem. Furthermore, the random inversion, frequenty swept holography, and the synthetic radar imaging, all of which have two things in common: the physical optic far-field approximation and the utilization of the channels as an extra physical dimension, were also advanced significantly. Despite the inherent vectorial nature of electromagnetic waves, these scalar treatments have brought forth some promising results in practice with notable examples in subsurface and structure sounding. The use of time-domain imaging for space robotic vision applications was proposed. A multisensor approach to vision was shown to have several advantages over the video-only approach

Management Skills for the Contemporary College President: A Critical Review

    Get PDF
This review of the literature related to the contemporary college president attempted to describe changes to the presidential role during the past 30 years. In addition to describing changes to the role, the review explores the personal, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills required for leading a contemporary university. The findings particularly note that with the changing demands for accountability in higher education, presidents are being forced to spend more of their time and be more focused on issues of finance, law, and public interactions. These issues tend to collide in discussions of public policy and within the framework of state legislative proposals. Continued professional development for college presidents is recommended, especially in terms of aligning work place priorities with the institution’s mission

An Assessment of Attitudes and Perceptions of College Students Toward a Suicide Program on a College Campus: A Descriptive Study

OBJECTIVE: A baseline assessment examines the status of attitudes and perceptions about the suicide prevention program of a small, private, southeastern, Christian university. Gaps in the literature include the lack of baseline evaluations at universities before evidenced-based practice (EBP) interventions. PARTICIPANTS: A purposive sample of sixty-nine sophomores classified as first-year students for the 2016-2017 school year. The study sample lived on campus both semesters of the 2016-2017 school year. METHODS: Participants completed the retired Suicide Prevention Exposure, Awareness and Knowledge Survey (SPEAKS) – SV (Student Version) by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for the Garrett Lee Smith (GLS) Memorial Act Grant of 2004. The survey tool is delivered online through Qualtrics and measures suicide prevention knowledge and lived experiences on campus during their freshman year. RESULTS: Participants identified the presence of a suicide prevention program on campus. The rate is 65.2% (n=45) respondents affirmed exposure to suicide prevention materials on campus, and the highest reported materials (36.2%) is in the form of posters, brochures, or printed media (ex. Suicide prevention hotline number). Only 11% (n=8) of the respondents indicated they had ever participated in a suicide prevention activity on campus as first-year students. CONCLUSIONS: The baseline assessment offered data that is useful to determine areas of need. The need for training faculty and staff in EPB SP is a gap defined by this study. KEYWORDS: suicide prevention (SP), lived experience, GLS Memorial Act Grant of 2004, suicide attempt, suicide ideation (SI
