Learning Meta Model for Zero- and Few-shot Face Anti-spoofing
Face anti-spoofing is crucial to the security of face recognition systems.
Most previous methods formulate face anti-spoofing as a supervised learning
problem to detect various predefined presentation attacks, which need large
scale training data to cover as many attacks as possible. However, the trained
model is easy to overfit several common attacks and is still vulnerable to
unseen attacks. To overcome this challenge, the detector should: 1) learn
discriminative features that can generalize to unseen spoofing types from
predefined presentation attacks; 2) quickly adapt to new spoofing types by
learning from both the predefined attacks and a few examples of the new
spoofing types. Therefore, we define face anti-spoofing as a zero- and few-shot
learning problem. In this paper, we propose a novel Adaptive Inner-update Meta
Face Anti-Spoofing (AIM-FAS) method to tackle this problem through
meta-learning. Specifically, AIM-FAS trains a meta-learner focusing on the task
of detecting unseen spoofing types by learning from predefined living and
spoofing faces and a few examples of new attacks. To assess the proposed
approach, we propose several benchmarks for zero- and few-shot FAS. Experiments
show its superior performances on the presented benchmarks to existing methods
in existing zero-shot FAS protocols.Comment: Accepted by AAAI202
Dynamic Handover: Throw and Catch with Bimanual Hands
Humans throw and catch objects all the time. However, such a seemingly common
skill introduces a lot of challenges for robots to achieve: The robots need to
operate such dynamic actions at high-speed, collaborate precisely, and interact
with diverse objects. In this paper, we design a system with two multi-finger
hands attached to robot arms to solve this problem. We train our system using
Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning in simulation and perform Sim2Real transfer
to deploy on the real robots. To overcome the Sim2Real gap, we provide multiple
novel algorithm designs including learning a trajectory prediction model for
the object. Such a model can help the robot catcher has a real-time estimation
of where the object will be heading, and then react accordingly. We conduct our
experiments with multiple objects in the real-world system, and show
significant improvements over multiple baselines. Our project page is available

Effect of Groove Texture on Deformation and Sealing Performance of Engine Piston Ring
During the present study, a double groove texture was designed on the surface of a piston ring to improve the sealing performance between the piston ring and cylinder liner. The experimental design method was used to fabricate the test plan according to the groove width, depth, and spacing. By using the thermal–structural coupling analysis method, the finite element analysis of the standard piston ring and the textured piston ring was carried out to simulate the deformation state of the cylinder liner system of the piston ring group during the working stroke. The piston rings with different parameters designed by the test scheme were manufactured by wire electrical discharge machining, and the self-made experiment device carried out the sealing test. The results showed that the groove texture could improve the sealing performance of the piston ring, and the analyzed results demonstrated that the groove texture had little effect on the maximum deformation of the piston ring. Still, it could significantly reduce the minimum deformation of the piston ring group. A piston ring with groove texture would improve the sealing performance and reduce the deformation during the work stroke. During the test, the average deformation of the No.7 piston ring group, with a groove depth of 1 mm, a groove width of 0.5 mm, and a groove spacing of 0.1 mm, was the smallest, about 29.6% lower than that of the standard piston ring group. The sealing performance of the No.7 piston ring group was the best, and the reduction rate of the top gas leakage rate was 52.18%. During the present study, the sealing performance of the piston ring was improved by designing the grooved structure on the piston ring surface, thereby improving the fuel economy and power performance of the engine. The present study could provide a reference for the engineering field to design a piston ring with high sealing performance
Pan-cancer analysis of IFN-γ with possible immunotherapeutic significance: a verification of single-cell sequencing and bulk omics research
BackgroundInterferon-gamma (IFN-γ), commonly referred to as type II interferon, is a crucial cytokine that coordinates the tumor immune process and has received considerable attention in tumor immunotherapy research. Previous studies have discussed the role and mechanisms associated with IFN-γ in specific tumors or diseases, but the relevant role of IFN-γ in pan-cancer remains uncertain.MethodsTCGA and GTEx RNA expression data and clinical data were downloaded. Additionally, we analyzed the role of IFN-γ on tumors by using a bioinformatic approach, which included the analysis of the correlation between IFN-γ in different tumors and expression, prognosis, functional status, TMB, MSI, immune cell infiltration, and TIDE. We also developed a PPI network for topological analysis of the network, identifying hub genes as those having a degree greater than IFN-γ levels.ResultIFN-γ was differentially expressed and predicted different survival statuses in a majority of tumor types in TCGA. Additionally, IFN-γ expression was strongly linked to factors like infiltration of T cells, immune checkpoints, immune-activating genes, immunosuppressive genes, chemokines, and chemokine receptors, as well as tumor purity, functional statuses, and prognostic value. Also, prognosis, CNV, and treatment response were all substantially correlated with IFN-γ-related gene expression. Particularly, the IFN-γ-related gene STAT1 exhibited the greatest percentage of SNVs and the largest percentage of SNPs in UCEC. Elevated expression levels of IFN-γ-related genes were found in a wide variety of tumor types, and this was shown to be positively linked to drug sensitivity for 20 different types of drugs.ConclusionIFN-γ is a good indicator of response to tumor immunotherapy and is likely to limit tumor progression, offering a novel approach for immunotherapy’s future development

Single-Layered Organic Photovoltaics With Double Cascading Charge Transport Pathways: 18% Efficiencies
The chemical structure of donors and acceptors limit the power conversion efficiencies achievable with active layers of binary donor-acceptor mixtures. Here, using quaternary blends, double cascading energy level alignment in bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic active layers are realized, enabling efficient carrier splitting and transport. Numerous avenues to optimize light absorption, carrier transport, and charge-transfer state energy levels are opened by the chemical constitution of the components. Record-breaking PCEs of 18.07% are achieved where, by electronic structure and morphology optimization, simultaneous improvements of the open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current and fill factor occur. The donor and acceptor chemical structures afford control over electronic structure and charge-transfer state energy levels, enabling manipulation of hole-transfer rates, carrier transport, and non-radiative recombination losses
Long Non-Coding RNA CYP4B1-PS1-001 Inhibits Proliferation and Fibrosis in Diabetic Nephropathy by Interacting with Nucleolin
Background/Aims: Our previous studies demonstrated that a novel long non-coding RNA, CYP4B1-PS1-001, was significantly downregulated in early diabetic nephropathy in vivo and in vitro, and CYP4B1-PS1-001 overexpression could inhibit the proliferation and fibrosis of mouse mesangial cells (MMCs). However, the underlying mechanism of the CYP4B1-PS1-001-mediated regulation of proliferation and fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy remains undetermined. Methods: RNA-protein pull-down assay, RNA-binding protein immunoprecipitation, and mass spectrometry were used to investigate CYP4B1-PS1-001 interacted with the upregulated protein nucleolin (NCL). siRNA method was applied to knockdown NCL in MMCs, the interaction between CYP4B1-PS1-001 and NCL were determined by Western blot analysis and RT-qPCR. The effect of CYP4B1-PS1-001 in the regulation of NCL was detected by cycloheximide (CHX) and ubiquitination assays. Results: We found that CYP4B1-PS1-001 interacts with NCL, and CYP4B1-PS1-001 inhibits the proliferation and fibrosis of MMCs depending on interaction with NCL. Furthermore, degradation of CYP4B1-PS1-001-associated NCL was mediated by a ubiquitin proteasome-dependent pathway. Conclusion: Our study provides evidence that CYP4B1-PS1-001 regulates the ubiquitination and degradation of NCL and thereby plays a critical role in the proliferation and fibrosis of MMCs, indicating that CYP4B1-PS1-001 and NCL may be promising prognostic biomarkers and molecular targets for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy
