Strategic Remanufacturing Decision in a Supply Chain with an External Local Remanufacturer

This paper develops a model for remanufacturing decisions in a two-stage supply chain with one manufacturer, one retailer and one external local remanufacturer, who collects used products and then reproduces them into a new one if the manufacturer does not join in remanufacturing process. This paper is different from most of the extant studies about remanufacturing because they consider decisions of firms rather than supply chains. We mainly focus on the remanufacturing strategy of the manufacturer when there is a local remanufacturer. We derive the equilibrium results for all players and do some comparative studies under different cases. We find that product substitutability can invert the effect of manufacturer’s extension decision on the retailer’s profit. We also consider the effect of channel structure by comparing the decentralized channel with the centralized channel. We find that the manufacturer has a higher incentive to extend its product line in the centralized channel than the decentralized channel; and the competition can strengthen its motivation to extend the line

LncRNA MALAT1: A potential therapeutic target in DSSinduced ulcerative colitis progression in vitro

Purpose: Ulcerative colitis is a severe disease affecting human health worldwide. Studies have shown that lncRNA MALAT1 has a significant correlation with breast, pancreatic, colon and liver cancers, but its effects on colitis is yet to be discovered. In this study, the potential role of lncRNA MALAT1 and the underlying molecular mechanism in DSS-induced colitis were investigated in vitro. Methods: Colorectal mucosal cell line FHC was induced with dextran sulphate sodium (DSS) to form an in vitro colitis model. Transfection procedure was employed to up- or down-regulate the expressions of lncRNA MALAT1 or miR-30c-5p in FHC cells. Cell viabilities were detected by CCK-8 assay. RT-qPCR was applied for evaluating gene expressions in normal FHC and DSS-induced FHC cell lines, while protein expression levels of target genes were examined by Western blot analysis. Starbase was used to predict the molecular interaction between MALAT1 and miR-30c-5p, while luciferase reporter assay was utilized to verify the binding sites between the two genes. Results: Expression of MALAT1 in the DSS-induced FHC cells was high with low cell viabilities, compared to the normal FHC cells. In the DSS-induced colitis-like FHC cells, overexpression of MALAT1 inhibited cell viabilities, while its downregulation promoted it. MiR-30c-5p directly targets MALAT1 and inhibited its expression in DSS-treated FHC cells. Upregulation of miR-30c-5p increased cell viabilities. Bcl-xL expression was inhibited by the up-regulation of MALAT1, while that of Bax was enhanced and the mimics of miR-30c-5p reversed these observations, suggesting that the enhancement of apoptosis promoted by oe-MALAT1 could be inhibited by miR-30c-5p. The interaction between MALAT1 and miR-30c-5p regulated NF-κB/TGF-β/Wnt-β-catenin signaling pathway. Conclusion: Overexpression of MALAT1 led to inhibition of cell viability, while apoptosis and inflammation were promoted by targeting miR-30c-5p via NF-κB/TGF-β/Wnt-β-catenin signaling pathway. These findings suggest MALAT1 as a therapeutic target for treating colitis. Keywords: Colitis, MALAT1, miR-30c-5p, NF-κB/TGF-β/Wnt-β-catenin&nbsp

Optimization with a Genetic Algorithm for Multilayer Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Cement Mortar Filled with Expended Perlite

Abstract: Due to the complexity of the design of multilayer electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbing materials, it is difficult to establish the relationship between material parameters (type and filling ratios) and EM properties using traditional trial and error methods. Based on the measured EM parameters within a few materials and Boltzmann mixing theory, a database of EM parameters was thereafter built up. In this study, the genetic algorithm (GA) was used to design the multilayer wave-absorbing cement mortar. In order to verify this method, a multilayer mortar was fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results are well consistent, which convincingly verifies computer-aided design. In addition, the optimized result expresses that the first layer as a matching layer guides EM waves into the interior of the material, while the other layers as absorption layers attenuate EM waves. The multilayer material may not meet the impedance gradient principle but still exhibits better EM wave absorption performance. The reflection loss (RL) of all optimized three layer sample is below –6.89 dB in the full frequency band and the minimum RL is –26.21 dB. This composite absorbing material and the GA method provide more design ideas for the design of future cement-based wave-absorbing materials and save a lot of time and material cost

Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated cycle syndrome: a case report and literature review

    Get PDF
Recurring episodes of fever characterize tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS) which is autosomal dominant. The primary symptoms of patients with TRAPS include prolonged fever, abdominal pain, muscle pain, and skin rashes. The prevalence of TRAPS appeared higher in Western countries than in Asian countries. Herein, we present the case of a 13-year-old girl who experienced intermittent fever for 8 years, with episodes that occur every 2 years. The patient demonstrated periodic fever, headache, vomiting, rash, and elevated inflammatory marker levels during the disease course. A heterozygous C55Y mutation was identified via a direct DNA sequencing of her genomic DNA. This mutation is located in exon 4 of TNFRSF1A. Genetic studies of her sister and mother revealed that they possessed the C55Y heterozygous mutation without demonstrating any clinical signs, while the father did not. Further, we conducted a thorough assessment of the literature and compiled the information from the eight TRAPS case series

    Fuzzy case-based reasoning system

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a fuzzy case-based reasoning system, using a case-based reasoning (CBR) system that learns from experience to solve problems. Different from a traditional case-based reasoning system that uses crisp cases, our system works with fuzzy ones. Specifically, we change a crisp case into a fuzzy one by fuzzifying each crisp case element (feature), according to the maximum degree principle. Thus, we add the "vague" concept into a case-based reasoning system. It is these somewhat vague inputs that make the outcomes of the prediction more meaningful and accurate, which illustrates that it is not necessarily helpful when we always create accurate predictive relations through crisp cases. Finally, we prove this and apply this model to practical weather forecasting, and experiments show that using fuzzy cases can make some prediction results more accurate than using crisp cases.Peer reviewedComputer Scienc

Study on evaporation drainage of deep coal seam gas wells

    Get PDF
Targeting the problem of a small amount of fluid accumulation in deep coal seam gas (CSG) wells during flowing production stage, the evaporation drainage method is proposed to discharge the liquid accumulation. Based on the Dalton evaporation model and wind speed function, a calculation model of evaporation drainage was established for deep CSG wells, which was verified by laboratory experiments. Taking a CSG well in the western Ordos Basin as an example to analyze the evaporation drainage capacity, the influence of temperature, daily gas production, bottomhole flowing pressure (BHFP), formation gas water saturation on the evaporation drainage capacity was investigated. The results show that the maximum evaporation water production is 2,533.8 kg/d at a bottomhole temperature of 80°C and a gas production rate of 30 × 103 m3/d. It is found that the temperature and pressure have a marked influence on the evaporation drainage. By improving the gas production and bottomhole temperature, and reducing the BHFP can effectively promote the evaporation drainage capacity. The initial moisture content of CSG in the reservoir are inversely proportional to the evaporation drainage capacity. By adjusting the BHFP and daily gas production, the evaporation drainage capacity can match the liquid production rate of the formation. Evaporation drainage can effectively extend the flowing production time of deep CSG wells and reduce the costs of production
