Genital bleeding in prepubertal girls

Sangramento genital em crianças pré-púberes é um sintoma considerado anormal e requer investigação. Embora as causas mais comuns de sangramento vaginal nessa população sejam vulvovaginites e trauma acidental, a principal preocupação dos cuidadores é o abuso sexual, que deve ser sempre investigado. A queixa de sangramento vaginal em pré-púberes já é por si só motivo de sofrimento por parte da criança e dos cuidadores; portanto, é imprescindível que profissionais da saúde conheçam os principais diagnósticos diferenciais, a fim de realizar uma avaliação adequada e minimamente invasiva, evitando a ocorrência de repercussões mais graves. Foi feita pesquisa de artigos sobre o assunto no pubmed e livros de ginecologia e obstetrícia a partir de 2009. Esta revisão de literatura foi realizada com intuito de apresentar os principais diagnósticos diferenciais de sangramento genital em meninas pré-púberes e aspectos da avaliação que auxiliam na identificação da etiologia e seu tratamento.Genital bleeding in prepubertal children is considered an abnormal symptom that requires investigation. Although the most common causes of vaginal bleeding in this population are vulvovaginitis and accidental trauma, caregivers’ main concern is sexual abuse, which should always be investigated. The complaint of vaginal bleeding in prepubertal children is itself a cause for suffering on the part of the child and caregivers; therefore, it is essential that health professionals know the main differential diagnoses, in order to carry out an adequate and minimally invasive assessment, avoiding the occurrence of more serious repercussions. A search of articles on the subject was carried out in Pubmed and gynecology and obstetrics books as of 2009. This literature review was carried out in order to present the main differential diagnoses of genital bleeding in prepubertal girls and aspects of the evaluation that help in identifying the etiology and its treatment
