A Noisy Monte Carlo Algorithm

We propose a Monte Carlo algorithm to promote Kennedy and Kuti's linear accept/reject algorithm which accommodates unbiased stochastic estimates of the probability to an exact one. This is achieved by adopting the Metropolis accept/reject steps for both the dynamical and noise configurations. We test it on the five state model and obtain desirable results even for the case with large noise. We also discuss its application to lattice QCD with stochastically estimated fermion determinants.Comment: 10 pages, 1 tabl

Mixed convection in a rotating porous cavity having local heater

Numerical simulation of convective heat transfer inside a rotating porous square cavity with local heater of constant temperature has been performed. Governing equations formulated on the basis of mass, momentum and energy conservation laws written using the dimensionless stream function, vorticity and temperature have been solved by the finite difference method. Recent atmospheric neutrino results from Soudan 2

An updated measurement of the atmospheric nu_mu/nu_e ratio-of-ratios, 0.68+-0.11+-0.06, has been obtained using a 4.6-kty exposure of the Soudan-2 iron tracking calorimeter. The L/E distributions have been analyzed for effects of nu_mu -> nu_x oscillations, and an allowed region in the Delta m^2 vs. sin^2 2 theta plane has been determined.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures; presented at TAUP99, the 6th Int. Study of the effect of thermo - and photosdate on the properties of cotton fabrics by vibrational spectroscopy

By IR and Raman spectroscopy we studied the influence of photo - and thermal impact on dyed cotton fabric. The possibility is shown how the identification of different dyes and to detect signs of different ways impacts on the fabric. Demonstrated that the combined use of IR and Raman spectroscopy extends the study of woven materials

Soudan 2 data acquisition and trigger electronics

The 1.1 kton Soudan 2 calorimetric drift-chamber detector is read out by 16K anode wires and 32K cathode strips. Preamps from each wire or strip are bussed together in groups of 8 to reduce the number of ADC channels. The resulting 6144 channels of ionization signal are flash-digitized every 200 ns and stored in RAM. The raw data hit patterns are continually compared with programmable trigger multiplicity and adjacency conditions. The data acquisition process is managed in a system of 24 parallel crates each containing an Intel 80C86 microprocessor, which supervises a pipe-lined data compactor, and allows transfer of the compacted data via CAMAC to the host computer. The 80C86's also manage the local trigger conditions and can perform some parallel processing of the data. Due to the scale of the system and multiplicity of identical channels, semi-custom gate array chips are used for much of the logic, utilizing 2.5 micron CMOS technology

Photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac in wastewater using ironceramic composites

The photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac in model aqueous solution is investigated. The surface of composites were correlated with photocatalytic activity. Adsorption activity of the composites is related to the presence of surface active sites. The degradation under UV irradiation and photo-Fenton process using ironceramic composites is more effective than direct photolysis
