Comment on "Strong dependence of the interlayer coupling on the hole mobility in antiferromagnetic LaSrCuO ()"
Using the experimental data given in Phys. Rev. B70, 220507 (2004), we show
that -- unlike the effective coupling discussed in this paper -- the net
average antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling in doped lanthanum cuprates
depends only weakly on the doping or on the temperature. We argue that the
effective coupling is proportional to the square of the staggered
magnetization, and does not supply new information about the origin of the
suppression of the magnetic order in doped samples. Our analysis is based on a
modified version of the equation describing the spin-flip transition, which
takes into account the decrease of the staggered moment with temperature and

Theory of Electromagnetic Wave Transmission through Metallic Gratings of Subwavelength Slits
We present FDTD calculations for transmission of light and other
electromagnetic waves through periodic arrays of slits in a metallic slab. The
results show resonant, frequency dependent, transmittance peaks for
subwavelength widths of the slits which can be up to a factor of ten with
respect to those out of resonance. Although our conclusions agree with previous
work by Lezec and Thio as regards both the magnitude of the enhancement and the
lack of contribution of surface plasmon polaritons of the metal surface to this
effect, we derive an interpretation from a theory that deals with emerging
beam- Rayleigh anomalies of the grating, and with Fabry-Perot resonances of the
perforated slab considered as an effective medium.Comment: 12 pages 3 figure
Unusual magnetic susceptibility anisotropy in untwinned La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 single crystals in the lightly-doped region
We present a study of the magnetic susceptibility in carefully detwinned
La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_4 single crystals in the lightly-doped region (x=0-0.03),
which demonstrates a remarkable in-plane anisotropy of the spin system. This
anisotropy is found to persist after the long-range antiferromagnetic (AF)
order is destroyed by hole doping, suggesting that doped holes break the AF
order into domains in which the spin alignment is kept essentially intact. It
turns out that the freezing of the spins taking place at low temperatures is
also notably anisotropic, implying that the "spin-glass" feature is governed by

CT dose reduction factors in the thousands using X-ray phase contrast
Phase-contrast X-ray imaging can improve the visibility of weakly absorbing
objects (e.g. soft tissues) by an order of magnitude or more compared to
conventional radiographs. Previously, it has been shown that combining phase
retrieval with computed tomography (CT) can increase the signal-to-noise ratio
(SNR) by up to two orders of magnitude over conventional CT at the same
radiation dose, without loss of image quality. Our experiments reveal that as
radiation dose decreases, the relative improvement in SNR increases. We
discovered this enhancement can be traded for a reduction in dose greater than
the square of the gain in SNR. Upon reducing the dose 300 fold, the
phase-retrieved SNR was still almost 10 times larger than the absorption
contrast data. This reveals the potential for dose reduction factors in the
tens of thousands without loss in image quality, which would have a profound
impact on medical and industrial imaging applications
Perancangan Buku Kumpulan Cerita Bergambar Rakyat Kalimantan Timur Sebagai Media Penyampaian Pesan Moral
Buku cerita bergambar ini mengangkat beberapa cerita rakyat dari Kalimantan Timur yang berjudul “Asal Mula Nama Kota Balikpapan, Sungai Kerbau yang Keramat, dan Asal Mula Anak Sungai Mahakam” dengan menggunakan gambar bergaya manga. Dengan perancangan buku kumpulan cerita rakyat bergambar ini diharapkan dapat mendidik anak-anak melalui pesan moral yang terkandung dalam isi cerita dan anak-anak bisa mengenali dan memahami unsur-unsur kebudayaan daerah Kalimantan Timur, agar memiliki moral dan pengetahuan tentang budaya bangsa yang baik mengingat anak-anak sekarang banyak yang terpengaruh moral bangsa lain dan budaya lain yang kurang cocok untuk orang seperti bangsa Indonesia
Transport and magnetic properties of GdBaCo_{2}O_{5+x} single crystals: A cobalt oxide with square-lattice CoO_2 planes over a wide range of electron and hole doping
Single crystals of the layered perovskite GdBaCo_{2}O_{5+x} (GBCO) have been
grown by the floating-zone method, and their transport, magnetic, and
structural properties have been studied in detail over a wide range of oxygen
contents. The obtained data are used to establish a rich phase diagram centered
at the "parent'' compound GdBaCo_{2}O_{5.5} -- an insulator with Co ions in the
3+ state. An attractive feature of GBCO is that it allows a precise and
continuous doping of CoO_{2} planes with either electrons or holes, spanning a
wide range from the charge-ordered insulator at 50% electron doping (x=0) to
the undoped band insulator (x=0.5), and further towards the heavily hole-doped
metallic state. This continuous doping is clearly manifested in the behavior of
thermoelectric power which exhibits a spectacular divergence with approaching
x=0.5, where it reaches large absolute values and abruptly changes its sign. At
low temperatures, the homogeneous distribution of doped carriers in GBCO
becomes unstable, and both the magnetic and transport properties point to an
intriguing nanoscopic phase separation. We also find that throughout the
composition range the magnetic behavior in GBCO is governed by a delicate
balance between ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions,
which can be easily affected by temperature, doping, or magnetic field,
bringing about FM-AF transitions and a giant magnetoresistance (MR) phenomenon.
An exceptionally strong uniaxial anisotropy of the Co spins, which dramatically
simplifies the possible spin arrangements, together with the possibility of
continuous ambipolar doping turn GBCO into a model system for studying the
competing magnetic interactions, nanoscopic phase separation and accompanying

Structure of the exotic spin-flop states in BaCu2Si2O7
The unusual 2-stage spin flop transition in BaCu2Si2O7 is studied by
single-crystal neutron diffraction. The magnetic structures of the various
spin-flop phases are determined. The results appear to be inconsistent with the
previously proposed theoretical explanation of the 2-stage transition.Comment: 6 pages 5 figure
Optical properties of tungsten thin films perforated with a bidimensional array of subwavelength holes
We present a theorical investigation of the optical transmission of a
dielectric grating carved in a tungsten layer. For appropriate wavelengths
tungsten shows indeed a dielectric behaviour. Our numerical simulations leads
to theoretical results similar to those found with metallic systems studied in
earlier works. The interpretation of our results rests on the idea that the
transmission is correlated with the resonant response of eigenmodes coupled to
evanescent diffraction orders.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Metal-insulator Crossover Behavior at the Surface of NiS_2
We have performed a detailed high-resolution electron spectroscopic
investigation of NiS and related Se-substituted compounds
NiSSe, which are known to be gapped insulators in the bulk at all
temperatures. A large spectral weight at the Fermi energy of the room
temperature spectrum, in conjunction with the extreme surface sensitivity of
the experimental probe, however, suggests that the surface layer is metallic at
300 K. Interestingly, the evolution of the spectral function with decreasing
temperature is characterized by a continuous depletion of the single-particle
spectral weight at the Fermi energy and the development of a gap-like structure
below a characteristic temperature, providing evidence for a metal-insulator
crossover behavior at the surfaces of NiS and of related compounds. These
results provide a consistent description of the unusual transport properties
