Radiographic features of liver allograft rejection
The radiographic features of 19 transplanted patients with failure of the liver allograft were evaluated. These features were: poor filling, stretching, attenuation of intrahepatic biliary ducts documented by T-tube cholangiogram, attenuation of branches of the hepatic artery seen on angiogram as well as a decrease of blood flow through the liver seen on angiogram and nuclear medicine dynamic scintigram. These findings were secondary to swelling of the transplanted liver and were not specific for rejection; they may also be present in hepatic infarction or infection
Downregulation of Tumor Necrosis Factor Expression in the Human Mono-Mac-6 Cell Line
Mono-Mac-6 cells, but not U937 cells, can be Induced to rapidly express tumor necrosis
factor (TNF) mRNA and protein when triggered with Ilpopolysaccharlde (LPS) at 1 pg/mI.
Preincubatlon of the cells for 3 d with low amounts of LPS (10 ng/mI) results In nearly
complete suppression of TNF secretion. This downreguiatlon appears to occur at the
pretranslational level since specIfIc mRNA is virtually undetectable under these conditions.
By contrast, the same prelncubatlon with 10 ng/mI LPS results in enhanced phagocytosls
(28.6-67.2% for Staphylococcus aureus), demonstrating that not all monocyte
functions are suppressed. While these results show that only stringent exclusion of LPS
from culture media allows for Induction of TNF In the Mono-Mac-6 cell line, the pronounced
effect of LPS preincubatlon may also provide a suitable model with which to
study the mechanisms of LPS-lnduced desensitizatIon
Network Mutual Information and Synchronization under Time Transformations
We investigate the effect of general time transformations on the phase
synchronization (PS) phenomenon and the mutual information rate (MIR) between
pairs of nodes in dynamical networks. We demonstrate two important results
concerning the invariance of both PS and the MIR. Under time transformations PS
can neither be introduced nor destroyed and the MIR cannot be raised from zero.
On the other hand, for proper time transformations the timing between the
cycles of the coupled oscillators can be largely improved. Finally, we discuss
the relevance of our findings for communication in dynamical networks.Comment: 15 p
Dependence of Cluster Diffusivity upon Cluster Structure
We show that the diffusion coefficient of an adsorbed cluster can be decomposed into two factors, one depending upon a weighted length of the \u27active\u27 perimeter and the other depending upon a subtle correlation between hops taken by cluster atoms during diffusion. Both of these factors are structure dependent. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed for clusters on a triangular lattice
