This paper presents the results of adsorption ability of heavy metal ions (Hg2+ and Cd2+) by fly ash (FA) before and after treatment using NaOH and H2SO4 solutions.  Original- and treated FA were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Specific surface area of FA before and after treatment was calculated by Brunauer – Emmett – Teller (BET) isotherm equation. The obtained results indicated that the morphology and specific surface area of FA changed clearly after treatment by acid or alkaline solutions. Adsorption capacity the Hg2+ and Cd2+ ion by FA was determined from data of UV-Vis spectra. After treatment, the adsorption capacity of ions by FA increased remarkably in comparison with non-treated FA. The FA treated by NaOH solution has the adsorption capacity higher than FA treated by H2SO4 solution. The maximum adsorption capacity of the FA treated by NaOH solution for Cd2+ and Hg2+ ions at room temperature is 28.97 and 14.60 mg/g, respectively. The equilibrium adsorption data were described by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The results showed that equilibrium data were fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm. Keywords. SEASONAL VARIATION OF PHYTOPLANKTON FUNCTIONAL GROUPS IN TUYEN LAM RESERVOIR, CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, VIETNAM

    Get PDF
Seasonal changes in freshwater phytoplankton assemblages at Tuyen Lam Reservoir in the Central Highlands of Vietnam were classified into 23 functional groups based on physiological, morphological, and ecological characteristics. A total of 168 species were recorded during 10 surveys from 2015 to 2019 at 7 sampling sites, with Chlorophyta dominating in number of species. Phytoplankton abundance varied from 0.18×105 to 21.2×105 cells/L during the study period, mainly due to cyanobacteria. Seven of the 23 functional groups were considered to be dominant (relative density > 5%).  The dominant functional groups were groups M and G in the dry season and groups M, G, P, and E in the rainy season. Group M (Microcystis aeruginosa) was the most common in both seasons, while group P (Closterium, Staurastrum, Aulacoseira), group E (Dinobryon, Synura), and group G (Sphaerocystis, Eudorina) were more common in the rainy season. The Shannon diversity index (H¢) showed that phytoplankton communities were relatively diverse and that most of the study sites were lightly polluted. However, the ecological status has deteriorated at some locations due to the overgrowth of group M, leading to eutrophication in this reservoir. This study highlights the usefulness of functional groups in the study of seasonal changes in phytoplankton dynamics. Functional groups are applied for the first time at Tuyen Lam Reservoir and can be used to predict early-stage cyanobacterial blooms in future studies

Multi-correlation between nematode communities and environmental variables in mangrove-shrimp ponds, Ca Mau Province, Southern Vietnam

Multi-correlation between bio-indices of nematode communities and ecological parameters in mangrove-shrimp farming ponds in Tam Giang commune, Nam Can District, Ca Mau Province, Vietnam were investigated. In which, diversities of nematode communities and several environmental variables in eight ponds were considered to process. Our findings underlined the high diversity of nematode communities in mangrove-shrimp farming ponds compared to other mangrove habitats. Nematode diversities provided more oppotunity in natural food for shrimp. Single correlation analyses showed that the species richness index correlated significantly to three variables (salinity, total organic carbon, and total nitrogen), the Margalef diversity index correlated to two variables (salinity, total organic carbon), and the expected number of species for 50 individuals index correlated with one variable (salinity). Results of multi-correlation analyses between the nematode bio-indices and the environmental variables were completely different from those of single-correlation analyses. In multi-correlation analyses, the species richness and the Margalef diversity index correlated to two variables (salinity, total organic carbon), Pielou’s evenness index and Hill indices correlated with dissolved oxygen, also the Hurlbert index correlated to total organic carbon. Hence, it is necessary to pay attention to the impact of complex interactions between the multi-environmental variables and nematode communities. This research aims to explain the differences between single- and multi-correlation for evaluation of the effects of environmental factors on nematodes as well as aquatic organisms.

Dynamic stability analysis of laminated composite plates with piezoelectric layers

    Get PDF
Research on the stability to determine the critical value of structures is a complex issue but of real significance. Piezoelectric composite plate is one of the structures which have the ability to control the mechanical behaviors under loads. One of the prominent capabilities of this structure is the ability to control its vibration and stability. Using the finite element method (FEM) and construction calculation program in Matlab, the authors analyzed the elastic stability of piezoelectric composite plates under dynamic in-plane loads, taking into account damping properties of the structure. Critical loads and other factors affecting the stability of the plate are investigated

Multiple heavy metals have contaminated soils with a combination of ecological consequences that make soil remediation more challenging. An experiment was conducted during 2022–23 at University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, Hue city, Vietnam to evaluate the potential of silicon rich biochar from rice (Oryza sativa L.) husk and peanut shell in the remediation of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn) present in rice soils of central Vietnam. A total of 20 samples of rice soil were taken from two distinct locations, Quang Tho commune and Thuy Phuong ward, Thua Thien Hue province, Central Vietnam to measure the quantity of heavy metals and evaluate the level of pollution. Silicon is a beneficial element and its external application as fertilizer seems impractical. Therefore, in this study, the effects of different silicon-rich materials [rice husk biochar (RHB) and peanut shell biochar (PSB)] at 6 different rates (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5%) were determined in reducing heavy metal (Cd and Pb). The mean concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn in soil samples ranged between 0.56–22.14 mg/kg; 19.48–81.30 mg/kg; 23.26–48.54 mg/kg and 28.47–55.12 mg/kg, respectively. Cd and Pb toxicity in rice soil samples was greater in Thuy Phuong ward than the average shale values. Considering the pollution load index (PLI), a total of 6 sites in Thuy Phuong ward had values >1.0 indicating pollution load in the respective sites, and Cd, Pb were the major contaminants in soils of the study area. The addition of silicon-rich materials decreased the contents of Cd and Pb in rice soils with adsorption efficiency from 22.83–38.54% and 30.69–31.53% in rice husk biochar (RHB); 20.47–29.55% and 26.77–27.87% in peanut shell biochar (PSB), respectively. Thus, RHB could be more effective to remediate soils contaminated with heavy metals when compared to other silicon-rich materials

Electrodeposition of HAp coatings on Ti6Al4V alloy and its electrochemical behavior in simulated body fluid solution

    Get PDF
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings were prepared on Ti6Al4V substrate by electrodeposition method from electrolyte solution containing Ca(NO3)2, NH4H2PO4 and NaNO3. The results show that the HAp coatings were single phase crystals of HAp. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images present that HAp/Ti6Al4V have flake shapes which arrange to form like-coral agglomerates. In vitro test of the Ti6Al4V and HAp/Ti6Al4V in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution was investigated with different immersion times. pH of SBF solution decreased and the mass of materials increased. SEM images prove the formation of apatite on the surface of Ti6Al4V and HAp/Ti6Al4V. The corrosion current density during immersion time of substrate is always higher than the one of HAp/Ti6Al4V because the deposited HAp can protect well for the substrate

LBMT team at VLSP2022-Abmusu: Hybrid method with text correlation and generative models for Vietnamese multi-document summarization

Multi-document summarization is challenging because the summaries should not only describe the most important information from all documents but also provide a coherent interpretation of the documents. This paper proposes a method for multi-document summarization based on cluster similarity. In the extractive method we use hybrid model based on a modified version of the PageRank algorithm and a text correlation considerations mechanism. After generating summaries by selecting the most important sentences from each cluster, we apply BARTpho and ViT5 to construct the abstractive models. Both extractive and abstractive approaches were considered in this study. The proposed method achieves competitive results in VLSP 2022 competition.Comment: In Proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP 2022

OPTICAL BISTABILITY IN A DEGENERATE TWO-LEVEL EIT MEDIUM UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF AN EXTERNAL MAGNETIC FIELD: AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH

    Get PDF
We investigate the behavior of optical bistability in a degenerate two-level atomic medium using an external magnetic field to separate the lower level into two distinct levels that both connect to an upper level by the probe and coupling laser fields. Based on analytical solutions, the absorption spectrum and behavior of optical bistability in an electromagnetically induced transparency regime under an external magnetic field are investigated. By controlling the external magnetic field, we find that the appearance and disappearance of the optical bistability can be easily controlled according to the strength of the magnetic field in the transparent window domain. Furthermore, the effects of the intensity of the coupling laser field and the parameters of the system on the behavior of optical bistability are also considered. The proposed model is useful for applications in all-optical switches and magneto-optic storage devices. We investigate the behavior of optical bistability in a degenerate two-level atomic medium using an external magnetic field to separate the lower level into two distinct levels that both connect to an upper level by the probe and coupling laser fields. Lithofacies and paleogeographical characteristics of late Pleistocene-Holocene deposits are related to three sedimentary system tracts: Lowstand systems tract (LST) corresponds to the low regressive phase from 50 ka BP to 18 ka BP. The sedimentary accumulative space is situated from the boundary of weathering crust to the 100 m water depth. In Ba Lat rivermouth area, the lowstand systems tract is dominated by the alluvial silty sand facies group (arLST); Transgressive systems tract (TST) in Ba Lat rivermouth area constitutes a lithofacies section including three facies in upward direction as follows: (1) Transgressive alluvial silty - sand facies (atTST). (2) Transgressive estuary sandy - mud facies (amtTST). (3) Lagoonal maximum transgressive greenish clay facies (mtTST); Highstand systems tract (HST) in the downstream Red river delta area constitutes a deltaic plain structure consisting of three parts: High subaerial delta, low subaerial delta and subaqueous delta, which had been formed from 5 ka BP.Đặc điểm tuớng đá - cổ địa lý trầm tích Pleistocen muộn-Holocen khu vực cửa sông Ba Lạt gắn liền với ba miền hệ thống trầm tích: Miền hệ thống trầm tích biển thấp (LST) tương ứng với pha biển thoái thấp từ 50.000 năm BP đến 18.000 năm cách ngày nay.
