Review of aerodynamic design in the Netherlands
Aerodynamic design activities in the Netherlands, which take place mainly at Fokker, the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), and Delft University of Technology (TUD), are discussed. The survey concentrates on the development of the Fokker 100 wing, glider design at TUD, and research at NLR in the field of aerodynamic design. Results are shown to illustrate these activities
On the application of a new version of lifting surface theory to nonslender and kinked wings
Results are presented which are obtained by a new elaborate method developed at NLR for the determination of the characteristics of thin wings in subsonic flow. Attention is paid to the rate of convergence of the numerical solutions, especially with respect to the number of collocation points. Two rectangular wings have been treated in order to examine the influence of the aspect ratio. The influence of the rounding of a kink is demonstrated by means of a series of constant chord wings with hyperbolic edges
Invariant manifolds and the long-time asymptotics of the Navier-Stokes and vorticity equations on R^2
We construct finite-dimensional invariant manifolds in the phase space of the
Navier-Stokes equation on R^2 and show that these manifolds control the
long-time behavior of the solutions. This gives geometric insight into the
existing results on the asymptotics of such solutions and also allows one to
extend those results in a number of ways.Comment: 46 pages, 3 figure
