    Study of Evacuation Behavior of Coastal Gulf of Mexico Residents

    In this study, we investigate the link between hurricane characteristics, demographics of the Coastal Gulf of Mexico residents, including their household location, and their respective evacuation behavior. Our study is significantly different from the previously made studies on hurricane evacuation behavior in two ways. At first, the research data is collected through recording responses to a series of hypothetical situations which are quite identical to the set of information that people are used to see during the hurricane season.     Price Volatility Spillover in Agricultural Markets: An Examination of U.S. Catfish Markets

    Price volatility spillovers in the U.S. catfish supply chain are analyzed based on monthly price data from 1980 through 2000 for catfish feed, its ingredients, and farm- and wholesale-level catfish. The exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (EGARCH) model was used to test univariate volatility spillovers for prices in the supply chain.     Recreational fishing is major industry and reasonably priced, high quality bait plays an important role in sustaining recreational fishing's popularity. This study provides a summary of Alabama's coastal live bait market including information on previous live bait studies and results of two surveys on the live bait shrimp, bull minnow and other bait markets. Results indicated there were periods of supply shortages, dealer willingness to pay more for shrimp that live longer and a dealers' use of multiple supply sources. Lost income was reported from not having live bait shrimp available for sale at peak demand periods. The economics of shrimp mariculture needs to be examined to determine its feasibility in augmenting the current supply of shrimp to the live bait industry.Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

    In this paper we compare results from an in-store field experiment and a mail survey choice experiment (CE) to investigate CE’s capacity in predicting grocery store market share. For the comparison, we used three seafood products: freshwater prawns, marine shrimp, and lobster. CE estimates were obtained via four econometric models: the conditional logit, the random parameter logit, the heteroskedastic extreme value, and the multinomial probit.     Validation of the Transformative Work in Society Index: Christianity, Work, and Economics Integration

    In recent years, concern for faith-work integration has evolved from a special interest to a sustained movement within workplace and ecclesiastical communities. This study’s purpose is to validate the Transformative Work in Society Index (TWSI) exploring Christian faith, work, and economics integration within the larger nomological net of workplace spirituality, organizational outcomes, and faith maturity measures. The TWSI incorporates the full affective, behavioral, and cognitive dimensions of what it means to be agentic human beings at work. A total of 405 participants who self-identified as Christians took part in this study (40.2% female; mean age = 46 years; mean as active Christian = 32 years). Results indicated that the 51-item TWSI is best characterized as a reflective four-factor model, which demonstrated a moderately good fit to the data: (c2[1212; N = 405] = 2881.551, p \u3c .001; CFI = .817; RMSEA = .058). Correlations between the more externally-oriented TWSI facets and the Faith at Work Scale (FWS) were more modest than the correlation between the TWSI Core (personal) dimension and the FWS, demonstrating that the TWSI taps broader themes than are often captured by existing faith-work measures. The TWSI facets significantly predicted Ethical Behavior, accounting for an additional 6.6% in overall variance. The TWSI also predicted Ethical Behavior and Faith Maturity above and beyond the FWS, further demonstrating its unique construct characteristics. Moreover, the TWSI Core (personal) dimension predicted contextual performance, accounting for an additional 9.8% in overall variance; the TWSI Behavioral sub-facet was predictive of both task and contextual performance, accounting for an additional 3.8% and 14% in overall variance, respectively. Lastly, the TWSI Core (personal) facet was predictive of intentions to leave a job, as were two of the externally-oriented TWSI factors, accounting for an additional 13.7% and 6.6% in overall variance, respectively. However, contrary to expectations, organization/person values alignment did not moderate the TWSI and turnover intentions relationship. Future research might further probe the TWSI’s multidimensionality, the unique expressions of integration across Christian traditions, other factors that might moderate and/or predict the faith-work and personal/organizational outcomes relationships, as well as effective pedagogical approaches for faith-work integration

    A Conductometric Study of the Reaction Velocity of Halodinitrobenzene with Piperidine

    The rates of reaction for 1-chloro-, 1-bromo-, and l-iodo-2,4-dinitrobenzene and piperidine in 95% ethanol were determined for various concentrations and temperatures by a conductometric process. An RC-18 Conductivity Bridge with an oscilloscope detector was found to be very satisfactory in the study. The specific rate constants gave the halogen reaction series Cl \u3e Br \u3e\u3e I at all temperatures and concentrations used. The conductometric method for determining reaction velocities has shown itself to be very effective since it allows continuous monitoring of the system thereby eliminating the necessity of a chemical analysis
