    Substructurability:The effect of interface location on a real-time dynamic substructuring test

    A full-scale experimental test for large and complex structures is not always achievable. This can be due to many reasons, the most prominent one being the size limitations of the test. Real-time dynamic substructuring is a hybrid testing method where part of the system is modelled numerically and the rest of the system is kept as the physical test specimen. The numerical–physical parts are connected via actuators and sensors and the interface is controlled by advanced algorithms to ensure that the tested structure replicates the emulated system with sufficient accuracy. The main challenge in such a test is to overcome the dynamic effects of the actuator and associated controller, that inevitably introduce delay into the substructured system which, in turn, can destabilize the experiment. To date, most research concentrates on developing control strategies for stable recreation of the full system when the interface location is given a priori. Therefore, substructurability is mostly studied in terms of control. Here, we consider the interface location as a parameter and study its effect on the stability of the system in the presence of delay due to actuator dynamics and define substructurability as the system’s tolerance to delay in terms of the different interface locations. It is shown that the interface location has a major effect on the tolerable delays in an experiment and, therefore, careful selection of it is necessary

    Malignant tumors found in children are different from the ones that occur in adults. Compared to the malignancies in adults, the histological entities in pediatric patients are different and survival rates are higher among the children. Though pediatric soft tissue sarcomas are less common than leukemia and central nervous system malignancies, recognition of them is necessary to start the therapy as soon as possible. The delay of an appropriate treatment - chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, in some cases targeted therapy - is unfavorable because somatic damages and functional loss can occur. In our study at the oncology department of the 2nd Department of Pediatrics of Semmelweis University, we collected and analyzed the data of 90 children who were diagnosed with soft tissue sarcomas between January of 2000 and November of 2016. Our results correlate with the data collected worldwide

    Global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reached an all-time high in 2010, rising 45% in the past 20 years. The rise of peoples’ concerns regarding environmental problems such as global warming and waste management problem has led to a movement to convert the current mass-production, mass-consumption, and mass-disposal type economic society into a sustainable society. The Rio Conference on Environment and Development in 1992, and other similar environmental milestone activities and happenings, documented the need for better and more detailed knowledge and information about environmental conditions, trends, and impacts. New thinking and research with regard to indicator frameworks, methodologies, and actual indicators are also needed. The value of the overall indicators depends on the production procedure of each material, and indicates their environmental impact. The use of “exergy indicators” based on the exergy content of materials and the use of the second law of thermodynamics in this work presents the relationship between exergy content and environmental impact
