Ozonoterapia em medicina dentária: revisão narrativa

Objetivos: Avaliar a aplicabilidade da Ozonoterapia em Medicina Dentária, averiguando as vantagens resultantes da utilização do ozono como suporte aos tratamentos dentários convencionais. Métodos: Pesquisa bibliográfica no PubMed, utilizando as palavras-chave ‘ozone and dentistery and therapy’, por tipo de artigo, estudos em humanos, artigos em Inglês entre 2016 e 2020. Excluídos estudos in vitro e em animais. Resultados: A Ozonoterapia parece ser promissora na redução bacteriana e biocompatibilidade, cicatrização, higiene oral, sensibilidade e irrigação de canais radiculares. Sem efeitos adicionais para a dor e terapia periodontal. O número reduzido de estudos foi uma limitação de análise. Conclusões: O ozono tem inúmeras aplicações na Medicina Dentária, atuando como agente bactericida, virucida, germicida, cicatrizante, regenerador, antioxidante e anti-inflamatório direto sobre a cavidade oral. A sua utilização é benéfica tanto aliada a procedimentos dentários convencionais como isoladamente. No entanto, sugere-se a expansão de novos e diferentes estudos criteriosos, com a finalidade de expandir e credibilizar a Ozonoterapia.Aims: Evaluate the applicability of ozone therapy in dentistry, investigating the advantages resulting from the use of ozone as support to conventional dental treatments. Methods: Bibliographic research in PubMed, using the keywords 'ozone and dentistry and therapy', by type of article, studies in humans, and articles in English published between 2016 and 2020. In vitro and animal studies excluded. Results: Ozone therapy appears to be promising in bacterial reduction and biocompatibility, healing, oral hygiene, sensitivity and root canal irrigation. Additional effects for pain and periodontal therapy were not found. The small number of studies was a limitation of the analysis. Conclusions: Ozone has numerous applications in Dentistry, being biocompatible and acting as an bactericide, virucidal, germicidal, healing, regenerating, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent directly on the oral cavity. Its use is beneficial both combined with conventional dental procedures and alone. However, the expansion of new and insightful studies is suggested, in order to expand and give credibility to ozone therapy
