The Japanese American Internment during World War II drastically altered the lives of over 120,000 people. At the Manzanar Relocation Center just four hours from Los Angeles, 11,000 people were imprisoned from the spring of 1942 to the fall of 1945. Internees maintained self-expression through the gardens of Manzanar using traditional Japanese gardening techniques to transform the barren landscape into one of beauty and communal space. Today, the gardens are being restored based on photographic record, which serve as symbolic representations of the emotion invoked from these spaces. Through photographs, interviews, and evidence gathered on site, a story has been written about the creators of these gardens, their families, and the bond of community they forged in the California desert

Arbitration, as well as other forms of alternative dispute resolution, provide many benefits for all parties when a dispute arises, such as faster results and less expense and time than litigation, and the potential for more qualified finders of fact on a specific topic rather than a jury of peers. In the following case note, Part II will focus on the background of different types of health insurance carriers in the United States, the Knox-Keene Act, and the California Assembly Bill 1611.20 Part III will discuss more specifically the issues that stem from balance billing through explicit cases. Part IV will explore current and proposed solutions to balance billing issues, comparing current legislation that includes arbitration to those offered in the federal arena. Finally, this note will conclude by reviewing the problem and acknowledging proposed solutions’ probabilities of being enacted and their impact on balance billing disputes

While prior scholarship on Japanese American Internment during World War II has been prolific, few have researched the role the natural environment played within the camps and the impact it had on the internees. Some scholars have supposed that the environment was chiefly a negative influence, like Connie Chiang, but few have studied the resourceful accomplishments of the internees in designing and cultivating gardens that reflected both their ancestral identity and contemporary American sensibility. Scholars such as Kenneth Helphand argued that the gardens were strictly an act of defiance. Others like David Neiwert lay claim to the Japanese immigrant enclave losing its sense of community during internment. This paper will discuss how, in actuality, through the gardens, the internees were able to convert their space from a form of social discipline into one of personal power and communal restitution

This diploma thesis focuses on the use of digital technologies in EFL lessons. It presents the results from research done at the primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic regarding digital technologies in EFL classes. The study provides a wide range of essential data for EFL teachers, including students' opinions, their ability to use digital technology, and their preferences and wishes. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou výuky českých studentů anglického jazyka redukovaným a neredukovaným formám anglických gramatických slov. Součástí práce je hloubkový rozhovor s PhDr. Dušanem Melenem, Ph.D., lingvistou a učitelem anglického jazyka, zaměřující se na jeho názory ohledně zařazení redukovaných forem gramatických slov do výuky anglického jazyka pro české studenty. Názory odborníků z oblasti výuky anglického jazyka a čtyř učitelů angličtiny ze základních škol v České Lípě a střední školy v Mimoni byly porovnány s názory doktora Melena. Cílem výzkumu bylo zhodnotit dovednosti studentů v rozlišování redukovaných a neredukovaných forem a ověřit schopnosti studentů k použití těchto forem v mluveném projevu. Výsledky diagnostického testu ukazují na výhody začlenění výuky redukovaných forem do výuky angličtiny pro české studenty. Na základě získaných dat, rozhovorů a výsledků diagnostického testu byly v závěru práce nastíněny návrhy na způsoby implementace redukovaných forem do výuky angličtiny. The topic of this bachelor's thesis is teaching weak and strong forms of English grammatical words to Czech learners of English. An in-depth interview with PhDr. Dušan Melen, Ph.D., a linguist and a teacher of English, was conducted regarding his views about the teaching of weak forms to native speakers of Czech. The opinions of experts in teaching English and four teachers from my primary school in Česká Lípa and the secondary school in Mimoň about teaching the weak forms were connected to Melen's statements. The thesis is trying to ascertain how much information can be gained regarding the students understanding of weak forms using the online diagnostic test. I carried out a diagnostic test on the students of a phonetics and phonology course in the undergraduate programme at the Faculty of Science, Humanities and Education at the Technical University of Liberec. The content of the diagnostic test focused on collecting data regarding the abilities of the students at listening comprehension as well as their use of the weak forms in spoken English. The aim of the research is, therefore, to illustrate how well students are able to recognize the difference between weak and strong forms. It illustrates whether these particular students of English are capable of using those forms correctly. The results demonstrated the advantages of teaching the weak and strong forms to Czech EFL learners. Based on research data, that is, the interview, the results of the test, and the survey, suggestions for teaching weak forms were made
