The inside outs of AdS 3 /CFT 2 : exact AdS wormholes with entangled CFT duals
We present the complete family of solutions of 3D gravity (Λ < 0) with two asymptotically AdS exterior regions. The solutions are constructed from data at the two boundaries, which correspond to two independent and arbitrary stress tensors T R , T − R , and T L , T − L . The two exteriors are smoothly joined on to an interior region through a regular horizon. We find CFT duals of these geometries which are entangled states of two CFT’s. We compute correlators between general operators at the two boundaries and find perfect agreement between CFT and bulk calculations. We calculate and match the CFT entanglement entropy (EE) with the holographic EE which involves geodesics passing through the wormhole. We also compute a holographic, non-equilibrium entropy for the CFT using properties of the regular horizon. The construction of the bulk solutions here uses an exact version of Brown-Henneaux type diffeomorphisms which are asymptotically nontrivial and transform the CFT states by two independent unitary operators on the two sides. Our solutions provide an infinite family of explicit examples of the ER=EPR relation of Maldacena and Susskind [1]
Thermalization with chemical potentials, and higher spin black holes
We study the long time behaviour of local observables following a quantum quench in 1+1 dimensional conformal field theories possessing additional conserved charges besides the energy. We show that the expectation value of an arbitrary string of local ob-servables supported on a finite interval exponentially approaches an equilibrium value. The equilibrium is characterized by a temperature and chemical potentials defined in terms of the quenched state. For an infinite number of commuting conserved charges, the equilibrium ensemble is a generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE). We compute the thermalization rate in a systematic perturbation in the chemical potentials, using a new technique to sum over an infinite number of Feynman diagrams. The above technique also allows us to compute relaxation times for thermal Green’s functions in the presence of an arbitrary number of chemical potentials. In the context of a higher spin (hs[λ]) holography, the partition function of the final equilibrium GGE is known to agree with that of a higher spin black hole. The thermalization rate from the CFT computed in our paper agrees with the quasinormal frequency of a scalar field in this black hole
On the entanglement entropy for gauge theories
We propose a definition for the entanglement entropy of a gauge theory on a spatial lattice. Our definition applies to any subset of links in the lattice, and is valid for both Abelian and Non-Abelian gauge theories. For ℤ N and U(1) theories, without matter, our definition agrees with a particular case of the definition given by Casini, Huerta and Rosabal. We also argue that in general, both for Abelian and Non-Abelian theories, our definition agrees with the entanglement entropy calculated using a definition of the replica trick. Our definition, however, does not agree with some standard ways to measure entanglement, like the number of Bell pairs which can be produced by entanglement distillation
Enhancing sensitivity to neutrino parameters at INO combining muon and hadron information
The proposed ICAL experiment at INO aims to identify the neutrino mass hierarchy from observations of atmospheric neutrinos, and help improve the precision on the atmospheric neutrino mixing parameters. While the design of ICAL is primarily optimized to measure muon momentum, it is also capable of measuring the hadron energy in each event. Although the hadron energy is measured with relatively lower resolution, it nevertheless contains crucial information on the event, which may be extracted when taken concomitant with the muon data. We demonstrate that by adding the hadron energy information to the muon energy and muon direction in each event, the sensitivity of ICAL to the neutrino parameters can be improved significantly. Using the realistic detector response for ICAL, we present its enhanced reach for determining the neutrino mass hierarchy, the atmospheric mass squared difference and the mixing angle θ 23 , including its octant. In particular, we show that the analysis that uses hadron energy information can distinguish the normal and inverted mass hierarchies with Δχ 2 ≈9 with 10 years exposure at the 50 kt ICAL, which corresponds to about 40% improvement over the muon-only analysis
Stable Bianchi III attractor in U(1) R gauged supergravity
Bianchi attractors are homogeneous but anisotropic extremal black brane horizons. We study the AdS 3 × ℍ 2 solution which is a special case of Bianchi type III in a U(1) R gauged supergravity. For a wide range of values for certain free parameters in gauged supergravity, there exist a large class of solutions that satisfy conditions for the attractor mechanism to hold. We investigate the response of the solution against linearized fluctuations of the scalar field. The sufficient conditions for the attractor mechanism ensure that there exist a solution for the scalar fluctuation which dies out at the horizon. Furthermore, we solve for the gauge field and metric fluctuations that are sourced by scalar fluctuations and show that they are well behaved near the horizon. Thus, we have an example of a stable Bianchi attractor in gauged supergravity. We also analyze the Killing spinor equations of gauged supergravity in the background of our solution. We find that a radial Killing spinor consistent with the Bianchi III symmetry breaks supersymmetry
Unitarity, crossing symmetry and duality of the S-matrix in large N Chern-Simons theories with fundamental matter
We present explicit computations and conjectures for 2 → 2 scattering matrices in large N U( N ) Chern-Simons theories coupled to fundamental bosonic or fermionic matter to all orders in the ’t Hooft coupling expansion. The bosonic and fermionic S-matrices map to each other under the recently conjectured Bose-Fermi duality after a level-rank transposition. The S-matrices presented in this paper may be regarded as relativistic generalization of Aharonov-Bohm scattering. They have unusual structural features: they include a non-analytic piece localized on forward scattering, and obey modified crossing symmetry rules. We conjecture that these unusual features are properties of S-matrices in all Chern-Simons matter theories. The S-matrix in one of the exchange channels in our paper has an anyonic character; the parameter map of the conjectured Bose-Fermi duality may be derived by equating the anyonic phase in the bosonic and fermionic theories
Constraints from conformal symmetry on the three point scalar correlator in inflation
Using symmetry considerations, we derive Ward identities which relate the three point function of scalar perturbations produced during inflation to the scalar four point function, in a particular limit. The derivation assumes approximate conformal invariance, and the conditions for the slow roll approximation, but is otherwise model independent. The Ward identities allow us to deduce that the three point function must be suppressed in general, being of the same order of magnitude as in the slow roll model. They also fix the three point function in terms of the four point function, upto one constant which we argue is generically suppressed. Our approach is based on analyzing the wave function of the universe, and the Ward identities arise by imposing the requirements of spatial and time reparametrization invariance on it
Can Effective Field Theory of inflation generate large tensor-to-scalar ratio within Randall–Sundrum single braneworld?
In this paper my prime objective is to explain the generation of large tensor-to-scalar ratio from the single field sub-Planckian inflationary paradigm within Randall–Sundrum (RS) single braneworld scenario in a model independent fashion. By explicit computation I have shown that the effective field theory prescription of brane inflation within RS single brane setup is consistent with sub-Planckian excursion of the inflaton field, which will further generate large value of tensor-to-scalar ratio, provided the energy density for inflaton degrees of freedom is high enough compared to the brane tension in high energy regime. Finally, I have mentioned the stringent theoretical constraint on positive brane tension, cut-off of the quantum gravity scale and bulk cosmological constant to get sub-Planckian field excursion along with large tensor-to-scalar ratio as recently observed by BICEP2 or at least generates the tensor-to-scalar ratio consistent with the upper bound of Planck (2013 and 2015) data and Planck+BICEP2+Keck Array joint constraint
Poles in the S-matrix of relativistic Chern-Simons matter theories from quantum mechanics
An all orders formula for the S-matrix for 2 → 2 scattering in large N Chern-Simons theory coupled to a fundamental scalar has recently been conjectured. We find a scaling limit of the theory in which the pole in this S-matrix is near threshold. We argue that the theory must be well described by non-relativistic quantum mechanics in this limit, and determine the relevant Schroedinger equation. We demonstrate that the S-matrix obtained from this Schroedinger equation agrees perfectly with this scaling limit of the relativistic S-matrix; in particular the pole structures match exactly. We view this matching as a nontrivial consistency check of the conjectured field theory S-matrix
Conformal invariance and the four point scalar correlator in slow-roll inflation
We calculate the four point correlation function for scalar perturbations in the canonical model of slow-roll inflation. We work in the leading slow-roll approximation where the calculation can be done in de Sitter space. Our calculation uses techniques drawn from the AdS/CFT correspondence to find the wave function at late times and then calculate the four point function from it. The answer we get agrees with an earlier result in the literature, obtained using different methods. Our analysis reveals a subtlety with regard to the Ward identities for conformal invariance, which arises in de Sitter space and has no analogue in AdS space. This subtlety arises because in de Sitter space the metric at late times is a genuine degree of freedom, and hence to calculate correlation functions from the wave function of the Universe at late times, one must fix gauge completely. The resulting correlators are then invariant under a conformal transformation accompanied by a compensating coordinate transformation which restores the gauge
