On relative tt-designs in polynomial association schemes

Motivated by the similarities between the theory of spherical $t$-designs and that of $t$-designs in $Q$-polynomial association schemes, we study two versions of relative $t$-designs, the counterparts of Euclidean $t$-designs for $P$- and/or $Q$-polynomial association schemes. We develop the theory based on the Terwilliger algebra, which is a noncommutative associative semisimple $\mathbb{C}$-algebra associated with each vertex of an association scheme. We compute explicitly the Fisher type lower bounds on the sizes of relative $t$-designs, assuming that certain irreducible modules behave nicely. The two versions of relative $t$-designs turn out to be equivalent in the case of the Hamming schemes. ATP-dependent reversible association of proteasomes with multiple protein components to form 26S complexes that degrade ubiquitinated proteins in human HL-60 cells

AbstractThe role of proteasomes in ubiquitin (Ub)-dependent protein degradation was studied by analyzing lysates of human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells by glycerol density gradient centrifugation. High succinyl-Leu-Leu-Val-Tyr-4-methylcoumaryl-7-amide hydrolyzing activity was found in the 26S fraction, whereas the 20S fraction containing proteaomes had no activity. Addition of 0.05% sodium dodecylsulfate to the latter fraction, however, induced marked activity. The 26S, but not the 20S fraction catalyzed ATP-dependent degradation of [125I]lysozyme-Ub conjugate. Depletion from the lysate of ATP caused complete shift of the active 26S complex to the latent 20S form, whereas in the lysate prepared from ATP-depleted cells, ATP converted 20S proteasomes to 26S complexes. The immunoprecipitated 26S complexes were found to consist of proteasomes and 13–15 other proteins ranging in size from 35 to 110 kDa. We conclude that in the lysate, latent proteasomes undergo reversible, ATP-dependent association with multiple protein components to form 26S complexes that catalyze ATP-dependent degradation of Ub-protein conjugates

Development of bed-building behaviors in captive chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes): Implication for critical period hypothesis and captive management

Wild great apes build beds for sleeping by combining tree branches or other vegetation, but the development of this behavior is poorly understood. We investigated the development of bed-building behaviors by conducting complementary cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of captive chimpanzees. In the cross-sectional study, we created an ethogram of behaviors related to bed-building by observing 59 chimpanzees living at the Kumamoto Sanctuary, Kyoto University, and the Kyoto City Zoo. In the longitudinal study, we installed bed-building platforms, provided branches on the platforms on a regular basis, and recorded behaviors of five chimpanzees (including an infant born in 2013) over a 3-year period from February 2015 to February 2018 at the Kyoto City Zoo (total 490.7 h). We found that all the chimpanzees performed some form of bed-building behavior but wild-born chimpanzees possessed more sophisticated techniques than captive-born chimpanzees. We also found that although the offspring of a wild-born female only showed simple techniques at the beginning of the longitudinal study, his repertoire of bed-building behaviors became as complex as that of his mother by the age of five. Our results suggest that improved bed-building behaviors can be supported in captive-born great apes by providing learning opportunities during appropriate stages of development

Successful management of placenta percreta by cesarean hysterectomy with transverse uterine fundal incision

Placenta accreta presents one of the highest risks to pregnancy, and its more severe variant, placenta percreta, is particularly risky. The incidence of both conditions is increasing. Placenta percreta requires a cesarean hysterectomy for management, but the challenges associated with this surgery often result in severe obstetric hemorrhaging and high rates of maternal morbidity. Several recent obstetric studies have reported on the usefulness of the transverse uterine fundal incision for the management of placenta accreta and its variants. However, these reports included only a few cases of placenta percreta. Here we present a case of placenta percreta covering the anterior uterine wall that was successfully managed using a transverse fundal incision, which avoided incising the placenta at delivery and thus reduced maternal blood loss. After delivery, the patient underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy without the need for a blood transfusion. We conclude that a transverse uterine fundal incision can be very useful for the management of placenta percreta of the anterior uterine wall

An Autopsy Case of Drowning Under the Influence of Etizolam: A Case Report

A fatal case of drowning under the influence of etizolam is presented. Quantitative toxicological analysis revealed etizolam concentrations of 0.50 µg/mL and 0.068 µg/mL in femoral venous blood and urine, respectively. According to the autopsy findings, the results of toxicological examinations, and the investigation by the authorities, it is concluded that the cause of death is drowning under the influence of etizolam

Familial Case of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) with Similar Onset and HLA Analysis

Subjects: Cases are two patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), with the characteristic relationship and onset situation. Case 1 is 46-year-old daughter and case 2 is 69-year-old mother. They have been living apart and they rarely meet together. Twenty-two months after the onset of T1DM case 1, case 2 also developed T1DM. They did not notice clinical manifestation of upper respiratory infection, or they did not have any stressful matters before the onset of T1DM. Results: Their data in case 1 vs 2 were as follows: BMI 21.3 vs 19.8, HbA1c 10.3% vs 9.8%, anti-IA-2 antibody (IA-2 Ab) 2.1 vs 6.0 (<0.4), anti-GAD antibody (GAD Ab) 24 vs 10000 (<1.5), HLA-DR type DR9 / DR13 vs DR4/DR13. Discussion and conclusion: These 2 cases have characteristic mode for the onset of T1DM. In Japanese race, DR4 and DR9 have rather high sensitivity for T1DM, DR15 (DR2) has resistance for T1DM and DR13 has unremarkable influence. From these, HLA-DR type would be possible involved in the onset of T1DM, and further investigation would be expected

Effective Xultophy administration to stable blood glucose profile by Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) need adequate diet, exercise and pharmacotherapy. Authors have continued diabetic practice and research on low carbohydrate diet (LCD), calorie restriction (CR), continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and so on. The case is 50-year-old female patient with T2DM for 10 years. She has received insulin treatment with recent HbA1c 7.4 – 8.7%, then her glucose profile was studied on CGM by FreeStyle Libre. Treatment was changed from Glargine 15 units (until day 5) to Zultophy10-12 doses (after day 6), then her glucose variability showed remarkably improved. The average blood glucose on day 3, 5, 6, 8,10,13 was 174, 164, 125, 111, 101, 98 mg/dL, respectively. FreeStyle Libre showed estimated HbA1c as 6.2% and 44 mmol/mol
