Face Theory Embodied in Chinese Speech Act

    Get PDF
Face theory is an influential theory used to discuss and explain politeness phenomenon, which is based on the western culture. This essay probes into the face theory embodied in the speech act under the background of Chinese culture. The aim of the comparison between face theory in western culture and in Chinese culture is to remove obstacles caused by cultural differences, promote cross-cultural communication and strengthen the awareness of the value of face theory in Chinese culture

Research on the Cultural Zigong from the Perspective of One Belt and One Road Initiative

    Get PDF
In the year of 2011, the development goal of constructing Five Zigong was put forward by the local authority of Zigong, which is a prefecture-level city of Sichuan Province and located in the southwest of People's Republic of China. Five Zigong is associated with five aspects, including industry, ecology, culture, innovation and happiness. In the year of 2013, Chinese president Xi Jinping put forward the One Belt and One Road Initiative. This paper analyses how to construct cultural Zigong from the perspective of One Belt and One Road Initiative

Application of Micro Learning Resource in College English ESP Teaching

    Get PDF
After joining WTO, China strengthens its external communication and the demand for talents qualified for foreign exchange expands as well. Under this background, many universities began to increase the training talents qualified for foreign exchange, ESP(English for specific purposes) teaching came into being and even became one part to implement the China's Bringing in and Going Out strategy. With the development of the era, the traditional mode of College English teaching has been restrained, and can not fully improve the quality of teaching.Based on the analysis of the current development of English teaching, this paper probes into the current application of micro learning resource in College English ESP teaching and its necessity and significance and provides reference for enhancing the application of micro learning resource

An Analysis Report of College English Classroom Teaching in the Grading Model

    Get PDF
Based on data collected from Grade 2015 and Grade 2016, the present article mainly analyzes current situations of the grading model being implemented in a west provincial university. As frontline teachers, we cannot participate in the decision of which model to use, but can try our best to conduct frequent reflection and make necessary changes in classroom teaching for the good of college students’ achievements in English course. Due mostly to the limitations of one teacher’s first-hand experience, the research seems hard to hold water, and more are expected to participate in this topic. Only by means of active exploration and generous contributions from all teachers and educators concerned, will China College English be improved and productive in developing all-around talents needed for the realization of Chinese dreams

Language Norm in Various Stages of English Learning in Mainland China

    Get PDF
The concept of norm itself means certain restriction, restraint and guidance. Due to the role of norm, people can correctly understand and use the language, abide by the social behavioral norms and obtain effective knowledge. Language norm as a social phenomenon, just like other social phenomena, such as morality, consciousness and custom, is a natural presentation of the convergence of the social group behaviors. Different stages of English learning have different teaching objectives and the emphasis of language norm should be different. Research on the language norms in various stages of English learning is based on the aim of conducting effective communication. Corresponding restriction, restraint and guidance based on the real situation of the students is to help the students conduct the cross-cultural communication more smoothly

Present Language Using in the Publicity of Sichuan Liquor

    Get PDF
Ancient Sichuan liquor culture is a miracle in Chinese liquor culture. Representatives of Sichuan liquor, such as Wuliangye, Jiannanchun, Luzhou Laojiao, Tuopai and Langjiu, make up almost half of the famous liquor brands in China. This paper is an initial attempt to introduce the language used in the publicity of Sichuan liquor brands and it aims to spread the Sichuan liquor culture and let people around the world know more about Sichuan liquor

    Experimental Study of Ultralight (<300 kg/m 3

    Get PDF
A type of ultralight (<300 kg/m3) foamed concrete (FC), which can be used as a new energy-conservation and environmental-protection building material and is particularly suitable for the thermal-insulation engineering of building external walls, was produced. The influences of different mixing amounts of fly ash, fly ash activator, WC (WC) ratio, and foaming agent (FA) on the compressive strength of FC were reported. The experimental study indicated that (1) the addition of fly ash reduced the strength of the FC and that the appropriate mixing amount of fly ash in this ultralight FC system should not exceed 45%; (2) with the increasing of fly ash activator, the strength of the FC sample is notably enhanced and the appropriate mixing amount of fly ash activator is 2.5%; (3) the optimized proportion of WC ratio is 0.45, and the FC that was produced according to this proportion has relatively high compressive strength; (4) by increasing the mixing amount of FA, the compressive strength of the FC notably decreases, and the optimal mixing amount of FA in this experiment is 3.5%

Product evaluation on the Chinese language program for international students in a Chinese university

    Get PDF
HanyuShuipingKaoshi (HSK) is an international standardized test, which means Chinese Proficiency Test in English. A minimum of HSK level 4 is needed for an international student to apply for an academic programme taught in Chinese language in the universities of China. Guided by product evaluation of Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) model, the test scores of HSK level 4 of the international students in a Chinese university are analyzed using effect size. Feedbacks from the international students who failed in the test of HSK level 4 are collected based on a questionnaire formulated by the researchers. The strengths, weaknesses, causes of failure and improving direction of the one academic year’s Chinese language program in this Chinese university are identified through the evaluation. The research aims to provide references for the improvement of Chinese language teaching in this Chinese university and universities with the same context. The research enriches the literature concerning the evaluation on Chinese language teaching and learning for international students in China

On explosive boiling of a multicomponent Leidenfrost drop

    Get PDF
The gasification of multicomponent fuel drops is relevant in various energy-related technologies. An interesting phenomenon associated with this process is the self-induced explosion of the drop, producing a multitude of smaller secondary droplets, which promotes overall fuel atomization and, consequently, improves the combustion efficiency and reduces emissions of liquid-fueled engines. Here, we study a unique explosive gasification process of a tricomponent droplet consisting of water, ethanol, and oil ("ouzo"), by high-speed monitoring of the entire gasification event taking place in the well-controlled, levitated Leidenfrost state over a superheated plate. It is observed that the preferential evaporation of the most volatile component, ethanol, triggers nucleation of the oil microdroplets/nanodroplets in the remaining drop, which, consequently, becomes an opaque oil-in-water microemulsion. The tiny oil droplets subsequently coalesce into a large one, which, in turn, wraps around the remnant water. Because of the encapsulating oil layer, the droplet can no longer produce enough vapor for its levitation, and, thus, falls and contacts the superheated surface. The direct thermal contact leads to vapor bubble formation inside the drop and consequently drop explosion in the final stage.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
