    The Philosophy Teaching Assessment System and Its Enlightenments of British Universities

    As a basic element of the university teaching quality monitoring, teaching assessment has become an indispensable part of university teaching management. Only by ensuring its effectiveness can teach assessment promote university teaching quality. As a basic discipline in the UK higher education, philosophy is the investigation of those very general and fundamental questions which are about about knowledge, reality, mind, morality, logic, language, reasoning, politics art, and value, and these question have drawn attention, The University of Oxford and University of Cambridge are the two most well-known university which are called the “crown” of UK higher education. This paper mainly takes Oxford and Cambridge as the cases of study, which is based on the two external and internal quality assurance systems of UK higher education, The study sums up the commonalities and  particularities of standards for the philosophy teaching assessment of the two British universities and analyzes the organization and implementation, aiming to obtain a deeper understanding of it, and points out its enlightenments for the quality assessment of higher education in China.

    Metabonomic Profiles Delineate the Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine Sini Decoction on Myocardial Infarction in Rats

    Background: In spite of great advances in target-oriented Western medicine for treating myocardial infarction (MI), it is still a leading cause of death in a worldwide epidemic. In contrast to Western medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) uses a holistic and synergistic approach to restore the balance of Yin-Yang of body energy so the body’s normal function can be restored. Sini decoction (SND) is a well-known formula of TCM which has been used to treat MI for many years. However, its holistic activity evaluation and mechanistic understanding are still lacking due to its complex components. Methodology/Principal Findings: A urinary metabonomic method based on nuclear magnetic resonance and ultra highperformance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was developed to characterize MI-related metabolic profiles and delineate the effect of SND on MI. With Elastic Net for classification and selection of biomarkers, nineteen potential biomarkers in rat urine were screened out, primarily related to myocardial energy metabolism, including the glycolysis, citrate cycle, amino acid metabolism, purine metabolism and pyrimidine metabolism. With the altered metabolism pathways as possible drug targets, we systematically analyze the therapeutic effect of SND, which demonstrated that SND administration could provide satisfactory effect on MI through partially regulating the perturbed myocardial energy metabolism.     Potential Biomarkers in Mouse Myocardium of Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiomyopathy: A Metabonomic Method and Its Application

    BACKGROUND: Doxorubicin (DOX) is one of the most potent antitumor agents available; however, its clinical use is limited because of the risk of severe cardiotoxicity. Though numerous studies have ascribed DOX cardiomyopathy to specific cellular pathways, the precise mechanism remains obscure. Sini decoction (SND) is a well-known formula of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is considered as efficient agents against DOX-induced cardiomyopathy. However, its action mechanisms are not well known due to its complex components. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: A tissue-targeted metabonomic method using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was developed to characterize the metabolic profile of DOX-induced cardiomyopathy in mice. With Elastic Net for classification and selection of biomarkers, twenty-four metabolites corresponding to DOX-induced cardiomyopathy were screened out, primarily involving glycolysis, lipid metabolism, citrate cycle, and some amino acids metabolism. With these altered metabolic pathways as possible drug targets, we systematically analyzed the protective effect of TCM SND, which showed that SND administration could provide satisfactory effect on DOX-induced cardiomyopathy through partially regulating the perturbed metabolic pathways. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: The results of the present study not only gave rise to a systematic view of the development of DOX-induced cardiomyopathy but also provided the theoretical basis to prevent or modify expected damage

    Anxiety, depression, psychological stress and coping style in medical postgraduates in southeastern China when restricted to commuting between the campus and hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic

    BackgroundAs the COVID-19 epidemic was gradually brought under control, a new autumn semester began in 2020. How was the mental health of postgraduates as they experienced quarantine at home, only commuting between the school and hospital?MethodsThe research was conducted in a cross-sectional online survey in October 2020. The data were collected from 1,645 medical postgraduates (master’s and doctoral students) by using the demographic information questionnaire, the Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), the Questionnaire on Psychological Stressors of Postgraduates (QPSP), the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) and the Social Support Rate Scale (SSRS). One-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation were used to explore the relationships among anxiety, depression, psychological stressors, social support and coping style. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to assess the mediation model.ResultsAmong the total of 1,645 medical postgraduates, 21.6% (n = 356) had self-rated depression symptoms, and 9.4% (n = 155) had self-rated anxiety symptoms. The main disturbances they experienced were employment, academic and interpersonal pressure. The master of third grade students had the highest employment pressure, and the master of second grade students had the highest academic and interpersonal pressure. Negative coping played a negative mediating role and social support played a positive mediating role in the relationships between perceived stress and anxiety (β = 0.027, P < 0.01; β = 0.124, P < 0.01) and depression (β = 0.016, P < 0.01; β = 0.193, P < 0.01).ConclusionMedical postgraduates in China restricted to studies on campus and in the hospital experienced psychological distress. Our results suggest that providing employment and learning guidance, while strengthening social support and guiding positive coping may be effective at improving the mental health of the medical graduate students, mediating their perceived stress and negative emotions

    Scoring System for Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes and Its Prognostic Value for Gastric Cancer

    The tumor microenvironment (TME) is the internal environment of malignant tumor progression, and the host antitumor immune response and normal tissue destruction occur in the TME. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) is a crucial component of the TME and reflect the host antitumor immune response. The purpose of this study was to discuss the methodology for TIL evaluation and assess the prognostic value of TIL in gastric cancer. In total, we reviewed 1,033 gastrectomy cases between 2002 and 2008 at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University. To understand the prognostic value of TIL in gastric cancer (GC), TIL were assessed by optical microscopy, and verified by immunohistochemistry. There is no current consensus on TIL scoring in GC. In this study, we discussed a TIL evaluation system that includes an analysis of the amount and percentage of TIL in a tumor. Ultimately, 439 (52.7%) cases showed high levels of TIL and 394 (47.3%) cases had low levels. There was a statistically significant relationship among TIL, tumor size, histological grade, LN metastasis, nerve invasion, tumor thrombus, pTN stage, and WHO subtypes (p < 0.001, respectively). TILhi was a positive significant predictor of overall survival (OS) in Kaplan–Meier survival analysis (P < 0.001) and multivariate Cox regression analysis (HR = 0.431, 95% CI: 0.347–0.534, P < 0.001). After surgery, patients with malignant tumors underwent chemoradiotherapy according to standard therapeutic guidelines based on TNM stage. The TNM scoring system cannot reflect the full information of TME; therefore, TIL can be used as a diagnostic supplement. We constructed a nomogram model that showed more predictive accuracy for OS than pTN stage. In summary, this study proves that high levels of TIL are associated with a positive prognosis and that TIL reflect the protective host antitumor immune response

    Defect-Rich Heterogeneous MoS2/rGO/NiS Nanocomposite for Efficient pH-Universal Hydrogen Evolution

    Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been universally demonstrated to be an effective electrocatalytic catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, the low conductivity, few active sites and poor stability of MoS2-based electrocatalysts hinder its hydrogen evolution performance in a wide pH range. The introduction of other metal phases and carbon materials can create rich interfaces and defects to enhance the activity and stability of the catalyst. Herein, a new defect-rich heterogeneous ternary nanocomposite consisted of MoS2, NiS and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) are synthesized using ultrathin αNi(OH)2 nanowires as the nickel source. The MoS2/rGO/NiS-5 of optimal formulation in 0.5 M H2SO4, 1.0 M KOH and 1.0 M PBS only requires 152, 169 and 209 mV of overpotential to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2 (denoted as η10), respectively. The excellent HER performance of the MoS2/rGO/NiS-5 electrocatalyst can be ascribed to the synergistic effect of abundant heterogeneous interfaces in MoS2/rGO/NiS, expanded interlayer spacings, and the addition of high conductivity graphene oxide. The method reported here can provide a new idea for catalyst with Ni-Mo heterojunction, pH-universal and inexpensive hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalyst

    Low- and high-thermogenic brown adipocyte subpopulations coexist in murine adipose tissue

    Brown adipose tissue (BAT), as the main site of adaptive thermogenesis, exerts beneficial metabolic effects on obesity and insulin resistance. BAT has been previously assumed to contain a homogeneous population of brown adipocytes. Utilizing multiple mouse models capable of genetically labeling different cellular populations, as well as single-cell RNA sequencing and 3D tissue profiling, we discovered a new brown adipocyte subpopulation with low thermogenic activity coexisting with the classical high-thermogenic brown adipocytes within the BAT. Compared with the high-thermogenic brown adipocytes, these low-thermogenic brown adipocytes had substantially lower Ucp1 and Adipoq expression, larger lipid droplets, and lower mitochondrial content. Functional analyses showed that, unlike the high-thermogenic brown adipocytes, the low-thermogenic brown adipocytes have markedly lower basal mitochondrial respiration, and they are specialized in fatty acid uptake. Upon changes in environmental temperature, the 2 brown adipocyte subpopulations underwent dynamic interconversions. Cold exposure converted low-thermogenic brown adipocytes into high-thermogenic cells. A thermoneutral environment had the opposite effect. The recruitment of high-thermogenic brown adipocytes by cold stimulation is not affected by high fat diet feeding, but it does substantially decline with age.
