    E-learning in mathematics education: A bibliometric analysis (2012-2022)

    This study aims to create a comprehensive bibliometric map of published scientific articles on e-learning in mathematics education (ME). We used Web of Science (WoS) database to analyzed 341 articles published by 1018 authors representing 79 countries between 2012 and 2022. In this context, we examined scientific articles in terms of scientific production, network analysis, trend topics, thematic change, and conceptual structure. Bibliometric analysis was performed in the study. According to findings, the number of published articles differ according to the years, but the number of citations is constantly increasing. Albano, and Dello Iacono are the most prolific authors. The most productive institutions are Salerno and Black Sea Technical Universities. China, USA, and Russia lead the countries of the corresponding authors. According to the network analysis, the journals of Computers & Education and Computers in Human Behavior form strong links. The most used keywords are students, technology, and mathematics. The pandemic, covid, reality, and process are trend topic titles. It determined that the best size reduction obtained in the conceptual analysis constituted approximately 31% of the total variability. We presented some suggestions based on the findings obtained at the end of the research

    Mathematical modelling: A retrospective overview

    This study aims to comprehensively view the scientific articles published on mathematical modelling (MM) before 2023. In this context, analyzed articles published on MM with bibliometric analysis under four main headings; scientific productivity, network analysis, conceptual structure, and thematic map. The Web of Science database was used to analyze 906 articles published by 2039 authors representing 68 countries from 1981 to 2023. According to the study's findings, the articles published on MM differ yearly, but the number of citations is constantly increasing. Erbas, A. K., Schukajlow, S., and Kaiser, G. are the most productive authors. The most productive institutions are Purdue, Australian Catholic, and Hamburg Universities. According to the network analysis, the journals ZDM Mathematics Education and Educational Studies in Mathematics come to the fore. It was determined that the best size reduction obtained in the conceptual analysis constituted approximately 44% of the total variability.     Investigation of the relationships between e-learning styles, educational technology self-efficacy perceptions and problem-solving skills of preservice elementary mathematics teachers'

    This study aims to determine the relationship between pre-service elementary mathematics teachers' e-learning styles, educational technology self-efficacy perceptions, and problem-solving skills. The sample of the study, in which the relational screening model was used, consists of 150 pre-service teachers studying in a state university's elementary mathematics teaching department. Of the participants, 68% (n=102) were female and 32% (n=48) were male. Data collection tools, e-learning styles, education technology self-efficacy, and measurement tools consisting of non-routine problems were used to determine problem-solving skills and an information form. Pearson product-moment correlation technique and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data set. According to the study's findings, significant relationships were determined between the sub-dimensions of e-learning styles, education technology selfefficacy, and problem-solving skills. Predictive variables consisting of sub-dimensions of e-learning styles and education technology self-efficacy explained 36% of the variance of the problem-solving skill. At the same time, audio-visual learning, verbal learning, active learning, logical learning, modeling digital-age work and learning, designing and developing digital-age learning experiences and assessments, and engaging in professional growth and leadership variables were effective in problem-solving.     A Case of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease Associated With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

    We report a female patient diagnosed as Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). She has diagnosed as VKH with diminished vision, bilateral serous retinal detachment, the signs of fundus fluorescein angiography and the findings of optical coherence tomography. The patient was referred to the gynecology clinic for her complaints as weight gain, hirsutismus and amenorrhea. She has also been diagnosed with PCOS. With oral steroid treatment, visual acuity has improved and the detachments have resolved within a month. VKH disease may be associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. The two conditions may have a common autoimmune pathogenesis

    Askin's Tumor in an Adult: Case Report and Findings on 18F-FDG PET/CT

    Primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of the chest wall or Askin's tumor is a rare neoplasm of chest wall. It most often affects children and adolescents and is a very rare tumor in adults. In this case report, we present an Askin's tumor occurred in a 73-year-old male. The patient was admitted with a history of 3-month lower back pain and cough. In computed tomography, there was a lesion with dimensions of 70 × 40 × 65 mm in the superior segment of the lower lobe of the left lung. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography with 18F-flourodeoxyglucose revealed a pleural-based tumor in the left lung with a maximum standardized uptake value of 4.36. No distant or lymph node metastases were present. The patient had gone through surgery, and wedge resection of the superior segment of left lobe and partial resection of the ipsilateral ribs were performed. Pathology report with immunocytochemistry was consistent with PNET and the patient received chemotherapy after that

    The long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children with ADHD in terms of participation, support, and barriers at home

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on participation, support, and barriers at home in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and without ADHD. Design and methods: This study included a total of 227 participants with a mean age of 11.93 ± 2.96 years, comprising 116 children and adolescents with ADHD and 111 without ADHD. The parents or primary caregivers of all the children completed the Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth (PEM-CY), which was used to assess participation and environmental factors in the home. The Student's t-test was used to compare numeric data and Chi-square test to categorical data between children and adolescents with ADHD and those without ADHD in all three settings. Results: The children with ADHD were determined to play computer and video games significantly more than children without ADHD (p < 0.001). The mean frequency of participation in arts, crafts, music, hobbies (p < 0.001), school preparation (<0.0001), and homework (<0.003) was significantly higher in children without ADHD. A moderate effect size (ϕ = 0.42) was determined in respect of cognitive demands making it more difficult for children with ADHD to participate in home activities than children without ADHD. Conclusions: Children with ADHD were negatively affected in terms of participating in home activities than their typically developing peers. In addition, cognitive demands prevented their participation and involvement in the home environment while cognitive demands were a support for non-ADHD children. Practical implications: A highlight of this research was the comprehensive investigation of the long-term effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on participation in all activities at home, in addition to the support and barriers in the home environment for children with ADHD compared to typically developing peers

    One-stage operation for hydatid disease of lung and liver: Principles of treatment

    AbstractObjective: Hydatid disease is endemic in many countries throughout the world. Although we do not have exact figures, the disease is prevalent in Turkey. A considerable number of patients have additional liver cysts as well. In this study we reviewed our experience with hydatid disease of the lung and liver and discussed the principles of treatment. Methods: From 1971 to 1999, 2509 patients with pulmonary hydatidosis were referred to us, and 485 of them had concomitant liver cysts. Of these, 405 patients had cysts located on the dome of the liver, and they were operated on with phrenotomy through a right thoracotomy. Eighty patients who were found to have concomitant liver cysts in the lower part of the liver were referred to general surgery for a laparotomy. Results: Hydatid cysts located in the lungs were managed by means of cystotomy and capitonnage. For liver cysts, cystotomy and inversion of the cavity with sutures was the surgical method of choice, and a drain was left in place. In case of multiple cysts in the liver, needle aspiration was preferred. Twelve major complications, including excessive biliary drainage and bronchobiliary fistula, occurred in these patients. Conclusions: We believe that management of pulmonary and hepatic cysts simultaneously through the thoracic route is convenient and should be encouraged in patients because this prevents a second operation. Needle aspiration can be applied only for liver cysts. It is absolutely contraindicated in lung hydatid cysts.J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg 2002;124:1212-

    Increased Caspase-3 Immunoreactivity of Erythrocytes in STZ Diabetic Rats

    Eryptosis is a term to define apoptosis of erythrocytes. Oxidative stress and hyperglycemia, both of which exist in the diabetic intravascular environment, can trigger eryptosis of erythrocytes. In this experimental study, it is presented that the majority of erythrocytes shows caspase-3 immunoreactivity in streptozocin- (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Besides that, caspase-3 positive erythrocytes are aggregated and attached to vascular endothelium. In conclusion, these results may start a debate that eryptosis could have a role in the diabetic complications

    Effects of Glucose Control on Hematological Indices in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

    Aim: We aimed to investigate the effects of diabetes treatment modalities on haematological parameters and leukocyte formula in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Materials and Methods: The study included 102 patients with type 2 diabetes, out of which 51 receiving insulin treatment and 51 receiving oral antidiabetics (OAD). Hemogram data of insulin and OAD treated groups were compared.Results HbA1c levels were 11.12 ± 2.09 mg/dl in insulin group and 7.94 ± 2.1 mg/dl in OAD group p=0.001. Platelet counts were 27866.67 ± 77693 109/L before treatment and 258941.18 ± 69068.2 109/L in OAD group at six months, p: 0.015 whereas; 293011.76 ± 73711.21 109/L before treatment and 289492.86 ± 82631.49 109/L in insulin group at six months p: 0.821. Monocyte counts were 0.47 ± 0.12 109/L before the treatment and 0.57 ± 0.12 109/L in mix insulin therapy subgroup at six months, p:0.004; monocyte percentage was % 6.11 ± 1.74 before the treatment and %7.51 ± 2.57 in mix insulin subgroup at six months p:0.039;  Basophiles counts were 0.1 ±  0.02 109/L before treatment and 0.09 ± 0.04 109/L in intensive insulin therapy subgroup at six months, p: 0.005; Lymphocyte and basophils counts were significantly decreased at six months insulin treatment as compared to the pretreatment values.Conclusion: This study showed that, glucose control effects; blood indices HbA1C, basophiles, eosinophils, platelets and lymphocytes counts
