A Typical Medium Dynamical Cluster Approximation for the Study of Anderson Localization in Three Dimensions
We develop a systematic typical medium dynamical cluster approximation that
provides a proper description of the Anderson localization transition in three
dimensions (3D). Our method successfully captures the localization phenomenon
both in the low and large disorder regimes, and allows us to study the
localization in different momenta cells, which renders the discovery that the
Anderson localization transition occurs in a cell-selective fashion. As a
function of cluster size, our method systematically recovers the re-entrance
behavior of the mobility edge and obtains the correct critical disorder

Dual Fermion Dynamical Cluster Approach for Strongly Correlated Systems
We have designed a new multi-scale approach for Strongly Correlated Systems
by combining the Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA) and the recently
introduced dual-fermion formalism. This approach employs an exact mapping from
a real lattice to a DCA cluster of linear size Lc embedded in a dual fermion
lattice. Short-length-scale physics is addressed by the DCA cluster
calculation, while longer-length-scale physics is addressed diagrammatically
using dual fermions. The bare and dressed dual Fermionic Green functions scale
as O(1/Lc) so perturbation theory on the dual lattice converges very quickly.
E.g., the dual Fermion self-energy calculated with simple second order
perturbation theory is of order O(1/Lc^3), with third order and three body
corrections down by an additional factor of O(1/Lc^2)

Intentions and Attitudes Towards Parenthood and Fertility Awareness Among Chinese University Students in Hong Kong: A Comparison with Western Samples
STUDY QUESTION What are the levels of awareness regarding female fertility and the intentions and attitudes towards parenthood among Chinese university students in Hong Kong compared with their counterparts in the West?
SUMMARY ANSWER Chinese university students in Hong Kong were similarly over-optimistic about the age-related fertility decline, although they were less inclined to have children and undergo fertility treatment compared with their Western counterparts.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Past studies of highly educated young adults in Europe and the USA have found that they are not sufficiently aware of the age-related decline in female fertility, and falsely believe that advanced reproductive treatments such as IVF will overcome fertility problems associated with age. Little is known about the perceptions of Chinese students in Hong Kong, a modernized Chinese city where the fertility rate is among the lowest in the world.
STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION An online cross-sectional survey of Chinese university students in Hong Kong was conducted in 2013. Results were compared with two similar studies in Sweden and the USA.
PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS A total of 367 university students in Hong Kong (275 female, 92 male; mean age 23) responded to an e-mail invitation to participate in an online survey. Intentions and attitudes towards parenthood and awareness regarding female fertility were assessed using the Swedish Fertility Awareness Questionnaire.
MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Like their Western counterparts, a large proportion of Chinese university students underestimated the age-related fertility decline (92%) and overestimated the fertility treatment success rate (66%). However, they were less inclined to have children, were more aware of and less concerned with infertility and were less motivated to seek solutions in the event of a fertility problem. These comparisons were significant at P \u3c 0.05.
LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Self-selection bias was inevitable in the questionnaire survey, and the anonymous nature of the survey did not permit the collection of characteristics of non-responders. International comparisons warrant caution because the Hong Kong sample was older than the US sample (mean age 20), but not older than the Sweden sample (mean age 24).
WIDER IMPLICATION OF FINDINGS While this study was consistent with past Western studies on the lack of fertility awareness among highly educated young people, the findings reveal significant cultural differences in family planning and responses to infertility between Asia and the West
Unusual Dynamical Scaling in the Spatial Distribution of Persistent Sites in 1D Potts Models
The distribution, n(k,t), of the interval sizes, k, between clusters of
persistent sites in the dynamical evolution of the one-dimensional q-state
Potts model is studied using a combination of numerical simulations, scaling
arguments, and exact analysis. It is shown to have the scaling form n(k,t) =
t^{-2z} f(k/t^z), with z= max(1/2,theta), where theta(q) is the persistence
exponent which characterizes the fraction of sites which have not changed their
state up to time t. When theta > 1/2, the scaling length, t^theta, for the
interval-size distribution is larger than the coarsening length scale, t^{1/2},
that characterizes spatial correlations of the Potts variables.Comment: RevTex, 11 page
VHE Gamma-ray Afterglow Emission from Nearby GRBs
Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) are among the potential extragalactic sources of
very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-rays. We discuss the prospects of detecting VHE
gamma-rays with current ground-based Cherenkov instruments during the afterglow
phase. Using the fireball model, we calculate the synchrotron self-Compton
(SSC) emission from forward-shock electrons. The modeled results are compared
with the observational afterglow data taken with and/or the sensitivity level
of ground-based VHE instruments (e.g. STACEE, H.E.S.S., MAGIC, VERITAS, and
Whipple). We find that modeled SSC emission from bright and nearby bursts such
as GRB 030329 are detectable by these instruments even with a delayed

Multi-wavelength emissions from the millisecond pulsar binary PSR J1023+0038 during an accretion active state
Recent observations strongly suggest that the millisecond pulsar binary PSR
J1023+0038 has developed an accretion disk since 2013 June. We present a
multi-wavelength analysis of PSR J1023+0038, which reveals that 1) its
gamma-rays suddenly brightened within a few days in June/July 2013 and has
remained at a high gamma-ray state for several months; 2) both UV and X-ray
fluxes have increased by roughly an order of magnitude, and 3) the spectral
energy distribution has changed significantly after the gamma-ray sudden flux
change. Time variabilities associated with UV and X-rays are on the order of
100-500 seconds and 50-100 seconds, respectively. Our model suggests that a
newly formed accretion disk due to the sudden increase of the stellar wind
could explain the changes of all these observed features. The increase of UV is
emitted from the disk, and a new component in gamma-rays is produced by inverse
Compton scattering between the new UV component and pulsar wind. The increase
of X-rays results from the enhancement of injection pulsar wind energy into the
intra-binary shock due to the increase of the stellar wind. We also predict
that the radio pulses may be blocked by the evaporated winds from the disk and
