    Improvement of Electrochemical Stability Using the Eutectic Composition of a Ternary Molten Salt System for Highly Concentrated Electrolytes for Na-Ion Batteries

    The increase in the concentration of electrolytes for secondary batteries has significant advantages in terms of physicochemical and electrochemical performance. This study aims to explore a highly concentrated electrolyte for Na-ion batteries using a ternary salt system. The eutectic composition of the Na[N(SO₂F₂]–Na[N(SO₂F)(SO₂CF₃)]–Na[SO₃CF₃] ternary molten salt system increases solubility into an organic solvent, enabling the use of highly concentrated electrolytes for Na-ion batteries. The ternary salt system achieved concentrations of 5.0 m (m = mol kg⁻¹) with propylene carbonate (PC), 2.9 m with dimethoxyethane, 2.0 m with ethylene carbonate/dimethyl carbonate, and 3.9 m with ethylene carbonate/diethyl carbonate. The highly concentrated electrolyte of 5.0 m in PC suppressed Al corrosion and exhibited better oxidative stability. Stable electrochemical performance using hard carbon/NaCrO₂ in the full-cell configuration introduces a new strategy to explore highly concentrated electrolytes for secondary batteries

    The Protective Effect of Chlorogenic Acid on Vascular Senescence via the Nrf2/HO-1 Pathway

    The world faces the serious problem of aging. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on vascular senescence. C57/BL6 female mice that were 14 +/- 3 months old were infused with either Angiotensin II (AngII) or saline subcutaneously for two weeks. These mice were administered CGA of 20 or 40 mg/kg/day, or saline via oral gavage. AngII infusion developed vascular senescence, which was confirmed by senescence associated-beta-galactosidase (SA-beta-gal) staining. CGA administration attenuated vascular senescence in a dose-dependent manner, in association with the increase of Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and with the decrease of p-Akt, PAI-1, p53, and p21. In an in vitro study, with or without pre-treatment of CGA, Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs) were stimulated with H(2)O(2)for an hour, then cultured in the absence or presence of 0.5-5.0 mu M CGA for the indicated time. Endothelial cell senescence was induced by H2O2, which was attenuated by CGA treatment. Pre-treatment of CGA increased Nrf2 in HUVECs. After H(2)O(2)treatment, translocation of Nrf2 into the nucleus and the subsequent increase of Heme Oxygenase-1 (HO-1) were observed earlier in CGA-treated cells. Furthermore, the HO-1 inhibitor canceled the beneficial effect of CGA on vascular senescence in mice. In conclusion, CGA exerts a beneficial effect on vascular senescence, which is at least partly dependent on the Nuclear factor erythroid 2-factor 2 (Nrf2)/HO-1 pathway

    BACKGROUND: Colonoscopy is one of the most reliable methods for detection of colorectal neoplasms, but conventional colonoscopy can miss some lesions. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of autofluorescence imaging (AFI) with a transparent hood (TH) for detection of colorectal neoplasms. DESIGN: A 2 × 2 factorial designed, prospective, randomized, controlled trial. SETTING: This study was conducted at the Osaka Medical Center for Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases, a tertiary cancer center. PATIENTS: A total of 561 patients. INTERVENTIONS: Patients were allocated to 1 of 4 groups: (1) white light imaging (WLI) alone--colonoscopy using WLI without a TH; (2) WLI+TH--colonoscopy using WLI with a TH; (3) AFI alone--colonoscopy using AFI without a TH; and (4) AFI+TH--colonoscopy using AFI with a TH. Eight colonoscopists used each allocated method. MAIN OUTCOME MEASUREMENT: The difference in neoplasm detection rate (number of detected neoplasms per patient) between the WLI alone and AFI+TH groups. RESULTS: Neoplasm detection rate (95% confidence interval) in the AFI+TH group was significantly higher than in the WLI alone group (1.96 [1.50-2.43] vs 1.19 [0.93-1.44]; P = .023, Tukey-Kramer multiple comparison test). Relative detection ratios (95% confidence interval) for polypoid neoplasms based on Poisson regression model were significantly increased by mounting a TH (1.69 [1.34-2.12], P < .001), and relative detection ratios for flat neoplasms were significantly increased by AFI observation (1.83 [1.24-2.71], P = .002). LIMITATIONS: Open trial performed in single cancer referral center. CONCLUSION: AFI colonoscopy with a TH detected significantly more colorectal neoplasms than did conventional WLI colonoscopy without a TH.博士(医学)・乙1327号・平成26年3月17

    The Association of Postprandial Triglyceride Variability with Renal Dysfunction and Microalbuminuria in Patients with Type 2 Diabetic Mellitus: A Retrospective and Observational Study

    Objective. We examined whether or not day-to-day variations in lipid profiles, especially triglyceride (TG) variability, were associated with the exacerbation of diabetic kidney disease. Methods. We conducted a retrospective and observational study. First, 527 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) who had had their estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) checked every 6 months since 2012 for over 5 years were registered. Variability in postprandial TG was determined using the standard deviation (SD), SD adjusted (Adj-SD) for the number of measurements, and maximum minus minimum difference (MMD) during the first three years of follow-up. The endpoint was a & GE;40% decline from baseline in the eGFR, initiation of dialysis or death. Next, 181 patients who had no micro- or macroalbuminuria in February 2013 were selected from among the 527 patients for an analysis. The endpoint was the incidence of microalbuminuria, initiation of dialysis, or death. Results. Among the 527 participants, 110 reached a & GE;40% decline from baseline in the eGFR or death. The renal survival was lower in the higher-SD, higher-Adj-SD, and higher-MMD groups than in the lower-SD, lower-Adj-SD, and lower-MMD groups, respectively (log-rank test p=0.0073, 0.0059, and 0.0195, respectively). A lower SD, lower Adj-SD, and lower MMD were significantly associated with the renal survival in the adjusted model (hazard ratio, 1.62, 1.66, 1.59; 95% confidence intervals, 1.05-2.53, 1.08-2.58, 1.04-2.47, respectively). Next, among 181 participants, 108 developed microalbuminuria or death. The nonincidence of microalbuminuria was lower in the higher-SD, higher-Adj-SD, and higher-MMD groups than in the lower-SD, lower-Adj-SD, and lower-MMD groups, respectively (log-rank test p=0.0241, 0.0352, and 0.0474, respectively). Conclusions. Postprandial TG variability is a novel risk factor for eGFR decline and the incidence of microalbuminuria in patients with type 2 DM

    The Japanese Society of Pathology Guidelines on the handling of pathological tissue samples for genomic research: Standard operating procedures based on empirical analyses

    Genome research using appropriately collected pathological tissue samples is expected to yield breakthroughs in the development of biomarkers and identification of therapeutic targets for diseases such as cancers. In this connection, the Japanese Society of Pathology (JSP) has developed “The JSP Guidelines on the Handling of Pathological Tissue Samples for Genomic Research” based on an abundance of data from empirical analyses of tissue samples collected and stored under various conditions. Tissue samples should be collected from appropriate sites within surgically resected specimens, without disturbing the features on which pathological diagnosis is based, while avoiding bleeding or necrotic foci. They should be collected as soon as possible after resection: at the latest within about 3 h of storage at 4°C. Preferably, snap‐frozen samples should be stored in liquid nitrogen (about −180°C) until use. When intending to use genomic DNA extracted from formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded tissue, 10% neutral buffered formalin should be used. Insufficient fixation and overfixation must both be avoided. We hope that pathologists, clinicians, clinical laboratory technicians and biobank operators will come to master the handling of pathological tissue samples based on the standard operating procedures in these Guidelines to yield results that will assist in the realization of genomic medicine

    No association of xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus with prostate cancer or chronic fatigue syndrome in Japan

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The involvement of xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV) in prostate cancer (PC) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is disputed as its reported prevalence ranges from 0% to 25% in PC cases and from 0% to more than 80% in CFS cases. To evaluate the risk of XMRV infection during blood transfusion in Japan, we screened three populations--healthy donors (<it>n </it>= 500), patients with PC (<it>n </it>= 67), and patients with CFS (<it>n </it>= 100)--for antibodies against XMRV proteins in freshly collected blood samples. We also examined blood samples of viral antibody-positive patients with PC and all (both antibody-positive and antibody-negative) patients with CFS for XMRV DNA.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Antibody screening by immunoblot analysis showed that a fraction of the cases (1.6-3.0%) possessed anti-Gag antibodies regardless of their gender or disease condition. Most of these antibodies were highly specific to XMRV Gag capsid protein, but none of the individuals in the three tested populations retained strong antibody responses to multiple XMRV proteins. In the viral antibody-positive PC patients, we occasionally detected XMRV genes in plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells but failed to isolate an infectious or full-length XMRV. Further, all CFS patients tested negative for XMRV DNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our data show no solid evidence of XMRV infection in any of the three populations tested, implying that there is no association between the onset of PC or CFS and XMRV infection in Japan. However, the lack of adequate human specimens as a positive control in Ab screening and the limited sample size do not allow us to draw a firm conclusion.</p

    Reliability and validity of the patient disability-oriented diagnostic nomenclature system for prosthetic dentistry

    Purpose: The Japan Prosthodontic Society (JPS) has proposed a new diagnostic nomenclature system (DNS), based on pathogenesis and etiology, to facilitate and improve prosthodontic treatment. This systemspecifies patient disability and the causative factor (i.e. ‘‘B (disability) caused by A (causative factor)’’). The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of this DNS. Study selection: The JPS Clinical Guideline Committee assessed mock patient charts and formulated disease names using the new DNS. Fifty validators, comprising prosthodontic specialists and dental residents, made diagnoses using the same patient charts. Reliability was evaluated as the consistency of the disease names among the validators, and validity was evaluated using the concordance rate of the disease names with the reference disease names. Results: Krippendorff’s α was 0.378 among all validators, 0.370 among prosthodontic specialists, and 0.401 among dental hospital residents. Krippendorff’s α for 10 validators (3 specialists and 7 residents) with higher concordance rates was 0.524. Two validators (1 specialist and 1 resident) with the highest concordance rates had a Krippendorff’s α of 0.648. Common disease names had higher concordance rates, while uncommon disease names showed lower concordance rates. These rates did not show correlation with clinical experience of the validator or time taken to devise the disease name. Conclusions: High reliability was not found among all validators; however, validators with higher concordance rates showed better reliability. Furthermore, common disease names had higher concordance rates. These findings indicate that the new DNS for prosthodontic dentistry exhibits clinically acceptable reliability and validity

The Department of Nursing, Aino University is currently divided into the five areas and further into 12 fields. On the other hand, according to the Scientific Research Grant Program (2015 fiscal year), the research topics in nursing science is subdivided into the five areas; a) basic nursing, b) clinical nursing, c) lifelong developmental nursing, d) elderly nursing, and e) community health nursing
