Recently, the status of medical science and practices has been advancing in a matter to satisfactorily by medical patients. However, its rational direction has been somewhat unexpected with untoward outcome on medical science itself. In Japan, an increasingly-aging population remains an extreme problem-now considered as the most difficult situation facing the 21st Century. Accordingly, the present status of social health care and welfare system in Japan has become the core of the existing medical and nursing services, as viewed from the peripheral framework of medical services. As a rational result, care management factors come into plays and flows into the mainstream of medical services. The objective, therefore, is to strike a favorable balance on the important roles among healthcare, social welfare, medical and nursing services. Within this contest, consistent interplay will be expected between doctors, nurses and paramedic staffs. Further, in order to support and encourage medical patients on the quality of life, including its energy potentials, from an emotional standpoint, the necessity of a philosophical approach in relation to care management system, should be emphasized. As such, the spiritual reflection due to traditional and oriental concepts must be conducted in order to realize greater and lasting the life-energy potentials

Modern medical science and medical treatment in Japan have greatly progressed, showing remarkable development of the most advanced technology in medical treatment. Nevertheless, it is frequently difficult to treat the elderly aged or others requiring care with only western medicine because the clinical indications must be very strict owing to possible side effects or other adverse reactions. Recently, a “public long-term care insurance” has been established by the Japanese government with the active cooperation of the local governments. Patient care has become an important field of modern medicine. As this new consciousness of health care gains respect and the new trends in social welfare wherein “care” should be based on the origin of the morbid state and early diagnosis at the pre-stage of disease advance, the view is gaining ground that “human scientific patient care” is likely to be more important than modern analytical western medical technology itself. In our recent clinical studies related to life style disease and cancer patients, we observed and analyzed several new morbid states by Bi-Digital O-Ring Test (BDORT) diagnosis based on a general oriental medicine concept of “Sho” (the set of holistic patterns of a patient’s symptoms) and sought to improve the QOL of patients using both western and orient medical treatments. With respect to the current development of the health care activities, we intend to elucidate the necessary elements for developing a new medical system based on the symbiosis of both western and oriental medicine

Acupuncture meridian theory was established more than 2000 years ago. The theory of the meridians deals with their locations, physiological, pathological changes and their relation to the ZANG-FU (viscera) organs. It is one of the more important components of traditiona1 0riental medicine. Ryodoraku developed from the meridian theory due to its low electric impedance characteristics than other non-meridian sites. Many clinical researches show that Ryodoraku measurement is helpful to oriental medical diagnosis by detecting the balance and condition of the Autonomic Nervous System that regulates the physiological homeostasis. The Ryodoraku measurement is based on the changes of 12 meridians’ electrical activities. We measured the Ryodoraku acupoints using a conventional type of the neuro-meter (LCM), and found that the repeated measurements made the results unstable because of the high 200μA current generated by the electrode. We, therefore, developed a new Ryodoraku measurement tool designed with a low 10 μA constant current electrode in a standard current power supply circuit. The new measurement tool provided stable, faithful and reproducible data. It should be safely asserted that this new measurement would ensure the accuracy of Ryodoraku measurement and promote Ryodoraku medical diagnosis in health, nursing and welfare fields

This research is about the relationship between personality and the perception of chronic pain. Those survey examined two groups: resident of elderly homes/institutions (RH) and older people living at home (LH). All groups were tested with the YG and the Maudsley personality inventory. Each person evaluated his pain by the Face scale. In relation to the YG inventory, each member of RH group separately had a wide range of personality types, but member of LH group had personality types B, D, AB and AD. In relation to the Maudsley inventory, each member of LH group had EO or E+, but member of RH group had EO or E-. Regarding the degree of the pain, the RH group perceived pain more severely than the LH group

The Scythian Iceman, the oldest European mummified body with tattoos, provides strong evidence that the acupuncture meridian theory was established more than 5, 000 years ago. The current medical treatment system in Japan lacks the holistic concepts of traditional oriental medicine of which the meridian system is an important component. In the present study, we developed a new meridian diagnosis instrument to determine the quantitative and qualitative balance of the human body, based on traditional oriental medical theory. A newly devised three point system equipment with a constant current (10μA) generation circuit (INA126) was used to clinically measure the electrical resistance value of the 12 true meridian routes. Furthermore, the electro-physiological background was also investigated. The measured value of the meridian flow resistance of the 12 true meridians was displayed on a meridian flow radar chart, and a traditional oriental medical diagnosis was conducted based on the changes in values on the radar chart. In addition, we also investigated the clinical effect of treatment with acupuncture and oriental herbal medicine of a chronic pain patient diagnosed using radar chart values

Despite the remarkable development of modern medical science, the medical treatment system in Japan does not always satisfy the patients because most of medical doctors lack the holistic view to patients. Thus, it is necessary to pursue a new medical treatment such as Life-based Medicine (LBM) in the advanced age and declining birth rates era. Acupuncture therapy has been developed from enormous trials and errors and performed clinically in China for several thousand years. It is considered to be very useful to improve and prevent life-style diseases as a new LBM treatment. In the present study, we developed a new meridian diagnosis instrument to determine the balance of the human body based on Chinese Traditional Medicine theory. We measured electric conductivity of 12 true meridians in 10 subjects by using our new instrument built-in a constant current (10μA) generation circuit (INA126) attached with three standardized electrodes. Our data show that the amplitude and the phase of sine waves of the electrically stimulated meridians changed in accordance with the stimulation time. We hypothesize that the electric conductivity of meridians could be partially due to volume transmission mechanism
