This study aims to provide an intervention for effective health checkup methods to adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) combined with autistic tendencies at the workplace in the community. We sent requests for participation to ninety six users in a metropolitan area. The final subjects were four users (4.2%), males, ages ranging from 20\u27s to 40\u27s, and ID from moderate to severe. After the intervention, three of the participants (75.0%) were able to successfully undergo all of the medical inspections. Our research affected participants concerning opportunities for proper checkups, reducing unnecessary expenditures, and changing attitudes of people involved in this study

    posture stability in archery players

Objectives : The effects of full-field dynamic visual disturbance on body sway were examined in archery players (n = 24), ball game players (n = 35), and untrained subjects (n = 34). Methods : Participants were asked to stand on a platform surrounded a box, the inside of which was randomly dotted. After the box suddenly began to swing and continued to swing back and forth at a frequency of 0.42 Hz for 60 seconds in a damped sinusoidal waveform, the body center sway was recorded using a stabilometer. Results : Standard deviation (SD) of body center sway in the anterior-posterior direction suddenly increased just after the box began to swing, and gradually decreased as the box swung in a damped sinusoidal waveform. After a sudden initial increase in SD of body center sway, it significantly decreased in archery players, compared with that of ball game players 20 seconds or untrained subjects 15 and 20 seconds after the onset of the box motion. Conclusion : Archery players showed higher stability against visual disturbance, compared with ball game players and untrained subjects, suggesting that they rely on proprioceptive inputs to maintain balance, and that their training re-weights sensorimotor dominance from vision to proprioception for posture regulation to increase shooting accuracy

In this review, physiological responses to space flight are summarized. Soon after orbital insertion, space motion sickness occurs during the first few days on orbit. The loss of body fluids is then followed by the shift of body fluids toward the head. During longer space flight, muscle atrophy, calcium loss and possible effects from cumulative radiation appear to increase continually

The differential display method was applied to identify genes expression of which is upordown-regulated in the flocculus after unilateral labyrinthectomy (UL) in rats. TotalRNAs from sham operated flocculus and labyrinthectomized flocculus were isolated andamplified by PCR using arbitrary primer sets. PCR products the amounts of which weresignificantly higher or lower in samples from operated animals than those from controls, were cut out of the gel and sequenced. One of the higher expressed fragments showed100% nucleotide sequence identify to protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) beta catalytic subunitmRNA. In animals with continuous floccular infusion of okadaic acid, a potent inhibitor ofPP 2 A, UL-induced spontaneous nystagmus (SN) lasted significantly longer. One of the lowerexpressed fragments showed 100% nucleotide sequence identify to glutamate receptor (GluR)delta-2 subunit mRNA. UL-induced SN in GluR delta-2 mutant mice was exacerbated at theinitial stage. All these findings suggest that up-regulation of PP2A beta and down regulateGluR delta-2 in flocculus after UL is involved in lesion-induced vestibular plasticity

Molecular Mechanisms of Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis in the Renal Proximal Tubular Epithelium

Receptor-mediated endocytosis is a pivotal function of renal proximal tubule epithelial cells (PTECs) to reabsorb and metabolize substantial amounts of proteins and other substances in glomerular filtrates. The function accounts for the conservation of nutrients, including carrier-bound vitamins and trace elements, filtered by glomeruli. Impairment of the process results in a loss of such substances and development of proteinuria, an important clinical sign of kidney disease and a risk marker for cardiovascular disease. Megalin is a multiligand endocytic receptor expressed at clathrin-coated pits of PTEC, playing a central role in the process. Megalin cooperates with various membrane molecules and interacts with many intracellular adaptor proteins for endocytic trafficking. Megalin is also involved in signaling pathways in the cells. Megalin-mediated endocytic overload leads to damage of PTEC. Further studies are needed to elucidate the mechanism of megalin-mediated endocytosis and develop strategies for preventing the damage of PTEC

Objective : We examined the effects of SLIT with tablets containing JCP antigens on nasal symptoms and sleep disturbance in patients with Japanese cedar pollinosis during pollen dispersal season. Methods : A total of 128 patients with Japanese cedar pollinosis were categorized into four groups : 19 one-year SLIT with tablets group, 16 two-year SLIT with drops group, 19 antihistamine group, and 74 untreated group. The scores of nasal symptoms and sleep disturbance were evaluated based on the Japanese guidelines for allergic rhinitis and the Athens Insomnia Scale. Results : The scores of nasal symptoms and sleep disturbance at the peak cedar pollen period in the two-year SLIT with drop group and the one-year SLIT with tablets group were significantly lower than those in untreated group. Additionally, these scores were significantly lower in the one-year SLIT with tablets group than those in the antihistamine group. Conclusion : It is suggested that SLIT with JCP tablets improved both nasal symptoms and sleep disturbances at peak pollen period in patients with Japanese cedar pollinosis. SLIT with JCP tablets for one year was more effective than SLIT with JCP drops for two years and prophylactic treatment with antihistamines

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common disease in developed countries and its incidence has increased in recent years. In Japan, although AR is rare before the 1950s, about 10-20% of population is now reported to be suffering from AR. Especially, epidemiological studies showed a remarkable increase in the incidence of Japanese cedar pollinosis within the last four decades. The reason for the high incidence of AR cannot be explained only by an increased amount of antigens, such as cedar pollen. Several hypotheses, including hygiene hypothesis, are proposed. The hygiene hypothesis that declining exposure to infections increased the incidence of AR by Th 2 predominace in the immune response is now gaining supportive evidence. Air pollution hypothesis that diesel exhaust particles enhanced IgE-mediated immune response is also proposed. A Western lifestyle is another important factor in the increase in AR. Although antihistamines and topical corticosteroids are effective therapies for the patients with AR, laser turbinectomy under endoscopy is highly effective and minimally invasive for the treatment of intractable AR. Submucosal turbinectomy with posterior-superior nasal neurectomy is indicated for the treatment of perennial A
