    Rutile-type Ge_xSn_{1−x}O_2 alloy layers lattice-matched to TiO_2 substrates for device applications

    TiO₂に格子整合した高品質ルチル型GeₓSn₁−ₓO₂デバイスの動作実証 --高耐圧パワーデバイスへの応用--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2024-01-19.We report the characterization and application of mist-CVD-grown rutile-structured Ge_xSn_{1−x}O_2 (x = ∼0.53) films lattice-matched to isostructural TiO_2(001) substrates. The grown surface was flat throughout the growth owing to the lattice-matching epitaxy. Additionally, the film was single-crystalline without misoriented domains and TEM-detectable threading dislocations due to the coherent heterointerface. Using the Ge_{0.49}Sn_{0.51}O_2 film with a carrier density of 7.8 × 10^{18} cm^{−3} and a mobility of 24 cm^2V^{−1}s^{−1}, lateral Schottky barrier diodes were fabricated with Pt anodes and Ti/Au cathodes. The diodes exhibited rectifying properties with a rectification ratio of 8.2 × 10^4 at ±5 V, showing the potential of Ge_xSn_{1−x}O_2 as a practical semiconductor

    Serotonin transporter gene polymorphism may be associated with functional dyspepsia in a Japanese population

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Although familial clustering of functional dyspepsia (FD) has been reported, the role of genetics in the susceptibility to FD is still not well understood. In the present study, the association between serotonin transporter (SERT) gene (<it>SLC6A4</it>) polymorphism and FD was explored.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Subjects were divided into either a postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) group or an epigastric pain syndrome (EPS) group according to the Rome III criteria. The healthy controls were those who had visited a hospital for an annual health check-up. The presence of the <it>SLC6A4 </it>promoter polymorphism, <it>5-hydroxytryptamin transporter gene linked polymorphic region </it>(<it>5-HTTLPR</it>), was then evaluated, and logistic regression analysis was used to test all variables.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The <it>5-HTTLPR </it>genotype distribution was 448 SS, 174 SL, and 24 LL in controls and 30 SS, 20 SL, and 3 LL in FD subjects. No significant correlation was found between the <it>5-HTTLPR </it>genotype and FD. When the genotypes and subtypes of FD were exploratory evaluated, the SL genotype was significantly associated with PDS [odds ratio (OR) = 2.24, 95% confidence interval (CI); 1.16-4.32, <it>P </it>= 0.034 after Bonferroni correction] compared to the SS genotype adjusted for sex and age. Comparison of the SS genotype with the SL/LL genotype also showed a significant association of genotype with PDS (OR = 2.32, 95% CI; 1.23-4.37, <it>P </it>= 0.009).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The present results suggest that <it>5-HTTLPR </it>L allele may influence the susceptibility to PDS.</p

    青森・岩手県境地域における水系および土壌中微量有害金属元素分析

    By ICP-MS we are going to investigate trace and toxic metal elements in such water samples as (1) environmental water samples collected around the unlawfully dumped area, (2) input and output water samples in the oozed water processing facility and (3) underground water samples inside the unlawfully dumped area. Although some of samples in the unlawfully dumped area showed high-concentrations, all the other samples collected outside the area indicated the value under the environmental standard for each metal element. Therefore,it is thought that the pollution has stayed inside the unlawfully dumped area. Soil samples are also collected to examine soil pollution. Two kinds of pretreatment methods are tried to get sample solution to measure by ICP-MS

    Quiet Diffusion-weighted MR Imaging of the Brain for Pediatric Patients with Moyamoya Disease

    PURPOSE: Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) is an essential sequence for evaluating pediatric patients with moyamoya disease (MMD); however, acoustic noise associated with DWI may lead to motion artifact. Compared with conventional DWI (cDWI), quiet DWI (qDWI) is considered less noisy and able to keep children more relaxed and stable. This study aimed to evaluate the suitability of qDWI compared with cDWI for pediatric patients with MMD. METHODS: In this observational study, MR examinations of the brain were performed either with or without sedation in pediatric patients with MMD between September 2017 and August 2018. Three neuroradiologists independently evaluated the images for artifacts and restricted diffusion in the brain. The differences between qDWI and cDWI were compared statistically using a chi-square test. RESULTS: One-hundred and six MR scans of 56 patients with MMD (38 scans of 15 sedated patients: 6 boys and 9 girls; mean age, 5.2 years; range, 1-9 years; and 68 scans of 42 unsedated patients: 19 boys and 23 girls; mean age, 10.7 years; range, 7-16 years) were evaluated. MR examinations were performed either with or without sedation (except in one patient). In sedated patients, no artifact other than susceptibility was observed on qDWI, whereas four artifacts were observed on cDWI (P = .04). One patient awoke from sedation during cDWI scanning, while no patient awoke from sedation during qDWI acquisition. For unsedated patients, three scans showed artifacts on qDWI, whereas two scans showed artifacts on cDWI (P = .65). Regarding restricted diffusion, qDWI revealed three cases, while two cases were found on cDWI (P = .66). CONCLUSION: qDWI induced fewer artifacts compared with cDWI in sedated patients, and similar frequencies of artifacts were induced by qDWI and by cDWI in unsedated patients. qDWI showed restricted diffusion comparable to cDWI

    誘導結合プラズマ質量分析法を用いた環境水中微量有害金属元素分析

    To clarify the influence of unlawfully dumped wastes in the boundary area between Aomori and Iwate prefecture,we are analyzing the trace and toxic metal elements in leached water from the field and collected water samples around the field by using inductively coupled plasma spectrometry. We collected water samples from eleven points and confirmed that the concentrations of cadmium,lead and mercury indicate below the environmental standard values. But the obtained values for arsenic and selenium in some of the samples showed the higher values affected by the coexistence materials. We therefore measured these concentrations of the two elements by another method of atomic absorption analysis and clarified that each concentration for arsenic and selenium is also lower than the environmental standard for each element
