Improving the FAIRness of Japanese Archaeological Grey Literature
In Japan, archaeology is predominantly an administrative pursuit, with only 15,261 research-driven excavations compared to 331,574 rescue excavations linked to development projects from 1976 to 2022. This approach operates within a broader framework focused on protecting archaeological sites, part of a larger cultural property preservation program governed by the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties. The law emphasizes both the preservation and utilization of cultural properties, with protection encompassing these activities. Administrative tasks, including excavation, analysis, selection, repair, public sharing, museum display, and preservation, constitute a cyclical process of cultural property management. The decentralized administrative structure involves the national-level Agency for Cultural Affairs and local boards of education at prefectural and municipal levels. Notably, 95% of excavations over the past fifty years were conducted by administrative agencies as part of cultural property preservation. Fieldwork reports are considered the end-products of excavations, crucial for disseminating results and claiming common ownership. However, due to decentralization, the production and dissemination of grey literature in Japanese archaeology lack coherent management. Spatial correlation between submillimetre and Lyman-alpha galaxies in the SSA 22 protocluster
Lyman-alpha emitters are thought to be young, low-mass galaxies with ages of
~10^8 yr. An overdensity of them in one region of the sky (the SSA 22 field)
traces out a filamentary structure in the early Universe at a redshift of z =
3.1 (equivalent to 15 per cent of the age of the Universe) and is believed to
mark a forming protocluster. Galaxies that are bright at (sub)millimetre
wavelengths are undergoing violent episodes of star formation, and there is
evidence that they are preferentially associated with high-redshift radio
galaxies, so the question of whether they are also associated with the most
significant large-scale structure growing at high redshift (as outlined by
Lyman-alpha emitters) naturally arises. Here we report an imaging survey of
1,100-um emission in the SSA 22 region. We find an enhancement of submillimetre
galaxies near the core of the protocluster, and a large-scale correlation
between the submillimetre galaxies and the low-mass Lyman-alpha emitters,
suggesting synchronous formation of the two very different types of
star-forming galaxy within the same structure at high redshift. These results
are in general agreement with our understanding of the formation of cosmic

We investigated the release behavior of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) from a biodegradable injectable polymer (IP) hydrogel. This hydrogel shows temperature-responsive irreversible gelation due to the covalent bond formation through a thiol-ene reaction. In vitro sustained release of GLP-1 from an irreversible IP formulation (F(P1/D+PA40)) was observed compared with a reversible (physical gelation) IP formulation (F(P1)). Moreover, pharmaceutically active levels of GLP-1 were maintained in blood after subcutaneous injection of the irreversible IP formulation into rats. Hyper-luminous Dust Obscured Galaxies discovered by the Hyper Suprime-Cam on Subaru and WISE
We present the photometric properties of a sample of infrared (IR) bright
dust obscured galaxies (DOGs). Combining wide and deep optical images obtained
with the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) on the Subaru Telescope and all-sky mid-IR
(MIR) images taken with Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), we
discovered 48 DOGs with and , where
, , and [22] represent AB magnitude in the -band,
-band, and 22 m, respectively, in the GAMA 14hr field
( 9 deg). Among these objects, 31 ( 65 %) show power-law
spectral energy distributions (SEDs) in the near-IR (NIR) and MIR regime, while
the remainder show a NIR bump in their SEDs. Assuming that the redshift
distribution for our DOGs sample is Gaussian, with mean and sigma = 1.99
0.45, we calculated their total IR luminosity using an empirical relation
between 22 m luminosity and total IR luminosity. The average value of the
total IR luminosity is (3.5 1.1) L, which
classifies them as hyper-luminous infrared galaxies (HyLIRGs). We also derived
the total IR luminosity function (LF) and IR luminosity density (LD) for a
flux-limited subsample of 18 DOGs with 22 m flux greater than 3.0 mJy and
with -band magnitude brighter than 24 AB magnitude. The derived space
density for this subsample is log = -6.59 0.11 [Mpc]. The
IR LF for DOGs including data obtained from the literature is well fitted by a
double-power law. The derived lower limit for the IR LD for our sample is
3.8 10 [L Mpc] and
its contributions to the total IR LD, IR LD of all ultra-luminous infrared
galaxies (ULIRGs), and that of all DOGs are 3 %, 9 %, and 15 %,

Subaru high-z exploration of low-luminosity quasars (SHELLQs). I. Discovery of 15 quasars and bright galaxies at 5.7 < z < 6.9
We report the discovery of 15 quasars and bright galaxies at 5.7 < z < 6.9.
This is the initial result from the Subaru High-z Exploration of Low-Luminosity
Quasars (SHELLQs) project, which exploits the exquisite multiband imaging data
produced by the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Strategic Program survey. The
candidate selection is performed by combining several photometric approaches
including a Bayesian probabilistic algorithm to reject stars and dwarfs. The
spectroscopic identification was carried out with the Gran Telescopio Canarias
and the Subaru Telescope for the first 80 deg2 of the survey footprint. The
success rate of our photometric selection is quite high, approaching 100 % at
the brighter magnitudes (zAB < 23.5 mag). Our selection also recovered all the
known high-z quasars on the HSC images. Among the 15 discovered objects, six
are likely quasars, while the other six with interstellar absorption lines and
in some cases narrow emission lines are likely bright Lyman-break galaxies. The
remaining three objects have weak continua and very strong and narrow Ly alpha
lines, which may be excited by ultraviolet light from both young stars and
quasars. These results indicate that we are starting to see the steep rise of
the luminosity function of z > 6 galaxies, compared with that of quasars, at
magnitudes fainter than M1450 ~ -22 mag or zAB ~24 mag. Follow-up studies of
