Magneto-thermal-fluid analysis taking account of natural convection using semi-Lagrange coordinate system
A method for magneto-thermal-fluid analysis, taking account of natural convection using a semi-Lagrange coordinate system, is developed. The developed method is applied to a simple induction heating model in which the steel plate is heated due to an eddy current. It is shown that the result, considering the convection in air, is different from the result neglecting it</p
Distribution of Urocortins and Corticotropin-Releasing Factor Receptors in the Cardiovascular System
Urocortins are human homologues of urotensin I, a fish corticotropin-releasing-factor- (CRF-) like peptide secreted from the urophysis. There are three urocortins: urocortin 1, urocortin 2, and urocortin 3 in mammals. We have shown that urocortin 1 and urocortin 3 are endogenously synthesized in the myocardial cells of human heart and may act on CRF type 2 receptor (CRFR2) expressed in the heart. Expression levels of urocortin 1 in the heart and plasma urocortin 1 levels are elevated in patients with heart failure. Recent studies have shown that urocortins have various biological actions in the cardiovascular system, such as a vasodilator action, a positive inotropic action, a cardioprotective action against ischemia/reperfusion injury, and suppressive actions against the renin angiotensin system and the sympathetic nervous system. Urocortins and CRFR2 may therefore be a potential therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases, such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, and myocardial infarction
Investigation of effectiveness of various methods with different unknown variables for 3-D eddy current analysis
Computer codes using the A-φ, A-φ-Ω, A*-0Ω-E, T-Ω, and E-Ω methods were developed. The effects of the volume ratio of the conductor region to the whole region, the shape of the conductor, and the ratio of the hole region to the conductor region on the computer storage, the CPU time, and the accuracy of the methods are investigated systematically using a few simple models. The effect of the conductivity of the conductor is also examined. The computer storage, the CPU time, and the error are found to increase with increase of the volume ratio of the conductor region to the whole region. The computer storage and the CPU time are affected by the shape of the conductor in some methods of analysis. The error of the A*-Ω(E-Ω) method is larger than that of the other methods</p
Modulation of a Chirp Gravitational Wave from a Compact Binary due to Gravitational Lensing
A possible wave effect in the gravitational lensing phenomenon is discussed.
We consider the interference of two coherent gravitational waves of slightly
different frequencies from a compact binary, due to the gravitational lensing
by a galaxy halo. This system shows the modulation of the wave amplitude. The
lensing probability of such the phenomenon is of order 10^{-5} for a high-z
source, but it may be advantageous to the observation due to the magnification
of the amplitude.Comment: 3 pages, PRD in pres
Expression of longitudinal third-order transport coefficient in terms of α parameters and its validity
The relation between the longitudinal third-order transport coefficient ω 3 contained in the continuity equation for electrons and α parameters defined by arrival-time spectra of an electron swarm is deduced. Values of ω 3 and the α parameters in CH4 gas and SF6 gas are calculated by Monte Carlo simulation, and then the values of ω 3 are compared with those of the longitudinal third-order transport coefficient ω\u273 which are calculated from the α parameters to examine the validity of the deduced relation. The values of ω\u273 are found to excellently agree with those of ω 3 below 500 Td in CH4 gas and from 150 Td to 700 Td in SF6 gas, where the values of the effective ionisation coefficient are nought or quite small. The results suggest that values of ω 3 can be obtained experimentally from arrival-time spectra measured by a double-shutter drift tube
Practical analysis of 3-D dynamic nonlinear magnetic field using time-periodic finite element method
A practical 3-D finite element method using edge elements for analyzing stationary nonlinear magnetic fields with eddy currents in electric apparatus, in which the flux interlinking the voltage winding is given, has been proposed. The method is applied to the analysis of magnetic fields in the Epstein frame </p
