Application of Numerical Modelling to Study the Efficiency of Roof Bolting Pattern in East 1 Main Gate of Tabas Coal Mine

    Get PDF
Tabas mechanized underground coal mine, locating in mid eastern of Iran, has been designed to produce 1.5 million tone coal annually. To start driving the first (East 1) panel\u27s main gate and tail gate, a 7+6 pattern of 2.4 m roof bolts was considered to be applied in both gates together with 4 and 3 side bolts at left and right ribs, respectively. In this paper, 2D numerical modelling using FLAC program is implemented to assess the efficiency of the roof bolting pattern in the east 1 main gate of the mine. The output of the modelling, in the form of displacements and strains in 7.2 m extensometers , movements in 5 m long dual telltales and axial loads in roof bolts, will be compared to the results of real monitoring instruments (7.2 m multipoint sonic extensometers, 5 m telltales and strain gauge bolts) installed in the gate

Magnetic Brane of Cubic Quasi-Topological Gravity in the Presence of Maxwell and Born-Infeld Electromagnetic Field

The main purpose of the present paper is analyzing magnetic brane solutions of cubic quasi-topological gravity in the presence of a linear electromagnetic Maxwell field and a nonlinear electromagnetic Born-Infeld field. We show that the mentioned magnetic solutions have no curvature singularity and also no horizons, but we observe that there is a conic geometry with a related deficit angle. We obtain the metric function and deficit angle and consider their behavior. We show that the attributes of our solution are dependent on cubic quasi-topological coefficient and the Gauss-Bonnet parameter.Comment: 15 pages and 8 figure

Hydro-Mechanical Numerical Analysis of Grouting Galleries in Azadi Rockfill Dam

    Get PDF
Azadi rockfill dam is located on Zemkan River in the west of Iran. There is a deep permeable zone in the rock mass of the foundation. So, the grouting galleries are considered in two different levels to sealing the foundation successfully. The lower gallery is more critical and is studied in this paper. The critical sections that are studied are at the deepest zone of left abutment, deepest zone of right abutment and the middle part of the dam axis. In this paper, the stability conditions of the mentioned sections are studied using different methods including empirical, analytical and numerical (FDM and DEM). The groundwater condition has been considered in DEM analysis and finally, the suitable support systems are suggested based on coupled hydromechanical numerical modeling

In vitro comparison of the effect of honey and clotrimazole against Candida albicans isolated from vagina

Background and aims: Candida albicans is the most common cause of Vulvovaginitis Candidiasis that is the most common vaginitis in human. It is estimated that more than 90 of these infections are caused by Candida albicans. Medical treatment for these infections is carried out with chemotherapeutic drugs such as azoles. The increasing resistance of C. albicans to the azoles as well as their probable side effects is public concerns. Therefore, research for new natural component having antifungal activity has been considered to be very important. This study was designed to compare the effect of honey and clotrimazole against Candida albicans isolated from vagina and standard strain. Methods: In this clinical trial study, Samples of vaginal discharges were prepared from 100 women with vulvovaginitis candidiasis. Isolation and complete identification of Candida species were performed andthe suspension of Candida albicans prepared for insemination. Different concentrations of honey and clotrimazol were prepared and 10 µl of yeast suspension was added and incubated. Then 10 µl of these medium was cultured. Finally, the number of yeasts was counted and MIC50 and MIC90 were determined in comparison with positive control. Results: Different concentrations of honey and clotrimazol inhibited the growth of Candida albicans. In MIC 50 the mean concentrations of honey and clotrimazol were 1.15±0.49 g/ml and 60.26± 6.24 µ g/ml respectively. In MIC 90 the mean concentrations of honey and clotrimazol were 3.10± 3.15 g/ml and 2.38±2.36µ g/ml respectively. This means that honey in 3.10 g/ml concentration had the same effect as clotrimazol with concentration of 2.38µ g/ml. Conclusion: Honey markedly inhibited the growth of Candida albicans and its effect was comparable to cloitrimazol

The Story of the Hands: On Earth and Community

The phenomenon that the universalization of the urban (and rural) form has disadvantaged many Iranian cities and villages of a sense of place, culture, and identity, is not a very recent one. Neither is it a novel understanding among architects and urbanists that the quality of locality in our living spaces is in need of improvement. The connection between people and their buildings has been forgotten and so in our settlements we have given in to the more accessible, mass-producible ways of building. In doing so, we have deprived ourselves of the intimacy that was once the blood in the veins of our alleys. In search of this lost meaning, I have read the words of visionaries, pondered their words, and have gotten my hands to experience. I learned that a true sense of meaning is given to a building when it tells a story, and to me, the story is that of the hands that raised its walls. What would give a neighbourhood a greater sense of community than for the neighbours to have helped build each other’s home? Participation of the community in the building process, however, faces many limitations. Our contemporary ways of building are too complex for the inexperienced and our customary materials are not local to most places. I have therefore explored building methods that would be simple enough for the community to easily involve themselves. And earth, this abundant and generous substance that lies beneath our feet, is the most accessible and affordable building material of all. I have worked on a set of strategies and policies through which my ideal building project can be accomplished, and have chosen my paternal village to be the site for it to happen in. In a village that is rapidly losing its vernacular architecture, I envision a building that could be planted as a seed by its people to grow out a new fabric of local, meaningful, and intimate architecture

INTELLIGENT ACCIDENT ALARM SYSTEM FOR VEHICLES NEAR THE ACCIDENT POINT

In current years, as for increment production of automobiles, we saw technology developments and smart systems in different parts of cars. One of the most important fields which has priority about car design is safety of aboard. As for the consensus, annually, more than 1,200,000 people lost their body in road accidents. In addition to it, in some cases, because of bad weather situations or special situation of the lane, which limit the view of the driver, we see chain accidents of cars, which cause severe deaths and injuries and property lost, and blocking the road in turn, cause another problem like delay in affairs pertinent to saving and rescue. In this paper, a method to make the car more intelligent in order to overcome the problem has been discussed. The main part of the system consists of intelligent equipment of transmitter and receiver in order to send accident news and its details to the 1km radius for the cars in the neighborhood. Similarly, these systems take advantage of Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the exact location of the accident and Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) in order to send news and accident location to the nearest emergency centre.

Structural parameters effect on UVR transmission of weft knitted fabrics

    Get PDF
Effects of knit structure, knit density, material type and presence of elastic yarn in weft knitted cotton/ polyester and polyester fabrics on UVR transmission have been investigated. According to the Taguchi method used for determining the combination of selected variables and their levels, 16 knitted samples have been produced on a single jersey circular knitting machine. After relaxation, samples have been kept in sunlight simulator and exposed to sun radiation. Finally, the amount of UV transmitted by every sample is measured by spectrophotometer. The results analyzed using Minitab software show that all the controllable variables have a significant effect on UV transmission. Also, according to the signal to noise analysis, the factor 'presence of elastic yarn' shows the strongest effect on UVR transmission. The second effective factor is found 'fabric structure' which is followed by the other two factors, viz. 'material type' and 'knit density' respectively
