More anomaly-free models of six-dimensional gauged supergravity
We construct a huge number of anomaly-free models of six-dimensional N =
(1,0) gauged supergravity. The gauge groups are products of U(1) and SU(2), and
every hyperino is charged under some of the gauge groups. It is also found that
the potential may have flat directions when the R-symmetry is diagonally gauged
together with another gauge group. In an appendix, we determine the
contribution to the global SU(2) anomaly from symplectic Majorana Weyl fermions
in six dimensions.Comment: 20 pages, v3: published versio

We show that when an N=2 SCFT flows to an N=1 SCFT via giving a mass to the
adjoint chiral superfield in a vector multiplet with marginal coupling, the
central charges a and c of the N=2 theory are related to those of the N=1
theory by a universal linear transformation. In the large N limit, this
relationship implies that the central charges obey a_IR/a_UV=c_IR/c_UV=27/32.
This gives a physical explanation to many examples of this number found in the
literature, and also suggests the existence of a flow between some theories not
previously thought to be connected.Comment: 3 pages. v2: references added, minor typos correcte
Metal-to-insulator transition in anatase TiO2 thin films induced by growth rate modulation
We demonstrate control of the carrier density of single phase anatase TiO2
thin films by nearly two orders of magnitude by modulating the growth kinetics
during pulsed laser deposition, under fixed thermodynamic conditions. The
resistivity and the intensity of the photoluminescence spectra of these TiO2
samples, both of which correlate with the number of oxygen vacancies, are shown
to depend strongly on the growth rate. A quantitative model is used to explain
the carrier density changes.Comment: 13 pages 3 figure
Four-Dimensional SCFTs from M5-Branes
We engineer a large new set of four-dimensional N=1 superconformal field
theories by wrapping M5-branes on complex curves. We present new supersymmetric
AdS_5 M-theory backgrounds which describe these fixed points at large N, and
then directly construct the dual four-dimensional CFTs for a certain subset of
these solutions. Additionally, we provide a direct check of the central charges
of these theories by using the M5-brane anomaly polynomial. This is a companion
paper which elaborates upon results reported in arXiv:1112:5487.Comment: 45 pages, 11 figure
Regular and irregular modulation of frequencies in limit cycle oscillator networks
Frequency modulation by perturbation is the essential trait that
differentiates limit cycle oscillators from phase oscillators. We studied
networks of identical limit cycle oscillators whose frequencies are modulated
sensitively by the change of their amplitudes, and demonstrated that the
frequencies sustainably take distributed values. We observed two complex
phenomena in the networks: stationarily distributed frequencies at a regular
interval, and continuous irregular modulation of frequencies. In the analysis
we reveal the mechanisms by which the frequencies are distributed, and show how
the sensitive modulation of frequencies produces these complex phenomena. We
also illustrate the topology of networks regulating the behaviors of the
systems.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Rigid Limit in N=2 Supergravity and Weak-Gravity Conjecture
We analyze the coupled N=2 supergravity and Yang-Mills system using
holomorphy, near the rigid limit where the former decouples from the latter. We
find that there appears generically a new mass scale around g M_{pl} where g is
the gauge coupling constant and M_{pl} is the Planck scale. This is in accord
with the weak-gravity conjecture proposed recently. We also study the scale
dependence of the gauge theory prepotential from its embedding into
supergravity.Comment: 17 pages, minor correction
A holographic computation of the central charges of d=4, N=2 SCFTs
We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to compute the central charges of the d=4,
N=2 superconformal field theories arising from N D3-branes at singularities in
F-theory. These include the conformal theories with E_n global symmetries. We
compute the central charges a and c related to the conformal anomaly, and also
the central charges k associated to the global symmetry in these theories. All
of these are related to the coefficients of Chern-Simons terms in the dual
string theory on AdS_5. Our computation is exact for all values of N, enabling
several tests of the dualities recently proposed by Argyres and Seiberg for the
E_6 and E_7 theories with N=1.Comment: 16 pages; v4: one reference adde
