A generalization of the Heine--Stieltjes theorem
We extend the Heine-Stieltjes Theorem to concern all (non-degenerate)
differential operators preserving the property of having only real zeros. This
solves a conjecture of B. Shapiro. The new methods developed are used to
describe intricate interlacing relations between the zeros of different pairs
of solutions. This extends recent results of Bourget, McMillen and Vargas for
the Heun equation and answers their question on how to generalize their results
to higher degrees. Many of the results are new even for the classical case.Comment: 12 pages, typos corrected and refined the interlacing theorem
The smallest eigenvalue of Hankel matrices
Let H_N=(s_{n+m}),n,m\le N denote the Hankel matrix of moments of a positive
measure with moments of any order. We study the large N behaviour of the
smallest eigenvalue lambda_N of H_N. It is proved that lambda_N has exponential
decay to zero for any measure with compact support. For general determinate
moment problems the decay to 0 of lambda_N can be arbitrarily slow or
arbitrarily fast. In the indeterminate case, where lambda_N is known to be
bounded below by a positive constant, we prove that the limit of the n'th
smallest eigenvalue of H_N for N tending to infinity tends rapidly to infinity
with n. The special case of the Stieltjes-Wigert polynomials is discussed
Quasi-analyticity and determinacy of the full moment problem from finite to infinite dimensions
This paper is aimed to show the essential role played by the theory of
quasi-analytic functions in the study of the determinacy of the moment problem
on finite and infinite-dimensional spaces. In particular, the quasi-analytic
criterion of self-adjointness of operators and their commutativity are crucial
to establish whether or not a measure is uniquely determined by its moments.
Our main goal is to point out that this is a common feature of the determinacy
question in both the finite and the infinite-dimensional moment problem, by
reviewing some of the most known determinacy results from this perspective. We
also collect some properties of independent interest concerning the

In this paper, we investigate the long time behaviour for a class of
low-regularity solutions of the Camassa-Holm equation given by the
superposition of infinitely many interacting traveling waves with corners at

Error bounds for the large-argument asymptotic expansions of the Hankel and Bessel functions
In this paper, we reconsider the large-argument asymptotic expansions of the
Hankel, Bessel and modified Bessel functions and their derivatives. New
integral representations for the remainder terms of these asymptotic expansions
are found and used to obtain sharp and realistic error bounds. We also give
re-expansions for these remainder terms and provide their error estimates. A
detailed discussion on the sharpness of our error bounds and their relation to
other results in the literature is given. The techniques used in this paper
should also generalize to asymptotic expansions which arise from an application
