Chronic Suicidality in a Physician: An Alliance Yet to Become Therapeutic

After three previous, short-term contacts with mental health professionals, she was admitted because of attempted suicide. From that moment forward, her desperation increased, resulting in repeated suicide attempts and multiple psychiatric admissions. GS has consistently considered a series of adverse life events as explaining her lack of control over her destructive behavior. Mental health professionals, however, worry about the track she seems to be on: after rejecting or unsuccessfully trying several forms of treatment, she seems to have become a chronic psychiatric patient without much perspective on herself
