Controlled switching between paramagnetic and diamagnetic Meissner effect in Pb/Co nanocomposites

A hybrid system which consists of a superconducting (SC) Pb film (100 nm thickness) containing ∼\sim1 vol% single domain ferromagnetic (FM) Co particles of mean-size ∼\sim4.5 nm reveal unusual magnetic properties: (i) a controlled switching between the usual diamagnetic and the unusual paramagnetic Meissner effect in field cooling as well as in zero-field cooling experiments (ii) amplification of the positive magnetization when the sample enters the SC state below Tc_c. These experimental findings can be explained by the formation of spontaneous vortices and the possible alignment of these vortices due to the foregoing alignment of the Co particle FM moments by an external magnetic field.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Fully gapped superconducting state in Au2Pb: a natural candidate for topological superconductor

We measured the ultra-low-temperature specific heat and thermal conductivity of Au2_2Pb single crystal, a possible three-dimensional Dirac semimetal with a superconducting transition temperature Tc≈T_c \approx 1.05 K. The electronic specific heat can be fitted by a two-band s-wave model, which gives the gap amplitudes Δ1\Delta_1(0)/kBTck_BT_c = 1.38 and Δ2\Delta_2(0)/kBTck_BT_c = 5.25. From the thermal conductivity measurements, a negligible residual linear term κ0/T\kappa_0/T in zero field and a slow field dependence of κ0/T\kappa_0/T at low field are obtained. These results suggest that Au2_2Pb has a fully gapped superconducting state in the bulk, which is a necessary condition for topological superconductor if Au2_2Pb is indeed one.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

Nearly Bi-Maximal Neutrino Mixing, Muon g-2 Anomaly and Lepton-Flavor-Violating Processes

    We interpret the newly observed muon g-2 anomaly in the framework of a leptonic Higgs doublet model with nearly degenerate neutrino masses and nearly bi-maximal neutrino mixing. Useful constraints are obtained on the rates of lepton-flavor-violating rare decays τ→μγ\tau \to \mu \gamma, μ→eγ\mu \to e \gamma and τ→eγ\tau \to e \gamma as well as the μ\mu-ee conversion ratio RμeR_{\mu e}. We find that Γ(μ→eγ)\Gamma (\mu \to e \gamma), Γ(τ→eγ)\Gamma (\tau \to e \gamma) and RμeR_{\mu e} depend crucially on possible non-zero but samll values of the neutrino mixing matrix element Ve3V_{e3}, and they are also sensitive to the Dirac-type CP-violating phase. In particular, we show that Γ(τ→μγ)/mτ5\Gamma (\tau \to \mu \gamma)/m^5_\tau, Γ(μ→eγ)/mμ5\Gamma (\mu \to e \gamma)/m^5_\mu and Γ(τ→eγ)/mτ5\Gamma (\tau \to e \gamma)/m^5_\tau are approximately in the ratio 1:2∣Ve3∣2:2∣Ve3∣21: 2|V_{e3}|^2: 2|V_{e3}|^2 if ∣Ve3∣|V_{e3}| is much larger than O(10−2){\cal O}(10^{-2}), and in the ratio 2(Δmatm2)2:(Δmsun2)2:(Δmsun2)22 (\Delta m^2_{\rm atm})^2: (\Delta m^2_{\rm sun})^2:(\Delta m^2_{\rm sun})^2 if ∣Ve3∣|V_{e3}| is much lower than O(10−3){\cal O}(10^{-3}), where Δmatm2\Delta m^2_{\rm atm} and Δmsun2\Delta m^2_{\rm sun} are the corresponding mass-squared differences of atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations.Comment: LaTex 6 pages (2 PS figures). Can the Lepton Flavor Mixing Matrix Be Symmetric?

    Get PDF
Current neutrino oscillation data indicate that the 3x3 lepton flavor mixing matrix V is likely to be symmetric about its V_{e3}-V_{\mu 2}-V_{\tau 1} axis. This off-diagonal symmetry corresponds to three pairs of {\it congruent} unitarity triangles in the complex plane. Terrestrial matter effects can substantially modify the genuine CP-violating parameter and off-diagonal asymmetries of V in realistic long-baseline experiments of neutrino oscillations.Comment: RexTex 14 pages (4 PS figures). More Straightforward Extraction of the Fundamental Lepton Mixing Parameters from Long-Baseline Neutrino Oscillations

We point out the simple reversibility between the fundamental neutrino mixing parameters in vacuum and their effective counterparts in matter. The former can therefore be expressed in terms of the latter, allowing more straightforward extraction of the genuine lepton mixing quantities from a variety of long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. In addition to the parametrization-independent results, we present the formulas based on the standard parametrization of the lepton flavor mixing matrix and give a typical numerical illustration.Comment: RevTex 10 pages. A_4 Symmetry and Lepton Masses and Mixing

Stimulated by Ma's idea which explains the tribimaximal neutrino mixing by assuming an A_4 flavor symmetry, a lepton mass matrix model is investigated. A Frogatt-Nielsen type model is assumed, and the flavor structures of the masses and mixing are caused by the VEVs of SU(2)_L-singlet scalars \phi_i^u and \phi_i^d (i=1,2,3), which are assigned to {\bf 3} and ({\bf 1}, {\bf 1}',{\bf 1}'') of A_4, respectively.Comment: 13 pages including 1 table, errors in Sec.7 correcte

Magnetization reversal in Kagome artificial spin ice studied by first-order reversal curves

    Get PDF
Magnetization reversal of interconnected Kagome artificial spin ice was studied by the first-order reversal curve (FORC) technique based on the magneto-optical Kerr effect and magnetoresistance measurements. The magnetization reversal exhibits a distinct six-fold symmetry with the external field orientation. When the field is parallel to one of the nano-bar branches, the domain nucleation/propagation and annihilation processes sensitively depend on the field cycling history and the maximum field applied. When the field is nearly perpendicular to one of the branches, the FORC measurement reveals the magnetic interaction between the Dirac strings and orthogonal branches during the magnetization reversal process. Our results demonstrate that the FORC approach provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the magnetic interaction in the magnetization reversal processes of spin-frustrated systems
